Food, one of life’s greatest pleasures! Food makes people feel better when they’re down; it fills them up when they are hungry. It is a great way to hang out with friends, family and to enjoy life. Not only is it a pleasure but it is a necessity to all mankind. Making a proper Food Guide that people will read, trust, and at the same time find interesting involves a lot of dedication, commitment and a passion for food. There are many steps to take when making a Food Guide, for example, getting to know all the restaurants that are being reviewed so that one can make a fair and impartial assessment. Secondly it is important to obtain opinions from others, so that more than one voice is heard, and lastly, one must obtain plenty of information, such as prices, ambiance, and service, from the restaurants being reviewed. A food guide is a small book, almost the size of a travel guide. It consists of a list of menus and names of different restaurants, as well as location, pricing, phone numbers and recommendations. A food guide is a book that helps people find places to eat, and prepare food. It can range from restaurants to homemade cooking, to nutritional food that is healthy. It’s also a list of reviews for various restaurants that compare and review meals and places. When deciding to make a food guide, it’s important to understand that a lot of work is ahead. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans,2010 contains recommendations for healthy food choices and physical activity for the nation. This report is updated and issued every 5 years by the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The information that is presented is fostered by the 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee which consists of scientific experts. The goal of the document is to increase knowledge and to put what is learned into action by facilitating heathy eating as well as regular physical activity, with its latter purpose of improving the health of all Americans ages two years and older.
MyPlate from the 2010 dietary guidelines for Americans and the Healthy Eating Plate from the Harvard School of Public Health have many similarities and some differences. They both have strengths and weaknesses.

For the Rhetoric in Response project, I chose to create a restaurant menu for an old western styled diner. I chose to create a restaurant menu to attract people to buy food and also because I prefer visualization over writings. In a restaurant, the menu is an important aspect for advertising the food that is being sold. The pictures and the design of the menu usually determines what the customer will purchase. Whenever I go to a restaurant that I have never been to, I look at the menu to determine what I would like to eat. The professionalism of the menu allows the audience (the customers) to determine the credibility of the menu. With this in mind, I started to look for a design, descriptions, and pictures that will fit together to create a credible, appealing restaurant menu.
I believe the two most important Dietary guidelines are Helping Americans Make Healthy Choices, and increasing our consumption of vegetables, fruits, and calcium, discussed in Chapter 4. If we continue to help Americans make healthy choices and make those choices visible, we might be able to get more people physically active. Increasing consumptions of vegetables, fruits, and calcium will reduce your risk of many chronic diseases, stroke, cancer, and diabetes. Calcium, fruits, and vegetables make your body stronger and maintain your body, without them your body becomes weak.

A cookbook is often seen as nothing more than a collection of recipes. If this was true, then why should archives like the Lupton collection at the University of Alabama even exist? The truth is cookbooks are more than the recipes they hold. Like any form of writing, a cookbook has an agenda and can persuade its audience of certain ideas. A cookbook can perpetuate myths or it can contribute to history.
