I will be using Porter’s Value Chain Analysis to evaluate how value is created in e-business and I will then suggest significant improvements which I feel can lead to increased consumer use of online purchasing. There are many differences between the online retail environment of clothing and offline retail environment clothing. The main differences between the two can be …show more content…
Porter’s Value Chain identifies key activities which most businesses have in common. The following is a diagram representing Porter’s ideas.-http://www.themanager.org/models/valuechain.htm The first activity Porter addresses is “Inbound Logistics” which involves how the raw materials are received, stored and distributed to manufacturing. In the case of an online clothing business this would involve gathering all the materials (silk, satin, denim, cotton, nylon etc) necessary to meet the demands of the thousands of online shoppers, to make each item of clothing and ensuring there is sufficient storage space in the warehouse for them to be stored in the best way possible, to avoid any deterioration with regards to the quality of the materials. Businesses should ensure they have an appropriate size of a warehouse also. It should not be too big as this would see the business lose potential profit as they wouldn’t be making efficient use of their full capacity. The materials are then transported to the manufacturing station next. The second step Porter refers to is “Operations” which entails all the assembling, machining and testing needed
On the other hand, a online retail store in comparison to a retail store provide new values to their marketing system. Businesses like Scorptec offer values to their customers in different methods. The most simplistic value they offer is reduced prices of their products attracting customers. The reasoning behind reduced costs of goods is because the handling cost have reached minimal amounts in parallel to retail stores. Online retailers require only a storage warehouse to contain their products and dispatch them when they are required. This is managed by inventory control to ensure that products are available for sale when needed without overstocking on the product. The prime function of managing an online retail is that the business doesn’t require shipping products to independent intermediaries. This makes time and concentration more available on creating an improved product without the need to consistently dispatch products to outlets but simply
Garments are one the crucial needs of all humanity, and design dress are dependably on request all through the seasons. At an early stage when beginning a discount attire business, one ought to remember some vital particulars before beginning an online discount apparel exchange.
According to the theory of Jim Riley, Value chain analysis describes the activities that take place in a business and relates them to an analysis of the competitive strength of the business. Influential work by Michael Porter suggested that the activities of a business couold be grouped under two headings: Primary and Support activities.
According to Turban and King (2003), internet technology renders retailers an additional channel for branding, transactions and customer relationship management, the adaptation of which may drive down retailers’ transaction costs, and ensuring faster and higher quality of customer interactions, resulting in enlarging the existing markets and consumer base. M&S realizes this and have tried to sell clothing via high street stores as well as via internet though they have experienced cost cutting, rationalisation and management changes in order to revive their business in recent years. Internet technology might enable sustainable competitive advantage, but problems remain on how to physically organize their online retail operations.
To begin with, online shopping has become the new thing. With thousands of apps at ones fingertips, one can shop anywhere, and at any time. According to the article, analysts say that online shopping is one of the reasons for the drastic decline in sales. Piper Jaffray, conducted a survey of teenagers, and this survey showed that more than three-fourths of teenagers shopped online. Not only can you find better prices while shopping online, but you can get it conveniently and fast as Mr. Matthew McClintock pointed out. However, online shopping is not the only culprit to the decreasing profits for the suffering clothing companies, for unemployment rates factor in there as well.
Now’s a day, most of the successful retailers are allows both the physical shopper to shop in store and the internet shopper to shop online. Physical shopper will have a change to see the items in person and try in on to make sure they fit on them. The internet shopper will benefit for shopping online in anytime and anywhere. They usually buy items online and collect in
Finally as aforementioned, there is a lot of emphasis on maintaining the same personality online as in store. Specifically with color schemes and layouts, they must match the brick and mortar store. If the layout of the physical store has a shirting department organized by fit then the customer should be able to sort and search online based on fit not something else, like style. Retail should not be focused on the allocation of sales between different channels instead focusing on the fusion of the two with brand identity tools. This then encourages consumers to participate in different channels sequentially and simultaneously along the path to a single purchase (Holdon).
This is one of the clues to gain competitive advantage in any industry (Porter, 1998). According to this, any change in technology that can have an impact in the way things are done, can be a significant improvement. This will lead to better products and services (CIPD, 2010). Abercrombie and Fitch has taken advantage of the internet to offer different services to its customers. All catalogues can be found there, and all the locations of their stores as well. For its staff, recently was created a webpage for them to
E-commerce is the online transaction of goods and services, which has completely revolutionized business and the way in which businesses can operate. It’s now easier for customers to compare prices/products with a little time spent browsing the Internet opposed to dragging themselves to the stores. This means that e-commerce is having an impact on what and how much businesses sell, therefore influencing the profits the business gets. In this essay I will consider whether an e-commerce strategy is the best way for a business to increase their profits, or whether e-commerce is not the best strategy to do this. I will be arguing that
Online shopping is a modern concept which has grown in popularity with the rapid global growth in e-commerce. Apparently, many customers are attracted to this new concept of shopping because of the various benefits and offers of the internet. Online shoppers can enjoy the opportunity to shop at any time whenever convenient using an electronic device without the pressure of going to the traditional brick-and-mortar stores. It also allows browsing through seemingly never-ending options for merchandise or products not available in local stores and can let customers evaluate the different online stores to make comparison between items and products, their brands and prices which is difficult and time-consuming

This theory assumes that the organisation is more than a random compilation of machinery, people and money. It also proposes that if these things are arranged into systems and systematic activates, the organisation will be able to produce a product or provide a service that customers are willing to pay a price.
