During his time as president, Bill Clinton helped pass a variety of legislation that greatly impacted the country in several ways including creating a budget surplus and signing an act that encouraged much stricter sentencing for criminals. Two pieces of legislation that highlight positive and negative aspects of Clintons presidency are the 1993 Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act and the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. The former, the first budget passed by the president, increased taxes for high earners and created “an earned income tax credit for incomes under $30,000”(UC Berkeley). This helped to create budget surpluses for much of the 1990’s. The latter, one of the more controversial bills passed by Clinton, contained many provisions that served as harsh punishment for the crimes rather than rehabilitation (Lussenhop). This act impacted the already high incarceration rate and did not address at-risk communities where economic resources were badly needed. Both of these acts impacted the public in different ways, the budget aided low income families with its income tax credit while the violent crime act added to the budding mass incarceration problem in the United States and failed to address the problems in low income communities(Lussenhop). As president, Bill Clinton served as a good representative who supported the virtue of fair-mindedness. Even though some of his actions were not in accordance with the virtue, such as the Violent Crime Control
Despite his scandals of an affair with an intern working in the White House, he not only significantly advanced the States economically but also provides health coverage for millions of children throughout the country by enacting a serial of bills. Eventually, he is admitted by American public.

Statistical elaboration has shown that decreasing the prison population does not affect the well being of the community. Diminishing overcrowding within our jails should be of great importance for state administrations. Our President Barack Obama signed the Fair Sentencing Act into effect in 2010. The method must be two-fold: first, understand how the Fair Sentencing Act works, and second, put a greater emphasis on the recommendations given in reducing the disparity in sentencing.
The Arab- Israeli Conflict was and still is a big issue. Many people have been involved in this conflict in the past. When BIll Clinton was president he had a semi big role in the Arab-Israeli Conflict.
Republican candidate, George H.W. Bush, had lost the 1992 presidential election to a young Democrat from Arkansas, Bill Clinton. Clinton was somewhat of a dark horse candidate. He survived a giant sex scandal during his election, however, a third party run by Ross Perot split the vote and in 1993, Clinton was inaugurated. Clinton's foreign policy agenda, included the Oslo Accords between Israel and the PLO and NATO action in the Balkans. Successes and failures of the Clinton presidency included the failed attempt at health care reform, the very horrible attempt on LGBT issues, mixed feelings on the welfare reform and the more uplifting issues such as the huge improvements made in the economy. Also, computers were blowing up with the public
From the war on drugs, to the prison system; the president along with congressmen and woman
President William “Bill” Clinton was the United States 42nd president. Bill Clinton was born in Arkansas on August 19th 1946. In 1976 he was elected to become the Attorney General of Arkansas. Two years later he became governor, becoming the youngest governor. Clinton ran for president in 1992 with running mate Al Gore. His presidency ran from 1993 to 2001.
In the book, The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander talked about the War on Drugs and how it led to mass incarceration. It also mentions how the largest increase in prisons was during Bill Clinton 's presidency. “The Clinton Administration 's ‘tough on crime’ policies resulted in the largest increases in federal and state prison inmates of any president in American history.” (Alexander, p. 56) The punishment for the third offense was life in prison.
Comparing the Foreign Policy of Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton Towards North Korea
When crack cocaine hit the streets in 1985, the media made an effort to sensationalize the emergence of this new drug in inner-city neighborhoods. This media sensationalism effectively made the construction of prisons the nation’s main housing program for the urban poor. By the year 2000, the Clinton Administration’s ‘tough on crime’ policies resulted in the largest increases in federal and state prison inmates of any president in American
Around twenty years ago there are multiple things that have occurred at this time. Within the time period a young happy couple named Annie Fernandez and Brian Anthony got married and decided to settle down in an apartment and tried really hard to start a family by having a child. Finally Annie became pregnant with Brian’s baby. A historic event happens in America that Bill Clinton is elected to be the President of the United States of America. Also during winter there was a huge snowstorm that had occurred that impacted the United States greatly from the huge amounts of snow. In a way this snowstorm paralyzed the US by making it difficult for people to move around to get to the places needed to go and things that have to be done. United Nations had come up with a treaty that bans nuclear testing in order to prevent countries from destroying one another through nuclear
The late U.S. Supreme Court Justice and Civil Rights Activist, Thurgood Marshall, once said that the ‘intent is evident in the results’ to mean ‘when we intend to do good, we do, [and] when we intend to do harm, it happens… our intent always comes through’. Former President Bill Clinton said that he didn’t intend to cause an increase in prison expansion, yet, under his administration ‘the incarcerated population rose from 1.3 million to more than 2 million’ (Kilgore 66). In 8 years, the Clinton administration managed to increase ‘federal, state, and local corrections expenditures…[to] $57 billion a year’ (Kilgore 32). His administration also implemented the Omnibus Crime Bill and the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 which ‘cut the rights and opportunities for people with felony convictions’ (Kilgore 32) and ended the welfare assistance that once existed. None of these actions actually brought about the safety of U.S. citizens, because at the time of Bill Clinton’s presidency, crime rates were decreasing. Yet, despite this downward trend in prison population rates the Clinton administration ‘enacted notoriously harsh narcotics penalties in the … three-strikes legislation in the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, and more capital crimes with fewer appeals in the Federal Death Penalty Act of 1994 and the
Senator Kennedy sentencing reform legislation would finally become law eight years later after its introduce in 1976. The 1980s represented an era of Congress displaying tough on crime stance in response to concerns of widespread drug use and increase crime rate. President Ronald Reagan in his 1984 reelection bid focused his campaign on promising to “get tough” on crime and deterring drugs nationally by means of punishment (Stith & Koh, 1993). By announcing a sweeping revision of criminal justice policy, Reagan declared Congress to pass the crime control legislation. The Senate passed the crime bill with a vote 91-1 in February 1984 (Stith & Koh, 1993). However, the House, primarily the Democrats stalled on passing the act, which gave Reagan
He was also one of the few presidents to be impeached and removed from office. I think you already know my impression about Clinton, since I have been talking about him all year. In 1990 the immigration act passed increased the total immigration cap. It also granted temporary amnesty to illegal immigrants so they could have time to get properly documented. The number of visas available for immigrants also increased throughout the early 1990s.
Welfare was accepted as a success and continued for almost sixty years. In the 1990’s Americans began to question the effectiveness of the government welfare system. In 1992, President Bill Clinton took office. One of his main problems to address while in office was the corrupted welfare system. After four years of brainstorming and planning, the United States Government decided upon how to eliminate the corrupted members of society from collecting government welfare.
