Also another factor that contributes to sex trafficking being profitable is supply and demand. Traffickers are supplying more and more victims which are an important element, but the demand is what has risen which makes this industry what it has become today. More people are requesting sex that is the bottom line. In the article, “Deconstructing Demand: The Driving Force of Sex Trafficking” Swanee Hunt says, “Human sex trafficking generates a profit of 32 billion every year globally and some reports states traffickers can make up to 32,000 a week” (227). It’s no wonder how human sex trafficking has become such a lucrative business because of all the money that is brought in. Traffickers have used the internet as the main source to traffic,
27 million people all over the world are currently being forced into human trafficking or modern day slavery, 161 countries including the US will be affected by human trafficking. 1 million children will be exploited by the commercial sex trade each year. Sex trafficking began in the 1700s in the United States. It hasn’t been stopped because it continues to increase over the years. Even though the law enforcement and people around the world could be strong enough to stop human trafficking, I believe this situation needs to be more focused on and stopped as soon as possible. Because Human Trafficking is increasing rapidly and Oklahoma is a cross-way for sex trafficking due to the interstates such as I-35, I-40 and I-44.
There have been enormous questions on the effects that globalization has had on sex trafficking. Some have argued that globalization is characterized with the global efforts, funding and regional legislation that undermine the spread of the sex trading. However, the increased liberalization and other factors such as the presence of the internet have heavily favored sex trade globally and especially in the United States of America (U.S.A). The United States has been a destination for the many immigrants from third world countries and others that have been encroached with wars and terrorist activities. According to the National Human Trafficking (2017), 4460 cases of the trafficking were recorded in the U.S.A of which 3186 cases reported were linked to sex trafficking. In 2016, the reported human trafficking cases tremendously increased in 7621, and the sex trafficking cases reported also increased to 5593. The reported sex trafficking cases were 4183, 3593, 3380, 2382 in 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012 respectively (National Human Trafficking, 2017, 1). From the cases recorded by the National Human Trafficking Hotline, it is evident that globalization has created a favorable environment for the sex and the human trafficking. The economic, political and legal environment created by the globalization favors the spread of sex trade in the United States of America.
Sex Trafficking is a global phenomenon defined most often as the trade in women and children using force, fraud or coercion to cause a commercial sex act. Prostitution, pornography and sexual performance that is committed in exchange for money, drugs, shelter, food or clothes is defined as a commercial sex act. Sex Trafficking has a firm grip as a multi-million dollar production, recently skyrocketing with the modern era of technology that allows the business to become even more elusive and harder to track. We’ve all heard of the terminology, but how many of us actually know what sex trafficking entails? January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention
Imagine being taken from the comfort of your house and family. Then envision that you are forced to either inject or ingest as drugs to give sexual pleasure to one person while the other reaps financial benefits. You are experiencing such atrocity at the same moment in which your loved ones are mourn your loss. Eventually, you are unrecognizable and affected by traumatizing experiences. The effects that you frequently feel are numb and now you are suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. This is the reality that many endure on daily basis. It is caused by the constant practice of human trafficking.
How is it that equality is constant, but unreachable? Why is it that safety is comfort, but it’s constantly changing? Throughout all walks of life, there still resides the issue of human trafficking. Sex trafficking doesn’t just impact the victim; it is an issue that deprives everyone effected of their humanity. Beyond their rights being taken away, victims still remain dubious and vulnerable. Insecurities suddenly become evidence against victims in their own court cases; even after finding a way to liberate themselves, they are still blamed. Male or female, adult or child, is it really all their fault for falling into the arms of deceitful trafficking rings?
Imagine waking up in complete oblivion, drenched in your own sweat, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, in an unknown location. The fear of what’s to come next is trapped in your head. What? How? Who? Is all you ask yourself. You become a lost soul who 's left without any hope for a better tomorrow. No one ever believes it can happen to them , and it’s the last thing on anyone’s mind. “Human And Sex Trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes in the world” ( stop the traffik. N.p., n.d. Web. 01 May 2016). It 's such huge crime , yet the authorities can’t get it under control. These horrific events take place all over the world and there 's only a few countries trying to due away with it. The public knowledge on this subject is extremely low, some people believe it only happens in the movies they watch, while others don’t even know it exist. The first step to getting rid of trafficking should be to inform everyone on this serious matters that 's taking place daily. The knowledge will benefit everyone because it ' will inform people on the illegal crimes that 's taken place and it will allow people to recognize it and protect themselves from it. Once it 's recognized people will be able to prevent these events from taking place.
Sex trafficking has been a major profession for centuries. Over time the victims involved in the crimes have been pinpointed out by the traffickers. People worldwide are reaching out and helping those involved in the crime. In addition, traffickers are improving their ways to make their work more efficient. Sex trafficking is a worldwide problem that is now being addressed, and we are seeing the major impact its had on adults and children.
Force, fraud, or coercion to commit a commercial sex act with either an adult or causing a minor to commit the commercial sex act is called sex trafficking (shared hope). In other words, it is another name for sex slavery. In a journal article I read called “The Frequency of Burns Among the Victims of Sex Trafficking in Some Lower-Middle-Income Countries” by Mohsen Rezaeian, he wrote, “human trafficking can be considered as the mediator of modern slavery. Evidence suggests that human trafficking is going to surpass other varieties of trafficking including arms and drugs. It has been estimated that annually sex trafficking of young females is worth $32 billion. This explains why 49% and 21% of detected modern day slave victims are women and girls, respectively.” (Science Direct) When I think about slavery, I think about the horrific acts of slavery in the 1800’s, where African Americans were treated as the scum between our toes. Sex slavery, or sex trafficking, to me, is treating those victims the same as the African Americans were treated. Victims are lured into the business with numerous promises, all they have to do it commit the horrendous act. Being involved in prostitution, sexual performance, or pornography for something like money, food, clothes, drugs, or shelter is committing a commercial sex act.
The impact of human trafficking on its victims can be very great or very minor. For example, a victim could be trafficked for three months and in that time frame develop a drug addiction. When she is freed from being trafficked, she may have no psychological issues, only a drug issue. She may not need all of the services another victim may need. Another victim could have been trafficked since she was a prepubescent child and at 25 years old, she is scarred for life and there may not be enough treatment in the world to make her feel "normal." A third victim could need multiple types of treatment which can include psychological treatment, substance use treatment and physical treatment because she was infected with multiple STD's and was forced
Sex trafficking, the act of an adult committing a commercial sex act with a minor, is a worldwide crisis, that around 4.5 million people have been forced into (Elrod and “What is Sex Trafficking?”). The trauma induced by traffickers can alter the psychological state of an individual forced into the business. Preventative measures being taken by the government to decrease the growing industry have proven to be effective, although more needs to be done. Human trafficking affects society, abductors, and victims, therefore the government is actively attempting to extinguish the issue with legislation.
We often hear the saying “Love the women in your life.” After all, they are the ones who birthed us, nurtured us, allow us to have children of our own to care for, and etc. However, they are also the main target for the human trafficking industry of sexual exploitation. Human sex trafficking can date back to thousands of years ago, but the most known period of human trafficking were portrayed during African slave trade (Oster). That being said, alongside the forced labor included among enslavement, the second most popular form of human trafficking is sexual exploitation, mainly among women and children (Deshpande and Nour). As stated above, figure 1 proves that sexual exploitation remains to be one
The effect human trafficking has on world today. Human trafficking is victims have been the most disrespect and terrified people in the world. They are sold to slavery either for sex or labor services. The sad part about human trafficking happens right under our noises. I think in some cases of the Unite States some of larger companies that are outsourcing human trafficking in order to keep their business standards by keeping customers happy. Most underage girls from ages 12-18 are used for human trafficking. Some of those girls are runways, or drug addictive and kidnapping from their parent. Human trafficking is the most profitable slavery around the world. Most of majority of human trafficking victims are very vulnerable such as, selling of small children, young underage women and sometimes elderly adults. I really think if someone who condemns this kind of brutal act toward anyone should be sent straight to electric chamber to die. Human trafficking victims has been caught and sold to higher bid for sex or slavery. Human trafficking most target the poor, and disaster area was people lives.in June of 2014, there a new law called JCMST in which it were stated bring down the danger of human trafficking of any kind .also, human trafficking has become a way for child mobilization , and teenage marriage is forced through
‘The human and social consequences of trafficking are compelling. From physical abuse and torture of victims to the psychological and emotional trauma… the impact on individuals and society is clearly destructive and unacceptable’ (UN.GIFT, 2008). This suggests that controlling human trafficking and protecting victims who have experienced traumatic events that are associated with being trafficked should be the priority for government officials nationwide. This however has only recently become the case for some select countries around the world. Estimating the global scope of human trafficking is extremely difficult due to factors which will be discussed throughout this assignment however trafficking does affect most countries around the world. It is estimated that between 600,000 and 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders each year with 50% of these individuals being children (Stop the Traffik, 2014). Additionally the revenue gained from human trafficking annually is only exceeded by drug trafficking and it is classified as one of the most lucrative forms of international crime in modernity (Egan, 2008). These statistics portray that fighting human trafficking needs to be a priority for all countries globally. In order to adequately control trafficking and provide support for victims it may be essential to look at personal troubles experienced by both traffickers and victims in order to tackle the larger public issue of trafficking itself. This relates to
Many people argue that slavery ended with the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment; however, slavery is still prevalent in America, as well as all over the world, in the form of human trafficking. With about twenty to thirty million slaves globally, society is facing a growing problem that is often overlooked. Human trafficking greatly affects the mental and physical states of its victims, hinders the progression of gender equality for women, and requires substantial efforts to be made in the future in order to end the suffering of those affected.
Wanting to start her own sewing business to support her family, Molina was then offered a job in the United States if she left her family to come over. She was forced into working 18 hour days. The other workers were allowed to leave after their shifts. Molina was told not to talk to anyone. She said she was always hungry. Her trafficker used manipulation to keep her as his victim. The U.S State Department says there are 600,000 to 800,000 victims who are trafficked over international borders per year. Human trafficking is a huge problem worldwide. It happens everywhere. Most people don’t realize how easily it happens, and how common it actually is. Human trafficking is a growing problem all over the world, it is a form of modern day slavery, victims are getting targeted, and the victims are affected tremendously.
