Chapters eight, nine, ten, and eleven of Media in Society: A Brief Introduction delve into the concepts of pop culture, representations in narratives, the evolution of the internet, and media globalization. First of all, chapter eight informs the reader about how the media contributes to influencing culture in today’s generation with entertainment and art. Chapter nine then discusses the various representations and stereotypes in narratives and how they influence the media. Then, chapter ten goes into detail on the power and impact of the internet and technology around the world today. The final chapter then deliberates on the topic of media globalization and describes how media in America has made a global impact.
Beginning with chapter eight, this particular chapter goes into detail about how art and entertainment are two very distinct aspects of media in our society. For one thing, cultural bifurcation is "the separation of culture into two distinct categories." (Campbell, Jensen, Gomery, Fabos & Frechette, 2014, p.199). In other words, society must have an idea about entertainment and art so that they are able to understand how they both contribute to our society and pop culture.
