This means that US ISPs will soon no longer need consent from users to share browsing history with marketers and other third parties. What is the Dark Web? The Dark web is a part of the commercial internet that is not accessible thru regular internet browser software (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox). What possible applications can a secure, encrypted and untraceable network have? As Danny Bradbury states in his article " The dark web is a secretive, anonymous place where shadowy users access hidden services. It can be used for good or bad". A pretty good example of how this type of technology could be used in a perverse or wrongful way, are the many black market websites that are available throughout the environment. This type of markets emerged around the year 2003 and by 2013 it was already generating sales up to 180 million dollars per year, with over 35 vendors exceeding over 1 million dollars of sales on illegal products. One of the most popular market names was Silk Road, during the year of 2012 this market averaged weekly sales of approximately 475 thousand dollars. This site provided sales for many illegal items and services, that include but were not limited to stolen accounts for sale, money-laundering services, malware trade, passports and citizenships for sale, leaked details: government, law enforcement, and celebrities, and assassination services. The first Silk Road site was taken down in Oct 2013 by the FBI, and its creator (Ross William Ulbricht) placed in jail, but not before he made a fortune.
