On January 1, 1983, Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf invented the Internet and just a few years later in 1990 Tim Berners-Lee changed the world forever by inventing the beautiful and ever useful World Wide Web. Most would use the terms ‘internet’ and ‘World Wide Web’ interchangeably, however they are not the same at all. The Internet is an indescribably large network of networks while the World Wide Web is a refined way of gaining access to information on the internet. A really easy way to think about it is that the internet is connecting computers to other computers; whereas, the web is connecting people with one another. It is truly amazing how useful this invention is in todays world. It is arguably one of the most used inventions of the twenty first century, maybe ever. It is definitely not arguable however that the internet and the World Wide Web are essential to modern daily life in the developed world. In most first world countries, the internet is used in every classroom, in every business office, and in every store front. So much so that stores now use “Free Wi-Fi” as a marketing technique to get customers to come to their store rather than another. The internet is a wonderful facilitator of globalization; however, like many things in the world, the internet needs to be better regulated by international powers. The international community needs to realize that there is a very serious problem considering the lack of governance of the internet. There are so many good things
