Introduction
In the year 1953, the television was introduced to the Philippines. The primary broadcasting network then was ABS-CBN (which was formerly known as Bolinao), pioneering color television service, programs and films. Programs being telecast at the time were mostly borrowed films from the foreign embassies, imported cowboy movies and actual coverage of a variety of events (Anastacio, 2000).
The internet on the other hand was brought to the Philippines in March 1994 by the Philippine Network

At this point, cable companies must evolve to home media portals, broadcasters and publishers must race toward new media formats. Marketers are now being coerced to experiment and make advertising more compelling or else risk being ignored (IBM). One significant finding that their study was able to come up with was that in lieu of entertainment, there has been an immense preferential shift from television viewing to internet surfing, with the users practically using both media with the same purpose. Hence, similar studies were conducted in order to prove this kind of development. Thus, the research question will weigh which form of media is more preferred by the youth as their source of entertainment. It will highlight the nature of both media – the television as the key provider of basic forms of entertainment and the internet as a more dynamic and digital system that allow for convergence in technology: broadcasting, cable, telecommunication and computer services, and the fusion of entertainment sources (Tuazon, 2002).
Theoretical Conceptual Framework
To undertake the exploration of the competition between the television and the internet, this paper will use Dimmick and Rothenbuhler’s (1994) Theory of the Niche to explain how media technologies interact in the multi-dimensional resource
In 20th century, every human being on the earth is familiar with television, internet and other form of media. We can see the effect of these forms of the electronic media in our daily life.
Technology is advancing everyday. And everyday the old technology is getting less popular, especially with kids.In the article, "Move Over Cable TV, Kids are more Interested on What's on the Small Screen," the author states thatmany kids are chosing their small hand held divices in sted of cable tv.
With the advent of information technology, the ways different aspects of life work and operate have changed a great deal. Media has always had a great influence in molding the culture of a society. There was a point of time when television and radio were invented and when computer was invented and there was little connection between the two. Time then travelled fast then through the age of cassettes, records, VCDs, DVDs, flash drive and then the internet. Media also started to go satellite on a massive scale and there came a point of time when media and digital communication systems became closely integrated with one another, opening the dimensions to digital media.
The television industry is one of the most rapidly changing media industries to date. Its evolution from black and white, to colour, to digital and now three-dimensional viewing, there is nothing slow about its development. Focusing particularly on commercial free-to-air (FTA) television, the FTA television industry plays a critical role in the Australian ecosystem. Due to its free delivery, it generates $3.2 billion per annum in economic and advertising surplus (Venture Consulting, 2015). This is why the value of commercial FTA television to the Australian public remains high whereby FTA television is watched by more than 14 million Australians daily (Free TV Australia, 2014). However, television nowadays is much more than a medium of entertainment and information. It is also used as a method for engaging in social interaction (Morely, 1986, p. 22), and this digital divide of interaction is what harms the television industry. The launch of streaming services not only confronts the traditional ‘linear’ TV format by allowing users to select what they want to watch and when they want it, it also broadens the offering to almost any device (Spooner, 2015). The research methods in the television industry despite its strength as a medium, must however, walk hand in hand with the fast progression of new technology and challenge the rise of digital omnivores.
First, the author claims that since T.V. isn't as popular as it used to be, kids are going on other devices and watching things on Netflix and Youtube. The author states that "They use phones and tablets to watch the video-streaming apps of their liking." There are standouts like Instagram, Youtube, and Netflix. These distractions lure in kids, tweens, and teens onto small screens on mobile devices. There is so many distractions like mobile devices that T.V.´s don´t even seem to matter anymore.
One example why today’s youth is being hooked on media is the TV channel, Adult Swim, which is the nightly block for the channel that most kids watch during the day, Cartoon Network. I can say, from personal experience, that Adult Swim is the first broadcaster to truly embrace the digital platform of the internet. When we look back on some of our most cherished forms of media content from our childhood, we don't just think about the music or the laughs or the rest of the emotions that they evoked. We cherish these films, TV shows, and bands because of their ability to capture the spirit of our youth. Not everyone looks back on The Beatles and wonders what the 60’s were like or you don’t look over The Breakfast Club without constantly thinking
Can you ever find some things for entertainment, information and communication all at once other than television ?. The answer more likely is no. As the matter of fact, researcher show that ninety nine percentage of household that possesses at least one television. Additionally the average of youth and adult spend time watch television is more than one thousand hour per year. These number is higher than everyone expect. With those statistic show above, its prove that television is one of the most important material to human life in both sociology and psychology. Since the television was developed, human life was changed enormously. In brief, without television, human life would take a slow process in development
With modern devices, it seems like the younger generations are watching T.V less and less. Instead, they are leaning more towards new technology. In the article "Move Over Cable TV, Kids are more Interested in What's on Small Screen," by Jennifer Van Groove, the author claims that the minority prefers using streaming apps on handheld devices rather than watching shows or movies on television. First, watching shows on streaming apps is more convenient than watching T.V. Before children watch television, they have to find something to watch and that can be time consuming. The younger generations enjoy watching shows on handheld devices because there is more options than on T.V and the choices of things to watch are greater. It seems to children,
It comes to know surprise that kids in our current generation have relied heavily on technology for their entertainment, which means that there must be over million shows, video games, television, videos, and so forth, for the public to choose from. With the video game market rising year after year, it is bound to fall under a certain system. Many studies have brought the attention to the idea of the
No one can deny the fact that media is the most powerful tool of communication? Communication and interaction are the constitutive parts of everyday life. Our morning starts with the news that we get from morning newspaper, radio or television. Every generation the developer has a plan to improve media. In the modern world, people consider media as one of the most requirements that people can’t dispense from it. Media is everything, and the world seems to be nothing without it. It is difficult to imagine how people get to know some important news without newspapers, magazines, internet, and radio. Everybody a lot of methods helps him to collect the information. This paper is about defining types of media and their differences, defining the important role that media played, and determining the advantages of media.
Unlike previous generations who were “introduced” to the internet, television and social media, the present generation is “born” in it. By this statement, it is implied that children today are much closer to technology and media than adults are, and so, are more likely to be affected by it. Perhaps, the highest impact on the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development of children and adolescents is by media due to its ready availability through Smart phones, tablet PCs and other portable devices. This paper attempts to evaluate some of the influences of media on various aspects of child and adolescent development.
Information and entertainment today are usually spread through the development of technology. Due to this, various medias enable us to give and receive information. Media can be divided into traditional media and new media (Christian, 2014). While it is easy to pinpoint the differences of the two medias, there are also some similarities that tie both medias together.
The worth of media is a very controversial topic. Media has given us the ability to do things in new and creative ways such as how we learn and accomplish our everyday tasks. However, we do not always know how to interpurate this information. The technology available today is constantly impacting and influencing society in tremendous ways. Many of the impacts that are accocated with media are addressed in negative ways, but can be seen from a positive perspective as well. In the current generation, media and its influences can be found everywhere. These influences widely impact today’s adolescents and maturing teenagers because they are still developing into adults. Medias purpose is not only to inform us, but to allow us to mold ourselves in how we want to be perceived online. Also, it allows us easy access to unbelievable amounts of information. Living in an era known as the “information age” is riveting, but what are we suppose to do with all of this new technology and information?
What do we really mean by television? The way we watch television has drastically changed over the last fifteen years due to new technologies such as digital television and services providing on-demand access. These drastic changes have had a huge effect on viewers and have “allowed online streaming platforms to dominate and revolutionize the way the audience consumes” (Aliloupour) media, ultimately allowing the viewer to be in total control of how, when and where they want their content. The idea of only being able to watch television on a television set is now a thing of the past. Due to technology, the audience now has a vast variety of options on how they can access content. By using scholarly articles, research in new media and Internet sites I will be analyzing current television and where the future of television will be heading.
Every society, no matter how civilized or uncivilized has its totality and way of life. This pattern or way of life is carried on from one generation to another. It is technically and naturally impacted on to the young one’s through various channels of communication Of which one of the outstanding is the electronic media which is the radio and television.
