There are countless articles about the history of beer pong and it appears that everyone comes back to some college that invented the game. According to the “Book of Beer Pong”, “beer pong started at Dartmouth College sometime in the 1950s and 1960s" (DiSorbo, D. (2009)). But at the same time, Bucknell University claims to have invented the game in the 1970s (Allshouse, J. (2004, July 16)). There wasn’t a direct source about where it came from but reading more into it, each article mentioned “throw pong” instead beer pong.
“Now when it comes down to beer pong setup, the first procedure is to arrange ten solo cups in a pyramid-like formation on each side of a table. Fill each cup with the desired amount of beer. Beer Pong is played by teams of two. Once a ball lands in a cup, the cup is taken away and the opponent then drinks the contents of the cup. If both teammates make the cups, the balls are rolled back and they get to shoot again. The team that successfully hits all of the opponent’s cups wins the game. Winner of the game typically stays on the table and awaits next challenger. (Eason, D. (2005, May 13))”
Just like football, each team gets a chance to receive the ball first. If it is the first game of the night, the first shot is decided by “Eyes.” “Eyes is when the teammates are ready to face off against the other team, one person from each team gets a ball and has to shoot into the opponents cups at the same time eye to eye.
