The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is located in south and central Asia. Its geographic coordinates are 33 00 N, 65 00 E. Afghanistan’s neighboring countries include India, Pakistan, Iran and, China (about.com). Afghanistan has 647,500 square kilometers of area and since it is surrounded by land, it has no water area. Afghanistan is a relatively small country. For example, it is roughly the size of Texas. Afghanistan has cold winters and hot summers. The warm season begins in May and ends in September; the average temperature is twenty-eight degrees Celsius. On the other hand the cold season lasts from December to March with an average temperature of nineteen degrees Celsius (Weather Spark). The temperature usually never goes below…show more content…
One paradigm of this is that a higher birth rate represents a lower level of literacy. The highest point in Afghanistan is Nowshak, which is 7,485m above ground level. The lowest level at 258m is Amu Darya. Afghanistan’s location provides it with a multitude of natural resources. The natural resources include gas, petroleum, coal, copper, barites, sulfur, iron, salt, ore, zinc, and talc. CULTURE “Afghan society is very complex, and Afghanistan has a very complex culture. Part of the reason it has remained unknown is because of this complexity” (Mohsen Makhmalbaf) The official languages of Afghanistan are Dari and Pashto but as shown by the image several languages are spoken. The main religion is Islam and it is practiced by a majority of the population. Although there are small Sikh, Hindu, and Jewish communities over 99% of the population is Muslim. Muslims are either Shia or Sunni, however a majority in Afghanistan are Sunni Muslim. Islam is an Abrahamic religion put together through the Islamic holy book that is known as the Qur’an. The God that the followers believe in is known as Allah. An adherent of Allah is known as a Muslim (The Free Dictionary). Muslims believe that the purpose of life is to worship God. The ceremonies are centered around the five pillars, these five pillars are basic rules for a Muslim. Five Pillars- 1. The creed 2. Daily prayers 3. Almsgiving 4. Fast during Ramadan 5.
