Introduction Terrorist organizations continue to develop around the world and carry out attacks to instill fear, hurt, and kill thousands of people. Despite anti-terrorism efforts, known terror groups continue to conduct terror attacks globally. Of the known terrorist organizations that are listed by the U.S. Department of State, the one most likely to conduct an attack in the United States would be the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Islamic State (IS) otherwise known as ISIS. Due to the complex capabilities of ISIS ideology, leadership, and distinct global threat; ISIS has become the greatest known threat to the U.S. Homeland.
Description of the Organization Prior to August 2014, known splinter cells of the organization have conducted attacks in cities such as Orlando, Florida where an individual conducted a mass shooting at a night club, killing 50 people and injuring just as many then he pledged his allegiance to ISIS. Furthermore, individuals have conducted attacks in San Bernardino, California killing 14 people and injuring more than 20 individuals not necessarily an ISIS-related individual but these attackers were defiantly inspired by the Islamic State. On November 13, 2015, individuals from ISIS claimed horrific attacks that killed over 130 people and injured more than 368 when three suicide bombers detonated themselves during a football game in Paris France, while armed gunmen took hostages in a theater nearby. As a result of these attacks, ISIS
This assignment is a qualitative study about Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). What it ISIS? Where does it come from? What are its intentions? These questions seem to be simple but can be misrepresenting. According to Schmitt, Major General Nagata, the Special Operations commander for the U.S. in the Middle East, admitted that that he had barely begun figuring out the Islamic State?s appeal. ?We have not defeated the idea,? he said. ?We do not even understand the idea.? In the past year, President Obama has referred to the Islamic State as ?not Islamic? and as al-Qaeda?s second team statements that reflected confusion about the group, and may have contributed to significant strategic errors (Schmitt, 2014).
The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham is a terrorist organization that began as Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Since Al-Sham can mean Syria or the Levant, media and governments usually refer to them as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL); some use the derogatory name Daesh in order to avoid recognizing the group’s claims. The Islamic State declared themselves a caliphate with Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi becoming Caliph Ibrahim. He claims authority over all loyal Muslims worldwide, and uses extreme violence in an attempt to spread their extreme ideology. They pose a great threat to the Middle East and the West as long as they continue to exist and hold power in the region. In order to limit the radical long-term effect they could have on the world, the nations of the Coalition against them must devote all available resources to destroying the organization rather than many devoting some resources to containing them.
One of the most deadly terrorist organization known is ISIS, which basically means Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. This Islamist militant group has pretty much taken control of a piece of land going from northern Syria to central Iraq, they have provoked a huge fear in the hearths of leaders around the globe. The group pretty much got stablished in 2004 as al Qaeda in Iraq, before been renamed as ISIS after 2 years. They were ally with Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda: both were important anti-Western militant organizations dedicated to stablish an independent Islamic state in the region. According to my source, ISIS initiation began in the Second Gulf War in 2003, when United States, along with a small group of other nations, invaded Iraq and knock
In today’s day and age, the United States faces a new evil which has risen from the ashes of “Al-Quada In Iraq.” It has taken the place of other insurgent groups where we deployed military forces in the Middle East and beyond. The atrocities caused by this group may go down in history on the same level of Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany during World War II, Khan, Stalin, and the Crusades. As stated above, the so-called “Islamic State” began as Al-Queda in Iraq, evolving into the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Now, they simply call themselves, the Islamic State, or IS. We must understand what this means ideologically. Ideology has been defined by many scholars as “religious extremism.” The statement made by ISIS to the west and the whole world has not been fully understood by all. It not only considers itself to be an Islamic Caliphate (an extremist Islamic government ruled by Sharia law), but THE Caliphate, hoping to encompass the globe. This threat is not to be taken lightly.
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria also known as ISIS, was formed in April 2013 out of al-Qaeda. ISIS is being lead by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, born in Samarra, north of Baghdad. In 2010 Abu became the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq which later became ISIS . ISIS have become one of the most advanced terrorist groups known. Having multiple sources of income for money and weapons, have made it hard for countries like the United States to put a stop to this organization. Matthew Levitt, director of the Stein Program on Counterterrorism and Intelligence at the Washington Institute called Isis "the best-financed group we 've ever seen." (Bronstein).
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has made headlines throughout the globe this past year with their atrocities against religious minorities and determination to create an Islamic caliphate. They have expressed, throughout, that their primary objective is to establish a Salafist government over the Levant region of Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey(……). The group controls hundreds of square miles, where they disregard all international borders and has a amassed land from Syria’s Mediterranean coast all the way to the south of Baghdad. Their group leader is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who is recognized as caliph and the leader of Muslims everywhere. With their unpredictable authority that has included beheadings, massacres of prisoners, and attempts to exterminate Christian communities have spurred international outrage where Anti-coalition has begun with up to 62 nations joining the fight to stop this terror organization. Canada has joined the coalition, and it should indeed, because ISIS has declared war against Canada, war is the only practical way to stop ISIS from amassing new territories, and ISIS is committing war crimes against innocent civilians.
In the horror novel, Supernatural Horror in Literature, the author, H.P. Lovecraft starts off by stating the following: “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” Choosing the topic of ISIS/ISIL, which are the Islamic State of Iraq & Syria / the Islamic State of Iraq & the Levant, was an easy choice because in truth, I know very little about the terrorist groups within these Islamic States. I, along with seventy percent of Americans, fear the rise of the IS and would consider them the number one threat to American interests (Telhami). Through further studying this topic, I have been able to better understand how ISIS/ISIL was created, along with understanding International Law’s ambiguous confrontation of the issue regarding the use of force.
If you turn on the news for more than fifteen minutes anywhere in the nation today you are almost sure to hear about the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria otherwise known as ISIS. They are without a doubt one of the most ruthless, violent and extreme terrorists organizations that the World has seen in recent history. Consisting of Sunni Arabs they primarily operate out of the middle east and some parts of southeast Asia, however according to many terror experts they are a real threat to carry-out an attack against the U.S. on our own soil. Earlier this year an Ohio man was arrested who allegedly planned to bomb the U.S. capital in the name of ISIS. This radical Islamist group is growing each day and getting stronger, and poses a real threat
ISIS or Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is a very current problem for the world and is being perceived a new form of terrorism. Proponents of the theory that ISIS has got the ability to operate at global level and is a prima facie potential threat to the universal security of humankind around the globe argue that ISIS should be dealt with iron hands, and a joint, coherent and integrated effort by all the nations to destroy ISIS is required to eliminate this global terrorist group. On the other hand, another school of thought denies this face and argues that ISIS is not capable of operating at the global level and is a local group comprising of Sunni militants capable of creating chaos and fear for their ethno political nationalism for their own survival. They have chosen the path of terrorism as the only option available to them. This paper will examine the existence of ISIS as an existential threat to all other nations and people. Perception about the ISIS being a globalized terrorist group has its roots in bombing attacks in Paris and Brussels and other parts of Iraq and Syria. This paper will discuss the causes of ISIS emergence, its effects on global security and solution to the problem after finding the reason that why it has not been wrapped up yet. Lastly, a superhero will provide the most feasible solution to the subject world problem. Causes of the subject world problem are too vast to be discussed in
The world is at war. You ask with who? Terrorism, to be more specific though they are called The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). They have a few other names as well, The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Daesh. I will choose to call them Daesh in this piece because these terrorists find it insulting. The reason for this is that Daesh an acronym for ISIS in Arabic. This acronym though sounds exactly like the Arabic word dais, which means something that crushes or tramples. “In recent months many Arabs and Western leaders, including Secretary of State John Kerry, prefer to call it Daesh, the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State. But Islamic State members hate the term because in Arabic, the pronunciation is close to a word that can be variously translated as "to crush" or "bigot who imposes his will on others" (Reid, 2). Daesh do not want this title and have threatened to cut out the tongues of people who use it. Daesh are a product of instability in the Syrian and Iraq region plus a Syrian civil war. Unfortunately, America is greatly at fault for the instability in Iraq and helped fund the Syrian rebels, so you could say the U.S. helped create them. Daesh’s goal is to start a religious war. They want the world to fear Islam and want them to hate it. They showed us exactly what they were capable of in Paris France. The world needs to realize that this is just a
The vast array of terrorist organizations that exist around the world have varying ideologies, financial assets, command structures and power. Most of the world is aware of very few of these groups and are often only able to identify organizations that have committed very destructive and deadly attacks on citizens of western nations. Nearly everyone knows about Al Qaeda, the Taliban and Hezbollah because their intentions are well publicized and they have successfully struck fear into many groups. While these organizations are important to examine when studying terrorism, it is more important that we look at all the groups that data have been collected for to find out how terrorist groups work, their power and what factors are key to their continuing existence.
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a military and political organization which is mainly led by nationals of Iraq and Syria. ISIS has committed crimes of unimaginable cruelty in Syria and Iraq but the international criminal court (ICC) does not have the power to open a case, according to Fatou Bensouda. The court was unable to prosecute because neither Syria nor Iraq were members of ICC. (ICC, 2015) Crimes which have been reported, consist of mass executions, sexual slavery, rape and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence, torture, mutilation, deployment and forced recruitment of children and the harassment of ethnic and religious minorities, and the destruction of cultural property.
The Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS) is a radical terrorist organization which has separated itself from other terrorist organizations through its scope of violence, ability and pervasive rhetoric. Since its rise to prominence, the group has caused both localized and international turmoil and loss of civilian life. Despite the ardent failure of the United Nations and its member states to recognize the Islamic state as a legitimate state, ISIS has managed to control and establish governance over large swaths of both Syria and Iraq in their mission to create a global caliphate. Because of this, combating the terrorism of ISIS could be considered a two pronged problem. First, combating the terrorism of both the terrorist groups and its attacks on military and civilians and the spread of its ideology. And secondly attacking an insurgent government with the resources and founding of a state. The Islamic State’s continual growth and resilience in the face of global adversity shows the magnitude of the power and versatility of the group. ISIS is an insurgent organization, once pushed to the edges of society has managed to successfully transform itself into an organization that controls territory, attracts recruits from around the world, and continues to make gains against other rebel groups and national armies. The rise of the Islamic state can be attributed to many social, and global circumstances such as the destability in the regions of the middle east due
The events which transpired on January 7th and 9th in Paris were merely an act by terrorist vermin. Unlike people like us, these radicals are disaffected renegades who crave things they never had. The root of all evil, terrorists seek to destroy the lives of innocent people by any means necessary. They infringe on our God given rights. The horrific brutality inflicted by these extremists instills fear among people. These cowards seek to destroy the beauty of freedom. A recent emergence of an international threat has brought up the attention of the United States, and their name is ISIS.
The bait-ul-maal is a unique institute which was established for the economic prosperity of the people. As we all know in the Islamic system of life sovereignty belongs to Allah and man is His vicegerent on earth. Similarly the same concept applies to Bait-ul-maal, where Allah is sole master of this treasury while the caliphs are only the trustee of Bait-ul-Maal. In this sense the concept of Bait-ul-maal is different from the concept of public exchequer in un-Islamic systems. In an Islamic state Bait-ul-maal is Safeguarded and expenditures from it is made in
