So, the first time I saw him was at the annual city festival, at the end of the plaza, on, uh, "Punker Hill", also known as "The Island of Misfits". Um, It's like a mound of black leather and army surplus jackets and boots and spiky egg-white hairdos and mohawks and second generation Exploited and Minor Threat and Sex Pistols patches and stuff. Basically a haven for the misunderstood punk-y, rock-y, goth-y, "Woe is me" types And, uh, there he was, right in the middle of it all. Um, oversized yellow form-rubber cowboy hat; pink plastic Toys-R-Us pistols and holster. Off-white dashiki, uh, shirt, and tattered bell bottom jeans, leather feet, Raleigh cigarette finger stains. And he was an island within an island, and I just, kinda had to know more So, I, uhh, I sat with him for hours just trying to get a bearing on his beautiful insanity. Every third inquiry was met with, you know, an eloquent but unusual response, and, you know, the subsequent exchange, it …show more content…
I think it was Foreigner, playing through the headphones. And I asked maybe, you know "Hey maybe you could turn that down, so we can talk? ", and he replied "Can you hear me"? and I said "Yes", he said "Well, then it's fine". He never really pretended, not once, to be able to organize all of this chaos that was going on around us. Uh, he just unapologetically chose which pieces to focus on Well, you know, after a few hours we seemed to have found our stride, found our rhythm, kinda settled into it, and we're having these intermittent conversations, uh, flipping back and forth between the chaos and the focus. And then, just kinda out of nowhere, he seemed to become a little unsettled and disturbed. And I asked him what was wrong and he just blurted out "Peanuts parents and syrup", and then he looked at me like I wondered what that means, and then he said, "You have any, do you have any
A lot of the major undertones of Christianity have been discussed leading up to the accident and what occurs after the families run in with onlookers. What ends up getting the family in this situation was a series of unfortunate events. The grandmother believes she is telling a family about a house she believes is in this area, but later realizes that she was wrong and was thinking of Tennessee. The son/father (Bailey) was so infuriated by his children and mother yelling about taking the side trip that he angrily yells at everyone and starts driving down a dirt road recklessly when everything happens. The grandmothers cat gets out of the hidden crate and latches onto Bailey this causes him to veer off into a ditch flipping the car and causing
In David Vine’s, Island of Shame, he discusses the impoverishment of expulsion and reveals the harsh truth about what happened to the residents of Diego Garcia. He does this by living with and interviewing families that have been deeply affected by their exile, which aided him in obtaining a new perspective to help develop clear and concise evidence for the lawsuit established by the Chagossians who are fighting for their rights as human beings and their land.
Why does the Misfit recoil from the grandmother when she touches him,”as if a snake had bitten him”?
My now, golden mane blew in the wind as the others attempted to catch up to me.
A criminal is one who has committed a crime. In this story, there is a character that is a looming threat according to the grandmother. This criminal is left with a tragic that has left him disillusioned especially when it comes to the terms of seeing the goodness in the world. The Misfit, himself, says, “I call myself The Misfit because I can’t make what all I done wrong fit what all I gone through in punishment” (O’Connor 377). This shows that The Misfit has been through quite a lot of trouble or has caused a lot of trouble. This character demonstrates how O’Connor applied religious and cultural aspects in the story.
“You don't always have to be so mean, Murray,” Ally said, clearly having also become irritated by Murray's boorishness.
One of the many questions man wants to know is what it means to be human. There are many different opinions on what it means to be human, and many have tried to explain this question in different ways. Michael Bay’s film, The Island, does a great job with representing what characteristics a person must have to not be human. The movie The Island is about two main characters, Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta, who live in a subterranean structure. These two characters defined as unorthodox under the control of Dr. Merrick and eventually find out that there is more to life than waiting to go to “The Island”. Michael Bay’s movie, The Island, gives many examples how Jordan Two Delta and Lincoln Six Echo are dehumanized.
especially those who may be very different from herself.”. (Kirk 1). Before, she was afraid of The Misfit- as she should be-and it was not until her epiphany that her view of The Misfit truly changed. (Kirk 1). Because the grandmother saw The Misfit, a person who could be interpreted as the anti-Christ, as someone she could sympathize with, she supposedly received grace. (Bethea 2). However, it was only under life threatening circumstances and she was unable to understand the little black boy in the end. Moreover, not only was the grandmother supposedly redeemed despite remaining superficial, but her family was sacrificed as well. The other family members were not necessarily exemplary human beings, but they did not deserve being killed for

"YOU. Why am I here??" So typical. "Can't you ask something different", I asked between uncontrollable giggles. Straightening my face and clearing my throat I simply said, "I have a question, could you help me answer it? Like he had a choice in the matter. He just stared at me with bewilderment like I had dragged him here just to ask a
I was like any other normal human. I learned to read. I learned to write. I eventually learned the difference between good and bad, right and wrong. Sure I am taller than most humans. Sure I don’t speak English as proper as other humans. Sure I don’t look like other humans. But if that’s not enough reasons to remind myself of me not being human, the fact that humans call me monster and run in terror when they see me is surely enough. I’m already alone. I’m already an outcast. I’m already put on the top of someone’s hit list. What else can make me more of a monster?

With the rising of the sun came the fog - the often-resented union between the cold Empire Coast Current from the north and the much warmer Dragon Stream from the south. Yet even as the fog came to greet the Royal Engstrom Docks, it found it was already bustling with activity. Well-seasoned workers were already prepping cargo and delegating teams to load the vast cargo on three separate ships, the Prince Turner, the Thane Levant, and the Underwood, The Empire's crest, a brown falcon, adorned each of the three ships. They had been painted with earth-coloured markings, as a ward against sea monsters. The massive ships were snuggled against the quayside amidst a fleet of smaller fishing craft that had returned from night fishing.
Sunday, October 5th 1968, was a bright and sunny day on Insula Floruit. A day when even the dark shadowy parts of the island, were shining and glowing like a burning fire in the night. This was a very memorable day for Todd and Sarah, vacationers from Kansas Missouri, just enjoying their vacation on the most beautiful island they've ever seen. Sarah and Todd found out about the island from a newspaper ad, advertising a new island open for the public, the island was so new neither of the two were expecting the island to hold so many deep secrets. Being two very curious travelers Todd and Sarah were both ready for this crazy new trip. After arriving to the island the two were mesmerized by how gorgeous the island was and how over crowded with people it was. Goofy looking people wearing fruit basket hats , grass skirts down to their knees, and about the ugliest flame flannel shirt. Todd and Sarah didn't notice anything strange happening on the island until a couple days later, when a lot of the people on the island started going missing, it started out as a couple people here and there but as the days disappeared so did the rest of the vacationers on Insula Floruit, not to panic Todd and Sarah scrambled to find out what's going on with the vacationers, they went to stores, the beach, and around the houses but the only people left on the island that they could find were all of the workers, even though everyone had vanished They acted like everyone was still on the island, doing their civil duties and cleaning up empty less messes except it was almost if they were watching you, or some how ended up everyplace you went on the island. Constantly following you, Sarah and Todd started to become really suspicious of the strange things happening on the island, desperate for answer they began exploring the island in more depth going deep into the jungle they were forbidden from. After an hour of walking through the thick jungle Todd and Sarah stumbled upon a big bridge with a huge lab on the other side, from a distance they spotted some of the vacationers being held and forced into the lab by people in white lab coats, shockingly frightened Todd and Sarah run and hide out in the jungle to
