Currently in the United States, roughly 73 million people cite the internet as a main source for gathering health information. The vast field of public health is dynamic, constantly evolving to meet the ever-changing needs of society. Specifically, the issue of vaccination remains relevant as it works to improve the health and living conditions of people worldwide in a way that people of all backgrounds can attain its benefits. In today’s day and age, when one is curious about any health issue, they are likely to turn to internet search engines to find information, due to the internet’s accessibility and wide expansion. However, these subjects could potentially be swayed by headlines and statistics that may not represent the whole picture.
The circulation of information on the internet contributes to the array of controversy that surrounds human papillomavirus, the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus “is so common that nearly all sexually active men and women get it at some point in their lives.” Human papillomavirus, better known as simply HPV, has close to forty strains, which can lead to warts or the development of cancer.
