For Katie, having grown up at the church where she served for six years, her investment is deep in the holistic potential of ministry, but the most painful conflict she experienced was the complications due to the ongoing friendships and boss relationships when conflict was not resolved properly. One of the biggest conflicts she had was when she had started to date someone that her boss could foresee red flags (because he mentored the young man as well), but didn 't intervene because the boss didn 't know how to speak to her both as a boss and as a friend to Katie. For her situation, Katie learned what she can expect of this individual, while also believing that it is possible, given different personalities or healthy self-awareness, to find that balance of boss and friend. Katie believes that some of the factors that could benefit this dynamic being possible is clear communication and expectations between both parties that more things can be discussable if framed within who they are speaking as (ie. "as your boss, I wanted to discuss how my expectations of you were not met in this way", or "as your friend, this is something I 've noticed"). Being able to "discuss" requires us to be able to have critical and important conversations without demonizing the messenger/person and being able to talk about what needs to be talked about. If this value is partnered with great humility on both sides to listen to one another and be open to where each could be missing something or be wrong, we could flourish.
