My research travel expedition is too Port St. Joe, Florida. With a budget of five thousand dollars and fourteen days, I could travel to, and stay in relative comfort and be within easy travel to the numerous location needed to try to find out what really happened to Old and New Iola.

18. Did the expedition accomplish its goals? Why or why not? The expedition did not accomplish all of its original goals, but it did accomplish some.

Thomas Jefferson knew that Meriwether Lewis can do the expedition, but Lewis can’t do it by himself, so he asked William Clark to join him. The expedition is to find the all water route to the Pacific to buy the Louisiana territory to have the ports. Between May of 1804 and March of 1806 they succeeded for traveling 8,000 miles in 28 months to the Pacific Ocean.

Sacagawea was born in 1788, in what is now known as Idaho, as the daughter of the Chief of the Shoshone Tribe. She led a drudgery early life and experienced many hardships. Sacagawea was part of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition in 1805. She traveled the northern plains through the Rocky Mountains and to the Pacific Ocean and back. Sacagawea was a native american girl who was taken to slavery at a young age and then went on to be remembered as a great women.

The document “Lewis and Clark’s Journal of Exploration Excerpt” was written by Lewis and Clark 's in the form of a journal. Meriwether Lewis was a captain of the regular army who had extensive frontier experience. (Lewis, 1) With him would be William Clark, Clark was a former lieutenant in the army who was recommissioned as a commander for the “corps discovery” (Lewis, 1). Along with forty or fifty men. The one thing that made Lewis and Clark different was they were both nature fanatics. Two men with military backgrounds with a love for nature along with forty or fifty other men were set out to go study and strengthen relationships with tribes along the Mississippi river.

William and Meriwether, better known as Lewis and Clark, were hired by the U.S. president Thomas Jefferson to explore the newly bought Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase was bought from France in 1803. Lewis and Clark started their expedition in 1804 near St. Louis. The group of explorers called themselves the corps of discovery. In the first winter they were helped by a Shoshone Indian named Sacagawea. Their journey was full of trouble and challenges but in the end led to a great discovery that changed the lives and beliefs of people everywhere. Their expedition stretched from camp wood to fort Clatsop. Lewis and Clark knew each other from the war where Clark was under William Lewis’s command later then Thomas Jefferson recruited Clark to lead this exploration and then he went to William Lewis to ask him to come along with him.

Ethnologist and adventurer Thor Heyerdahl became known to the world when he organized and led the famous Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947. Documentaries, Newspaper, Movies, and Novels have all been written about this expedition. Through these sources we have different ways shown of the expedition, but what do they have in common? Through our there three sources (Novel; 1951 Documentary; 2013 Movie), they all talk about how Heyerdahl had developed his theory. In 1937 Heyerdahl had moved to Polynesia to live a year on Fatu Hiva.

At the end of the expedition, on August 30, 1869, Powell and his remaining crew reach safety at a Mormon settlement named Callville, located at the south of the Virgin River. The remaining crew come across a man named Mr. Asa; who is also played by Cody Sloan. Mr. Asa comes to the men and offers to help take them back to the Mormon settlement. He says that he will tell everyone that he found Powell and his remaining crew members. The audience is left with a bit of a cliff hanger there. Will Powell and his men get the credit they deserve? What happened to the rest of his crew? We were left to decide ourselves.

"Life is hard, but accepting that fact makes it easier." This common phrase clearly states a harsh fact that Rev. Dimmesdale, a character in Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, had to face. In this story of deception and adultery set in the Puritan era, Hawthorne introduces Dimmesdale as a weak and cowardly man who refuses to take responsibility for his actions.  The Rev. Dimmesdale is a transitional character in that he is, at the beginning of the novel, outwardly good but inwardly deceitful and by the end of the novel he becomes both outwardly and inwardly truthful.

Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare during the 17th century, demonstrated the idea that other characters were responsible for Macbeth’s downfall. Macbeth, once an honorable and courageous warrior was transformed into a vain and ruthless dictator, who encountered a transformation that brought him not only the crown, but his death as well. This transformation, started by three influencing factors which included: the Three Witches, Lady Macbeth, and Macduff, manipulated Macbeth into committing acts of treason and murder. Although it was Macbeth, who was to blame for his actions, it was because of these three characters who greatly promoted him to complete those crimes.

What makes history such an interesting subject to study are the many mysteries intertwined with in it. Over the years many of the mysteries have been solved. However, one of the most intriguing mysteries still remains unsolved and leaves us with a question that needs to be answered, what happened to the settlers of the Lost Colony of Roanoke? Since their disappearance historians have come up with multiple theories about what could have possibly happened. The most popular and widely accepted theory suggests that a hostile Native American tribe abducted the colonists and either killed them or made them slaves. An alternative theory suggests that the Spanish attacked the colony and killed the settlers. Another less credible, but still popular, theory is about the Dare Stones, a set of rocks that tell stories supposedly by the colonists which explain what happened to them. While all of these theories have some merit there are inconstancies within them that make each of them false. A lack of information and technology is what caused the flaws in these theories and make incorrect. However, thanks to advancement in technology and new information a recent scientific study can prove what happened to the colonists of Roanoke. This new theory can be used to explain the disappearance of the hundreds of colonists and finally shed light on a mystery that is centuries old.

Water is a fundamental resource necessary for all life on Earth. Humanity would be extinct without it. People think there is an unlimited supply of water, however there is not. The overuse of water is a problem that needs to be stopped. Society needs to learn to live in a more sustainable way. If humanity continues to overuse Earth’s natural resources the way it does today, the Earth will run dry. To prevent the depletion of water, people need to be aware of their impact on the environment and live sustainably. By controlling the population, limiting fossil fuel usage, and stopping greed, the depletion of water can be prevented.

In the summer of 2005 I had the opportunity to intern at The Franklin Institute Museum in PA. This museum is one of the many well known science museums across the country. The Franklin Institute Museum is a unique museum that gives the experience of exploring science in a fun and fascinating way. The museum touches bases on many areas of science such as, anatomy, physics, environmental sciences, and space. The Franklin Institute is named after Benjamin Franklin and is the home of his national memorial statue. It was founded in 1824 and its first building was established in 1825; since then its location has changed with in the city of Philadelphia but it still remains to be one
