Power is defined as the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. Power can be used in a helpful manner or abused. Abuses of power are not just shown in books like Les Miserables and The Kite Runner, a prime example of misuse of power that is recent in the real world would be Donald Trump. Trump has used his presidency to promote his hotels, resorts, and golf courses through multiple tweets and press conferences. You get on his good side by spending money on things that will benefit him, his businesses, and his wealth. In both Les Miserables and The Kite Runner power is used and abused. This can be seen in how characters are treated by other characters, family members, strangers, and society.

Around the time that all the boys were teenagers Assef raped Hassan for something that Hassan had said to him weeks earlier when he was standing up for Amir. Years later, Hassan and his wife Farzana were shot for being Hazara. Sohrab, Hassan’s son was placed in an overcrowded orphanage. The man running the orphanage would basically sell children to a man who would come every month and pick one. If the man running it would refuse, then the man coming every month would take 10 instead of 1, the children never returned to the orphanage. Many years later Assef is still a bully. He is now with the Taliban and is the man who goes to the orphanage to take children. One month, he takes Sohrab and he rapes him, a little child. Sohrab is not the only child that this has happened to with Assef but that just shows Assefs true character.
