The Knights of War: Peter’s Story
It was the month of May, day 21, year 1393. The winter had just passed and everything was beginning to thaw like ice on fire. And all the farmers began to start beginning there new crops for the year, for if they began late there crops would die by the beginning of the frigid winter. But this story takes place on the West side hills about a boy with the name of Peter. He lived with his father who worked as a fieldsman. But sadly he doesn’t have a mother. He had trained over the past 14 years and has been doing much fieldwork to help his father. Today was the big day. There was going to be a battle in the town square to see who would be the new apprentice for Sr. John. He was the greatest commander of the king's infantry but sadly his trustworthy, and loyal friend, Zane had lost hope and joined the side of the barbarians. The war had just begun do to a misunderstanding. There was a treaty but in the treaty it showed that the barbarians had less land while the king had more. So they claimed war. This has been going for about 3 years now. So Sr. John needed a new apprentice to be a new knight. Peter began to travel down the road to the town when his father said,” What are you doing?” “I’m going to the battle to become a knight father” Peter said. “ But…. I thought we agreed no.” “Father I want to get out in the world learn something new I can’t stay here for the rest of my life.” “Fine son but be careful, you know those men can play dirty.” “Yes father I will be careful.” As Peter came down the road there was many people so he walked up to the line and saw there was many challengers so he grabbed his mighty sword, which he made in the blacksmith shop, and put his armor on. The battle had started he moved swiftly with agility so that he might not get hit. He had already taken down two. There were four left so he waited
The argument placed in Mandell’s book is stated in the Prologue. It states “...King Philip's War was ultimately a war of sovereignty as well as land,”(3). The supporting points are separated throughout the book. Mandell includes multiple primary resources, such as Mary Rowlandson’s account of being captured; hopefully, showing the English that the Natives were serious about their land. Not only does Mandell use Rowlandson’s account, he also refers to many of the colonists journals and publications afterwards.
According to a Medieval legend, the Grand Master of Knights Templar Jacques de Molay (1243 – the 18th of March 1314), before being burned upon a scaffold, cursed Philip the Fair, his entire family and Pope Clement V. Both, King Philip and Pope Clement died only a few months after and Philip's male heirs died young and childless, whose consequence was the so-called 'The Hundred Years War', which started from 1337 to 1453 and was a series of connected conflicts between Edward III of England (son of Isabella of France and Philip's grandson), the Valois kings of France (Philip's cousins) of France, factions of French nobles and other allies over both claims to the French throne and control of land in France.
1. Do you admire Palamon and Arcite for sacrificing everything, including their friendship, to pursue Emily? Or, like Theseus, do you think it's sort of stupid?
Prior to Peter taking reign, the Russian society was in a rough condition. The economy was failing and the country's standing army was extremely weak. Russia was also in the midst of a war against the Ottoman Turkish Empire, with a goal to secure a Russian port on the northern coast of the Black Sea. Peter the Great ruled over Russia from 1682-1752.He tried to form warm water ports so they had the ability to trade in the in the winter. He also tried to improve Russia and modernize the culture. As an effect of these things, Peter the Great had an overall positive impact on Russia during his rule.
For my report, I chose to summarize how Brian Helgeland’s movie “A Knight’s Tale” (2001) draws its medieval themes and story from Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales: The Knight’s Tale”. Besides the nearly identical titles of these works and the moderately similar storyline, it can be further proven that “A Knight’s Tale” is an adaption of “The Knight’s Tale” because Geoffrey Chaucer appears as a character himself—and a vital one at that—in the movie. Furthermore, just to make certain that there is no mistake among the viewers about who they are dealing with, Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany) even refers to himself as a writer in the movie and points out his very first own work “The Book of the Duchess” in disbelief when some peasants don’t
Metacom, known as King Philip to English colonists, was the leader of the Wampanoag Confederacy during the 17th century. Years after his birth, Metacom would be the cause of King Philip’s war, which resulted in the death of more than six hundred settlers, as well as the destruction of multiple colonies, and his own death.
During the Medieval Era, their was not much to do for entertainment besides watch the tournaments that were held all over Western Civilizations. In modern times, many people know what jousting and sword fighting are but not like the way “A Knights Tale” show them. This movie was made in 2001 and was soon a crowd favorite. The modernization of a dark age era gave the audience entertainment through action, love and comedy. The tournaments were very exciting during this era, specifically the 14th century. This movie had many mixed reviews between historians and regular movie goers. There are a lot of great aspects of this movie but also many critiques historically. The movie is a portrayal of the Medieval games which helps a more modern audience
King Philip's War, war that hollowed Native Americans against English pioneers and their Indian partners that was one of the bloodiest clashes in U.S. history. The war is named for Metacomet, the Wampanoag boss who received the English name Philip because of the well disposed relations between his dad and the Mayflower Pilgrims. The war preceded in the most northern spans of New England until the marking of the Treaty of Casco Bay in April 1678.
Sergei Prokofiev wrote Peter and the wolf in 1936 to teach young children the instruments of the orchestra. Prokofiev wrote both the story and composed the music, creating a symphonic fairy tale that has been enjoyed by children for decades. The work is in three sections which makes the story and music easy for children to follow. The beginning section introduces characters in the story, each represented by a musical instrument. The middle section develops the exciting story. The third and final section summarizes the story and serves as a review of each musical theme as characters join in a parade at the end.
King Philip’s War was the most highly destructive and damaging conflict between the Native Americans and the colonists in New England. An alternative names for this war is Metacom’s War or Metacom’s Rebellion named after the Native American’s leader King Philip. The conflict began on June 1675, and roughly ends around August of 1676. This war represent the last movement to push the English settlers back to their original land.
Peter Lalor followed his heart. He was a threat to the governors control and he stood against the government for the first time. Peter Lalor always would put the miners rights before his own rights. Peter Lalor not only helped the people of Australia but also helped the miners, now the miners would not have to spend all of their money on licenses but the can also spend it on tools and food.
"The bloodiest war in America's history took place in New England in 1675. It was King Phillip's War. One of the many ironies of this conflict is that Philip was the son of Massasoit; the same Massasoit who had helped the Plymouth Pilgrims survive their first winter in the New World. A father's kindness would became a son's curse. Philip made his way back to his tribal headquarters near Swansea at Mount Hope, where the war had started. Benjamin Church, using friendly Indians as scouts, tracked him throughout the summer while Philip made hit and run attacks on isolated farms in the region. But Church eventually caught up with him. An Indian who was guiding Church fired his musket and sent a musketball through Philip's heart. The death of Philip
Peter Lalor had bravery in his soul. He led and fought for the gold miners in the Eureka Stockade. He was also willing to sacrifice his life by standing up for what he believed in.
In “The Veldt,” Peter is a ten-year-old boy who doesn’t have any respect for his parents, constantly losing his temper. Peters parents don’t show love to him like they should so he uses the nursery to cope with the feeling that he does not get from George and Lydia. Peter is uneasy with his parents and it causes them to start a big argument with his parents. George and Lydia try to take away the nursery but Peter does not understand why they want to do this and where his parents are coming from. To Peter, the nursery is all he’s got and so he becomes very angry at them.
Thesis: It is the intent of this paper to dig into the life of Peter and see just who this man that passionately followed Christ was. As we dig into the life of Peter we will examine his character strengths, his weaknesses, and overall how Peter was transformed by Christ. We will see how God took a man who more often than not acted without thinking and transformed him into a passionate follower who’s words we read today in God’s very words to us.
