Typically referred to as the KKK, the Ku Klux Klan was an immorally racist secret society which utilised acts of violence and terrorism to assert white supremacy and maintain a strict racial hierarchy in South America following the end of the American Civil War in 1865.
History
The KKK was a Christian organisation formed in Pulaski, Tennessee on December the 24th, 1865. The name ‘Ku Klux Klan’ is derived from the Greek word ‘kylos’, meaning ‘circle,’ and the Scottish–Gaelic word of ‘clan’ - for the sake of alliteration. The 19th-century clan established to reverse the post-civil war laws which elevated the rights of the African-American population and to prevent the abolishment of slavery. The original KKK group reached its peak between 1868 and 1870, having introduced the first extreme aspects of racism and discrimination following the introduction of laws after the war.
Members of the anti-Black organisation sought the restoration of white supremacy throughout the South and employed intimidation and violence as a method of pushing back the enfranchisement of local African-Americans. The group focused on targeting countries where the races were treated relatively equal.
In the hopes of influencing upcoming elections and providing the organisation with an opportunity to overthrow Republican state governments, representatives would destroy property, assault locals, raid areas and commit terror acts and devious crimes such as murder.

The Ku Klux Klan, known as the KKK, has been one of the most feared groups in America since the end of the civil war during post-war reconstruction.. The civil war was not just about the rights of the black man, but it was a very important part. People in the north mostly believed the black person was due the same liberties insured by the U.S. Constitution. The 14th Amendment of the constitution gave equal protection to former slaves. However people in the south saw the black man as inferior and a slave needed to work on the plantation. This led to continued unrest after the war. Some felt the black man and those that supported his cause needed to be stopped. They wanted to control the black population. The Klan also would torture white people who were sympathetic to the blacks and their situation.

The KKK) and aimed to “cleanse” the American population of black people and was used to launch attacks on black people and the people that advocated and supported their rights. The KKK hated the blacks because they believed slaves, who were the blacks, are to be less than human. Only white Anglo-Saxon Protestants or known as “WASPS” could become members. The members also had to pay monthly fees so they could “adopt a highway” to look good in the eyes of the communities.
The Ku Klux Klan was a politically and racially motivated group that discouraged and frustrated attempts at racial equality (Bowles 2011). They were against all equality for anyone who supported a Union or was black. They were in control of the Southern states and they ran amuck abusing and murdering anyone they felt would threaten their way of life and the local and state governments sat back and supported their efforts to keep the blacks enslaved at all costs.
