Gateway Academy Summer Assignment: The Leader’s Code-Reflection Paper
To be an effective leader there are certain things you need to master and understand very well. A few of them were discussed in the book The Leader’s Code by Donovan Campbell and those are the ones I am discussing today. The topics are mission, humility, excellence, kindness, discipline, courage, wisdom, and virtue and the servant leader. These are all key to successful leadership. To adequately lead you need to know your mission or ultimate goal. That is where you start, it is the base of your journey. Your mission should always be in the back of your head and you should always remember what the ultimate goal is and stay on track with it. You have to understand

Kindness is crucial in life, especially if you want to be a leader. N one will take you seriously or have respect for you if you are not kind. Everyone should be treated with kindness and act with it as well. Kindness should never be mistaken for weakness, because it is the exact opposite. It takes a lot to be kind to people especially when they are being difficult, but a strong leader will ignore them and continue to treat them with kindness, and as cheesy as it sounds, “kill them with kindness”. It does not matter how the other person responds to the kindness; it is just important that you are kind, and you will be rewarded in the long run. It may not seem like it but kindness has extensive effects on the lives of our team members. Instead of yelling orders at them if you speak to them with a hint of kindness in your tone it will go a long way. Try it out and see for yourself. Leaders are the ones to set example, so as long as they’re kind, the team should follow in suit and soon everything will be running smoothly as they get towards their …show more content…
Wisdom is also known as insight or common sense. Wisdom is understanding the best goal in every situation and choosing the best way to attain it. You need to look past poor decisions, make sure that you pick the smartest and most wise choice that benefits everyone the most, and helps you to achieve your mission the best. Wisdom is not only needed to be a good leader, but you also need wisdom throughout your life to make smart choices to benefit yourself. You have to balance out all outcomes and make the best choice. Wisdom allows us to make the best choices in all aspects of life; and although at times it is hard to make a choice, wisdom gives us peace and allows us to enjoy the days that are at
It takes a lot to be a leader. It takes experience, communication, positivity, passion, and much more to be an effective leader. Communication, positivity, and passion are the three most important characteristics to me. I represent all three of these with great pride. I communicate effectively whether it be in the classroom, on
Wisdom is sometimes considered as how much knowledge someone has. This is completely wrong; wisdom is actually “the ability to discern and judge which aspects of that knowledge are true, right, lasting…” (Wisdom). This comes out of receiving God’s truth through contact with Him, and applying that truth to a personal experience. Wisdom could be learning from mistakes. If an individual makes one, they might realize it, but never pay attention to how they could fix it. If they would just realize their mistake and use it to make a decision in the future, however, they would have become wiser. In Chaim Potok’s book The Chosen, Danny and Reuven’s wisdom produces a genuine and rich communication between the two, nurtured a mutual pursuit of truth, and directed them to developing a deep
Being a good leader is done by making the correct choices and inspiring people to complete their tasks and work together as a team. In order to be a great leader you need to think outside the box and travel the road that is seldom or never traveled. A great leader will use their inspiration and determination to complete the tasks no matter what hurdles or problems they
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human
What is wisdom? Wisdom is the experience that you learn in life. It is seeing these experiences and asking yourself questions: What can I do differently? How can I change? What else can I learn? Being open minded leaves the door open to a much brighter world. We will see things differently, perhaps even better than before. Having a better insight in life is truly what wisdom is. Many philosophers both old and present have their own way of defining this. Some of the views may be similar to my own views while others are just different. I will explain how my answer to this question has or hasn’t changed since reading
To be an effective leader I agree that one must be skillful and understands what the organizational mission is. When working in a complex environment, one will have to navigate, negotiate, and learn how to work in a matrix environment. Communication is key to ensure that all understand what the mission, goals, and values of an organization are. Some may get distracted because of a shift in priorities, but a leader must be able to accomplish tasks and do it effectively and efficiently.
Equally as important as having responsibility, having kindness is crucial to becoming an effective leader. Being amiable to everyone is a way of showing kindness, and when others see it, this action becomes prevalent. Back in 1944, an officer named Wilm Hosenfeld had helped a hidden survivor from a concentration camp in Germany by giving the survivor sustenance and safe refuge. As a result of his kindness, Hosenfeld’s actions disseminated into today’s era. Presently, people fight for leadership positions. When numerous people compete for a leadership position, the eventual leader must be kind. It shows that the more patient competitor is more of a leader than one who is yelling his/her head off and fist-fighting. I’ve experienced seeing
Becoming an effective leader is a lot like being in the stock market. You don 't make your fortune in a day; you make it daily, a little bit at a time. What matters most is what you do day after day, over the long haul. The secret to leadership success is investing in your leadership development, much like letting your assets compound. The final result is "Leadership Growth" over time.
Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement. Knowledge is facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. You may gain knowledge through education but you can't be taught wisdom. Sometimes that's a hard learned lesson. In Siddhartha, Herman Hesse uses the theme wisdom cannot be learned nor gained through teachings but can only be achieved through experience. Which is very evident through seeing Siddhartha going through his journey of life to reach full enlightenment/wisdom on his own.
Wisdom is a bit of an elusive topic. There seems to be a general consensus of what counts as wisdom, however, when asked for a definition ‘acting with regards to knowledge and understanding’ is commonly used. While this definition is certainly workable, it does not go very deep into this vast concept. How exactly do knowledge and understanding interact to reach the level of wisdom? There is not a whole lot of work done analyzing the process of acting wisely. One such attempt is made by Jason Swartwood, who claims that wisdom can be thought of as an expert skill. He claims that wisdom is the same kind of epistemic achievement as expert decision-making. This approach to wisdom allows for interesting insight into this topic and can begin to look
Wisdom a leader that has a vision and the courage to execute this vision. In my organization the leader serves in the community, serves on state wide committees, and pastors two churches, and also organized sixty ministries.
When talking about wisdom to someone unaware of the process to OF becoming wise, one may say that wisdom is knowing all there is to know about life; another may say that wisdom is having ultimate knowledge and insight through experience. I personally agree with Tom Robbins when he describes the six qualities needed for wisdom.
Wisdom is an acquired quality. This gift of the Holy Spirt grows in and with you. Wisdom has little to do with looks. One may think a man who is old and bearded is wise because he appears like he has been through a lot in his life. People that have the gift of wisdom look past appearance and look within. In other words, they don’t judge a book by its cover. Divisions drive wise people crazy. This gift has nothing to do with being smart or right but everything to do with being real. People with wisdom can hear beneath the surface of others and are very patient. They do not allow other people to get under their skin.
It is knowing when to plan and when to attack; when to stop and when to move; and when to be quiet and when to talk. Wisdom is the ability to make the best choice among different options.
Sexton (2014) emphasizes the need for wisdom as one ages in a convincing way attributed to the credibility of the information sources and the logical presentation of points. The article precisely states the benefits of wisdom, and explains that it is much different from intelligence, but they are both relevant. Although intelligence could be essential in grasping new things, wisdom facilitates understanding an issue from various perspectives. The article continues to note that wisdom helps in improving relationships with others due to the reflection it offers. Although wisdom could imply hesitation in decision making, it leads to more compassion and tolerance when relating with other people. It is categorically stated that humanity cannot be attained by an unwise person. Finally, the article states that wisdom allows one to arrive at greater truths, and that wisdom really matters, and should, therefore, be sought.
