One situation that is a major cause for concern is underground dealings between drug lords and law enforcement, also may include bribes. People can be bribed and put in situations where drug cartels have major influences in that region and law enforcement has most likely been paid off. There is no situation worse for a citizen than lack of protection against drug lords. Racism plays a major role in the drug war as well. “Although rates of drug use and selling are comparable across racial lines, people of color are far more likely to be stopped, searched, arrested, prosecuted, convicted and incarcerated for drug violations than white people are.“ “A proportion of people incarcerated for a drug offense in a state prison that are black or Hispanic, 61 percent” (“Drug War Statistics”2014). This ongoing drug war is not the solution for the safety of our people. People are sadly dying due to the aftermath of a drug deal gone wrong. These violent crimes are something that could easily be avoided. Minorities are being mistreated in regards to law violations, and its causing so much trouble in today’s society.
