We The People Have More Than Two Choices It’s election year. Most people believe that there are only two choices when voting for a political office: Republicans or Democrats. I am here to tell you that they are wrong. There are other choices, and I prefer the Libertarian Party. I believe the Libertarian Party should be promoted to show people that they have more than two options. The Libertarian Party is the only party that leads towards freedom instead of big government. The Libertarian Party is the largest third party in America. Most people don’t even realize that there is a third choice. Most people accept that you have to choose between the lesser of two evils. Four states (Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington) and Washington DC have legalized recreational marijuana. Colorado now has the lowest teen marijuana usage rate of any state. Both ultimately believe the role of government extends well beyond protecting its’ citizen’s liberties. The Libertarian stance is to legalize all drugs and repeal all gun control laws. Libertarians ultimately believe people can take care of themselves and each other without using force through legislation. This year’s Democratic candidate is Hillary Clinton. She has voted in favor for every military intervention done by the United States in modern history. Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, said he would build up our military despite it being larger than the next top ten militaries combined. The Libertarian party would stop all unjustified foreign military intervention. Both major parties are in favor of some form of welfare, social security, and socialized education. When welfare and social security were first instituted, they took up about 10% of the federal budget. Now, they take up nearly half. This rate of growing cost is inevitably unsustainable. When social security was first enacted, sixteen people were supposed to pay in for one person to get benefits in the future. Now, it’s even worse.
