The life of abortion and adoption
When you considered the word abortion and adoption they can bring out different feelings based on people’s perspective. Some would think that abortion is an easier choice because the mother and father do not have the responsibility for a child or for the rest of their lives. From my personal perspective, this is a very bad idea because the mother is taking a life of a child and the procedure could can hurt the women’s body, which could lead to pregnancy challenges in the future. When you discuss the word adoption, some people would consider how long the process might take but would ultimately find gratifications in the process. In several medical cases, couples chose to go through the tough process of

In an article, it says “Doctors considered midwives, who attended births and performed abortions as part of their regular practice, a threat to their own economic and social power.” (Simon & Schuster, Our bodies, ourselves for the new century: a book by and for women). This quote is showing how many of the women got persuaded in to abortion and how some of the doctors back in the day tried to stop this process, they told the midwives that this is a bad idea and they should not be encouraging abortions as part of their business. As well as some women have an abortion because they have the influence of their mother telling them that they should have the abortion because either they are young or can’t afford it so the easy route. The easy way out would be to hire someone who could perform an abortion for a low cost. Some midwife were willing to do it for free in a private location so that no one knows. Along with another quote that says “In the 1990s, antiabortionists increasingly turned to harassment of individual doctors and their families, picketing their homes, following them, and circulating ``Wanted ' ' posters.” (Simon & Schuster, Our bodies, ourselves for the new century: a book by and for women). The quote indicated that back in the day it was still hard for people to understand the abortion laws. As well as some people took the issue to the extreme and truly wanted to get rid of the people who were willing to perform
Abortion has been a heated debate in the United States for decades. Since before the ruling on Roe v. Wade, it is clear that this is an issue that is far from ever being decided upon. Between those who are pro-life and those who are pro-choice, scholars from both sides work on disproving the morality of the other side. With the evolution of abortion laws and regulation through the decades, it is difficult to imagine the United States without conflict pertaining to abortion. Despite pro-life and pro-choice agendas, the country is in ever-changing opinion when it comes to abortion.
Angus McLaren, author of “Illegal Operations: Women, Doctors, and Abortion” demonstrates the life of an abortionist in the late 1800’s to the mid 1900’s. McLaren explains a series of affairs in detail with many different abortionists. Since abortion was illegal at the time, many women consulted midwives, or took the procedure of abortion among themselves, this at times resulted in their death.
Historically, abortion was not regulated in the United States until the 20th century. Prior to the 1900s, abortion occurred regularly and was performed by midwives, along with other reproductive health care procedures (Ehrenreich & English, 2010). The rise of the medical industry and a growing immigrant population led to more interest amongst doctors in restricting abortion (Davis, 1983; Solinger, 2015). The American Medical Association began to lobby for the criminalization of abortion and the medicalization of birth, claiming to be interested in protecting women from the harsh chemicals used to induce abortion (Solinger, 2015). Solinger (2015) writes:
A woman is more than a fetus. Though a woman might be pregnant with a child, she is still her own person and has every right to decide what she wants to do with her body. Many people argue that having an abortion can be emotionally damaging, however, so can abortion. Women develop an emotional bond with a child when they carry it through the full term and go through an experience of delivery. Giving up that child for adoption might be the only reasonable option for a young girl too immature or poor to raise a child. However, that woman has to live with a feeling of abandoning their child for the rest of her life. In my opinion, having an abortion can be psychologically damaging to a woman; however, giving up a child from adoption is a great deal worse.
Abortion and the morality of it has been a hot topic for years in the United States although it has been carried out for centuries in different cultures. Abortion is a medical procedure deliberately terminating a pregnancy. Abortions usually happen within the first 28 weeks of pregnancy and are considered an outpatient procedure. The first abortion laws were passed by Britain in 1803 and by 1880 most abortions in the U.S. were illegal, except for those that were performed to save the life of a woman. This exception to the rule gives insight into the battle that exists today and the ethical debate of abortion.
Abortion is a controversial topic in the world’s culture today. There are two major stances concerning abortion: pro-life or pro-choice. If an individual is pro-life, she recognizes that a baby is a human in the womb and wants to protect the life of the baby. If an individual is pro-choice, she believes the baby in the womb is not alive and the mother has the right to do away with the fetus. Each view has a value judgment on the topic of abortion. A value judgment is a judgment someone makes on the basis of the rightness or wrongness of an issue. Pro-lifers judge that it is morally wrong to kill a human. The majority believe that a baby is a human at the moment at conception so therefore it is morally wrong to kill the baby in the mother’s
Many people throughout history have fought to have the choice to have an abortion if they like. For example cases such as: Roe v. Wade and Parenthood v. Casey, which made a big impact in the system.
Abortion is cruel and outrageous and should not even be illegal. Although the mother and father may have a hard time giving his and her child away to another family, he and she would feel better about their choice to choose adoption. Abortion can leave many mothers and fathers wondering all kinds of questions. Some will wonder “what did my child look like, did they look like me?” “I wonder if the baby was a boy or girl.” “What would my child have done with their life?” “Would they have been a lawyer, judge, doctor, astronaut, etc?” “Would we have been able to give the love and support our child needed from us?” “Would I have been a good mother or father?” Although some of the same questions can be asked when adoption is chosen, but many of these questions can be answered, where with abortion the answer will remain unknown until the end of time.
Many differences of opinion arise in regards to abortion, including the obvious “pro-life or pro-choice” question many people have defiant answers to. Abortion is a topic that most every person has a very strong, firm stance on, resulting in a worldwide debate of the matter. Differences of opinion persist within both movements. “Some pro-life activists may condone abortions in cases of rape or incest, while others take an uncompromising stance, believing that all abortion is murder” (“Abortion”). Most pro-life thinkers state that it is inhumane and immoral to abort a fetus under any circumstance, yet it is very important that the woman has the right to make her own decision based on her situation. If a woman needs to have an abortion, she
“I have also said that anyone who doesn 't feel sure whether we are talking about a second human life should clearly give life the benefit of the doubt. If you don 't know whether a body is alive or dead, you would never bury it.” That was just one quote said by Ronald Reagan on the topic of abortion. He also said, “I 've noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” Many people, like Reagan once was, are against abortion and believe that it is morally and ethically wrong. Likewise, many people, including Alan Dershowitz, support it. Alan has said, “I can 't find anything in the Constitution that says you prefer the life of the mother, or the convenience of the mother if it 's an abortion by choice, over the potential life of the fetus. Look, I think women, if they 're required to not have abortions, could die and could - so I favor a woman 's right to choose.” Abortion has been an extremely controversial topic since the 1960s, and has grown into an even more controversial and sensitive topic as the decades went by. There are two main sides to the argument on abortion: pro-life and pro-choice. People who are pro-life, such as myself, are against abortion, and their argument mainly defends the unborn baby. People who are pro-choice support abortion, and their argument is solely based on the physical, mental, and economic well being of the mother. The controversial topic of abortion has two sides, with the pro-life side
A third argument pro-life advocates have against abortion is regarding adoption. They believe that it is better for a woman to give birth to her baby at term and give it up for adoption than it is to abort it. They say that there are endless numbers of couples in the world that are not able to conceive or it is not safe for the mother to have children, that would be more than happy to adopt. As good as adoption is, the reality is that it can be very hard emotionally for the birth mother. Placing a child up for adoption can be very traumatic. The birth and the surrendering of the child may prompt various phases of grief including shock and denial, sorrow and depression, anger, guilt, and acceptance. Some women may feel it is easier emotionally to terminate a pregnancy in the early weeks while it is only a small bundle of fetal tissue. Going through a nine month pregnancy is a long and taxing process physically, mentally, and emotionally. In another situation, a woman may feel terminating her pregnancy is better than adoption if the father of the child has been abusive and wants to keep the baby. At that point, not only does that put stress on the mother thinking about the future for her child, but also brings more people into the decision, which can cause a lot of strain. Another issue facing adoption is the reality of many babies being born with serious physical and mental handicaps. Many women abort their children after finding out they have some sort of
“Abortion is the spontaneous or artificially induced expulsion of an embryo or fetus” (Abortion, 2002). An artificially induced abortion is the type referred to in the legal context. Abortions happen in different situations. The question comes when is it the right or wrong choice. The root question becomes the moment a fetus becomes a person and entitled to rights. The fetus could be a person at conception, during the pregnancy, or at birth. The deciding moment differs from the Pro-life group and Pro-choice group. After critically analyzing four different arguments about the pros and cons of abortion, one will be able to understand the ethical, moral, and
Choosing to go through an abortion and placing a child up for adoption are quite different matters to analyze. Simply, going through with an abortion is murder by killing a child. Where as, if you were to put a child up for adoption you are giving that child a chance to live. Enduring an abortion may to some people be a convenience; abortion is a quick way of dealing with this problem. Adoption can be seen as a long and grueling process. However, they are both mentally damaging; in both cases the parents, or parent have to give up a child and a life. In some adoption cases some people choose to take back their child; but for others the decision is indefinite. Both situations must be seriously considered and measured.
The choice between adoption and abortion changes millions of lives every day. Some advocates of abortion feel if the mother of the child thinks that she will not be a good parent or thinks she will harm the child, that she has the right to abort the child. Abortion is a life changing decision and has the reputation of being an easy way out of an unwanted pregnancy. Adoption, on the other hand, is one way for a woman who is not prepared to be a parent to provide her child the best life possible without being involved in the child’s life. According to national estimates, one million children in the United States live with adoptive parents and from 2% to 4% of American families include an adopted
Our society is filled with numerous ethical dilemmas. We are consistently bombarded with ethical issues daily. At times, these ethical dilemmas are virtually impossible to unravel. I believe the topic of abortion is one of the most difficult and controversial issues in today’s society. It is also the one people are most passionate about as it continues to be scrutinized by two groups, holding fast to different perspectives; Pro-Life versus Pro-Choice.
