Amusement parks are in the umbrella of the hospitality industry. One of its goals is to provide entertainment for all guests. It has been that way since the beginning and has been advancing ever since. If anyone had to say it the best, it will have to be the father of the amusement parks, Walt Disney. “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy” (GoodReads). He understood that how important amusement parks are, how keeping the original charm that the guest grew to love and advancing that park to make the guests continue to enjoy the park for years to come. Understanding the past, present and future of the amusement park will show how these parks have lasted for years and years.
As the years have gone by there have been some successes in finding articles in the pits, including a small piece of parchment that said vi
The late 1800s and early 1900s saw the creation of the first amusement parks in the United States, resulting from the ability to create mechanical rides due to the industrial revolution sweeping the country. This activity was primarily localized in the state of New York, along the boardwalk of Coney Island, Brooklyn.

In 1903, even before the chocolate factory was completed, Milton Hershey set aside a place for a park to be built for his employee’s for picnics and family outings. It was a water-themed park which featured sea lions, water races, and other rides. Steeplechase Park founded by George Tilyou, was an amusement park that included a racetrack and other amusements like the “Barrel of Fun” and the “Laughing Gallery”. In this amusement park, visitors had fun looking like a fool to random strangers. It was exhilarating to let loose and just laugh. Luna Park was founded by Frederic Thompson and Eric Dundy, and appeared as “a dream city, a mysterious place of play”. Kasson explains Luna Park as a colorful and magical place provided with the abundant use of string lights, which contrasted with the clatter and chaos of the real world. In addition, there were exotic attractions that were inspired by foreign countries like Japan with the Japanese garden and Ireland with the Irish village. Coney Island was a cultural melting pot that provided immigrants and their families “a means to participate in mainstream American culture on an equal footing”. Not only does Kasson explain how Coney Island’s culture was a purge from American norms, but also how immigrants coming into America could utilize this culture to help them understand American culture. Coney Island provided dual opportunities where Americans could experience a wholesome culture, and where immigrants could learn the ways of American culture in a relaxed atmosphere.

The thing that I miss most about summer is King's island. I had a pass so I could go when I wanted to and it was always a fun time. It is a good time to hang out with friends and go on rides. My favorite ride there is the beast because it isn’t too bumpy and it has a ton of sharp turns and caves. It also is slightly scary with all of the fake warning signs. The food at Kings Island is also decent so I wouldn’t have to go get lunch. If I get tired of the rides then I can go on the water rides and the wave pool. The water rides don’t usually have the longest of lines if you get there early but if not then they are worth it. My favorite overall is the Tropical Plunge. This ride has the drop shoot, You stand in a vertical tube and you wait for the countdown and the floor drops underneath your feet. You then shoot down the tube and you make it to the end. All of these factors make Kings Island a very fun place, and the thing that I miss the most from summer.

When Louis Zistel’s small attraction was developed people were brought to the peninsula by steamboat. Later, when George A. Boeckling took over he envisioned a full-scale resort atmosphere with overnight accommodations. Visitors were encouraged to stay at a hotel on the Sandusky Bay while visiting the park. The first hotel, Bay Shore, opened in 1899, followed by The White House two years later (Francis & DeMali Francis, 20). Many other hotels have opened over since then including the historical Hotel Breakers (1905), Sandcastle Suite (1990), Breakers Express (2000), and Lighthouse Point (2001). As time progressed more steamship services were provided along with the development of a roadway connecting the resort to the Sandusky Area. This means of travel continued until 1957, when management partners, George Roose and Emile Legros took over, and opened The Cedar Point Causeway, which is still currently the main means of entering the park (Park
