Within this experiment there are multiple limitations that occurred which could be the result of the hypothesis not being true. One limitation that could have affected the outcome of the experiment is the age of the participants. Most individuals who took the survey stated that they were in their second year of college. That means that most have not reached the legal age to drink, which is twenty-one. If most participants have not been out to bars, or even possibly experienced drinking. With that being said it would be difficult for those participants to answer the scenarios involving drinking. Another limitation is social desirability, what that means is that the participants answered how they think they are expected to answer. Meaning that
In the article “Drinking over the Lifespan” By: Jennifer E. Merrill, Ph.D., and Kate B. Carey, Ph.D. They talk about how many college students drink heavily and experience myriad associated negative consequences. Most college student’s drink, they tend to drink more heavily than their friends who don’t attend college. Many of these drinking patterns have affected many environmental and temporal characteristic specific to the college environment, including residential campus living, the academic week, and the academic year. A study shows that about 41 percent of 18-24 year olds are enrolled in post-secondary education. When teens are emerging into adulthood, they are trying to find out their own identity, which alcohol use might come in while
There is a general feeling that filling in the Drinker Inventory of Consequences an individual responds to a number of events that drinker’s experience. It is a well-crafted strategy that helps to assess the problems caused by alcoholism since it encircles the events within personal life, family relationships, job problems, and financial constraints, problems with the police, belligerence, and others associated with drinking. Although the draft highlights most of the key issues affecting or affected by alcoholism, it also in a small extent invades the privacy of the drinkers. For instance, a person is asked if the sex life is affected by alcohol, change in marriage or love relationships, if a drinker has lost a marriage or a close love relationship. These are supposed to be private/personal issues but are brought up in the survey draft. Consequently, the questions asked are on target for clients
Alcoholism is a prominent substance abuse issue in Western society. The treatment method of controlled drinking as opposed to abstinence is a continuing cause of controversy in alcohol research to this day. The US is different from Europe in its acceptance of controlled drinking as a goal of treatment: “in the US alcohol dependence is typically depicted as a ‘recurring disease’ and the ‘successful abstainer’ as a ‘recovering’ though never ‘recovered’ alcoholic” (Coldwell, 2005). Depending on the alcohol abuse patient’s individual characteristics, either controlled drinking or abstinence is chosen as a treatment.
Presidents of college campuses around the nation face issues of underage drinking and binge drinking on a regular basis and realizes that it is a danger and a problem. “Alcohol consumption is the third leading cause of death in the U.S., a major contributing factor to unintentional injuries, the leading cause of death for youths and young adults, and accounts for an estimated 75,000 or more deaths in the United States annually” (Wechsler 2010). Binge drinking can be loosely defined as consuming five or more drinks at one sitting for men and four drinks for women. Binge drinking amongst college students is a social activity that allows students to let loose and “fit in”.
Binge drinking is one of the third most preventable causing deaths in the United States (McGinnis & Foege, 1993). At the micro level most teens do it to seek acceptance from within their group of peers and we also undergo peer pressure and think they need to drink to be able to be accepted and then at the mid-range level most college males students drink to seek their masculinity from within a friend group. Then once at the macro level different countries with different culture values may drink alcohol more than others even though they may drink more there still is a chance that someone may develop alcoholism.Such things as symbolic interactionism, conflict, and functionalist perspective are all associated with binge drinking
A natural tendency in most people is to push back against those who threaten our freedom in some form or another and college students are no exception. Drinking among college students has always been a tradition (Engs & Hanson, 1989). The point of the experiment was to demonstrate that college students under the legal drinking age will react to raised legal drinking age of 21 and drink more.
“Just now.” Taehyung yawned, letting go of Jungkook’s hand to stretch, his husky voice cracking a little from sleep as he let out a satisfied groan. Jungkook watched his body twisting, his shirt riding up to show smooth skin stretching taut over lean muscle, and couldn't help but reach out to touch. He ran his fingertips down Taehyung’s side and brushing them over the softer skin of his lower stomach, watching the muscles jump and flutter beneath his touch. Taehyung lifted his head to glance at him, eyebrow raised, lips stretched to one side in a lazy smirk, before sitting up, lightly, softly grabbing his wandering hand and holding it in place, hooded gaze flirty and teasing. Jungkook sat back and grinned appreciatively as Taehyung ran a
Cliff sat down next to Jensen watching the other alpha down two whiskey shots in a row. “Slow down alpha, or I’ll be taking you home in about twenty minutes.” Cliff admonished.
The third question in the survey was at what age did the participant start consuming alcohol. With this question I hoped to scope out if most people start consuming before the age of 21. I guessed that at least 50% people would have responses that were younger than 21. The findings of this question would be able to back my topic by showing that there is a large amount of underage drinking. My prediction turned out to be pretty accurate. Out of 100 people only 12 responded that they didn’t start
i realize there are problems and inconvenences in voting: the weather's bad, you have to work, your going out of town, you don't trust the government, you don't like the choice of candadates, and so on.
The quiz of Be Responsible About Drinking added up some more knowledge about alcohol to me, which I didn’t know before attempting this quiz. I excitedly worked on this quiz and some of my answers went wrong. I was very surprised after checking my answers. I lived in Michigan for almost one year. I often purchased beer and Smirnoff vodka from 7-Eleven however, I never noticed the staff’s age. Now, I just came to know that 18 years old may sell or serve alcoholic beverages in Michigan, but may not purchase, consume, possess, or attempt to purchase, consume or possess alcohol. This law doesn’t make any sense to me. I would like to raise my hand to say “bullshit” right now. I mean 18 years is not appropriate to sell the alcoholic beverage.
I understand that, at least for me at the time, drinking was a way of connecting with friends, to socialize with strangers, and to alleviate the shyness. But in hindsight, I noticed there was a change from wanting to needing a drink. It was a way to deal with the tree of work and life itself. Years later now my wife and son are in the picture, I do my best not drink "that much" at home, but still finding a myriad of excuses to do so.
My topic that I research is Alcoholism. This is the number one addiction for people is the US. Most people start drinking because of peer pressure from friends and family. When your drink alcohol there’s a lot of long term effects to your body. You will get liver diseases, Cardiovascular diseases. Your brain cells will die and you will have reproductive problems. You have risk of getting different type of cancers such as mouth, throat and esophageal. If you get esophageal cancer it will make it very difficult to eat because this cancer affect your tube that allows food to go to stomach.
I am typing this essay to explain something about me and it's not much but overall I’m usually quiet and I didn’t really like to talk and I didn’t really have any friends, when I started high school, I didn’t know how to make friends and I never really was a social person, like I did have friends but only a few friends and I never really talked, when I’m with my family I talk a lot and I would spend lots of time with my family and I was really close to my family like I talked to them and I usually would go see my dad’s side of family, I spent lots of time with them but my grandma was sick so I would go see her and visit her every once awhile because my dad would invite us over like we would watch football with them and we would go to movies with my dad like The Man of Steel and World War Z, including Transformers I spent a lot of time at my grandma’s house but that all changed after a while.
