The story The Locket by Kate Chopin is set during the Civil War which began in 1861 and ended in 1865. The story is centered around the theme of separation, lose, suffering and loyalty.

Describe your feelings about the conclusion of "The Locket." Were you surprised by the ending or was it predictable? Depending on your opinion, explain what details in the story either held your suspense or gave away the ending.

The conclusion of the Locket had an amazing plot twist at the end of the short story. The author does a remarkable job at convincing the reader into believing that Edmund was dead and love was lost or perhaps stolen. Reversely, the author does a great in laying bread crumbs through interpretive symbols throughout the story to fully support the return of Octavia’s supposed lost love. Howeverso, the ending seems to have been less suspenseful and more foretelling than revealing.
