Many things caused the 1905 revolution. There were a great number of long-term issues, short-term issues and recent issues that lead to the revolution. There was a large deal of long-term causes of the 1905 revolution. Two of them being the fact that peasants were unhappy with their living conditions and how land was divided up, and the government’s policies to develop industry had negative effects on people, and were hindered by famine and industrial slumps. Peasants were unhappy with their living conditions for a large time, with peasants for a large amount of time being slaves until the emancipation in 1961, in which they were promised land but not given it. Land was not equally spread amongst Russia’s citizens and the nobility held a large amount of land compared to the peasants, even after the emancipation. This led to discontent with the government and its policies from the peasants. The government’s attempts at industrialising Russia also were a long-term cause in the 1905 revolution. 3 officials attempted to industrialise Russia through different methods. The middle class were overall very unhappy with the large amount of power the tsar had and that he did not share it. During this time the tsar was looked to almost as a father figure of the nation, and that he would be helpful to his people. This made the middle class unhappy with his lack of action and discontent. The middle class were also extremely overworked and had no power to change this leaving them even more unhappy with the tsar and his ineffectiveness in handling their
