The short story “The Love Of My Life” by T.C. Boyle's examines two couples who are imagined to be inseparable and how no love comes closer to theirs. The story follows young high school couples who are in the merge of a bright future. They are always together “wearing each other like a pair socks”. They idolized the love they share is something far from real and it is true love. While Jeremy is set to attend Brown and on the other hand China were in Binghamton things took wrong turn. There was a long hesitation, a pause you could have poured all the affirmation of the world into.” Yes,” he said finally, his voice so soft and reluctant it was like the last gasp of a dying old man”. The fact Jeremy hesitated signifies his love for china is in the merge of failing. On the day of her delivery she called Jeremy and he immediately took her to a motel. In a blink of an eye she gave a painful birth but China kept telling Jeremy to “get rid of it” by refusing to assign gender to the new born …show more content…
China and Jeremy with a dream so big and suddenly this huge occurrence disaster in their life made the choice they regret for years to come. “I want to see our daughter’s grave.” That froze him inside. He tried to picture her—her now, China, the love of his life—and he couldn’t. What did she look like? What was her face like, her nose, her hair, her eyes and breasts and the slit between her legs? He drew a blank. There was no way to summon her the way she used to be or even the way she was in court, because all he could remember was the thing that had come out of her, four limbs and the equipment of a female, shoulders rigid and eyes shut tight, as if she were a mummy in a tomb. Jeremy nor China did not want the outcome of the situation. It was unexpected result of in fact this two couple never thought this could happen to them. The fact that they held in their mind a bright future both going to college and finishing what they started at high school, they did not have any alternatives beside
A good man is hard to find is a short story written by, Flannery O’Connor, in which the she describes the story of a family going out for a trip to Florida. No one in the family seemed to believe her, and yet; they all decided to travel. In their way to Florida, the family had a road car accident, in which luckily no one seemed to be killed. While waiting for the family’s car to work back again after the accident, there were three men who came along to ‘help’. One of those three men, was the Misfit. The grandmother suddenly recognizes him, and instead for the grandmother to implore mercy for the life of her family members, she decides to do whatever it takes to save her life. In order to save her live, she tries to brain wash the Misfit by trying to make him believe that he is a good man and he wouldn’t dare to kill her. At the end of the story, the Misfit ends up killing the grandmother.

In T. Coraghessan Boyle’s story “The Love of My Life,” it centers around the teenage relationship of Jeremy and China who claim to be in love with one another and nothing else matters to them. Their relationship; however, is centered around what a relationship is like in movies and based of the physical attraction to each other as well as being naive to what real love is as this is their first real relationship with a significant other. The relationship between the two is great until they encounter their first real obstacle in the relationship when China becomes pregnant. The egocentric nature of both characters takes over and there begins to be cracks within the relationship. Now they face the reality of becoming parents and they blame
This gives the reader a sense of how Jeremy will feel when the baby is born. He does not want someone to come between his relationship and China’s, which is why he refused to view the child as a human. The child is only a threat to him and China’s bond, which is why he thought he did nothing wrong the night of the birth. In two instanced the statement “He tried to picture her, but he couldn’t” came up when Jeremy felt as though he was losing a loved one from them choosing another over him (313). The first time, it was about his mother’s new boyfriend and the second time was when China began to feel terribly for their daughter.
Ultimately, China gives birth to the baby girl, and she immediately tells Jeremy to get rid of it. He does as she says. Boyle

Through this examination of the differences between past and present, wrong and right, and North and South, by Ray West Jr., the different viewpoints and conflicts that appear throughout “A Rose for Emily” are deeply analyzed. West’s critical assessment divides the characters based on who represents the old ways and who represents the changing times. However, the story shows the South’s fervent desire to keep their lifestyle the same. Emily attempted to hold her love for Homer like the South attempted to hold its love for gentile days before the Civil War. West’s asserts that Emily’s fall from grace symbolizes the South’s fall. The deterioration of Emily and the South during reconstruction parallels the slow deterioration of Emily’s house.
Holding Onto the Air an autobiography by Suzanne Farrell takes the reader backstage in the dramatic life of the world-renowned Balanchine ballerina. From her childhood in Cincinnati to her retirement from ballet in 1989, Farrell's story is truly a remarkable one. The book describes at length her time with the New York City Ballet as well as her complex relationship with the legendary Balanchine. Although Mrs. Farrell goes a bit too far into the ballet descriptions, her beautiful imagery allows reader to experience the joy of performing on stage.
The poem “Between the World and Me” by Richard Wright reanimates the horrible scene of a racial lynching and forces the reader to endure the victim's pain through the first person’s narrative voice. The poem contains structured lines and visual division into three stanzas. Moreover, there is one more type of division in the poem. The author uses an ellipsis four times throughout the poem. This punctuation mark frames the poem into the timeline, where the historical past of the African American poet becomes the present experience of any human, despite the race. The climax of the poem is presented in the middle of stanza two. The animated moment, which starts from the sentence “the ground gripped my feet”, dramatically shifts the

The idea of universal love is one that is prevalent in the media. With the news filled with grim stories and horror many people are calling to the idea of loving everyone. Tensions are high concerning race relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation. Many in the general public are calling for humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking “why we can’t just love one another”? Stephen T. Asma tackles this idea of love in his article published in the New York Times. Asma discusses two different ideas about universal love before offering his own take on the subject. Just as Asma states, universal love is a myth and closer personal relationships should be favored.
One of my absolute favor stories to read to my kids when they were younger was Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. The story will defiantly strike at your heartstrings as you read it aloud to your children. I have never been able to make it all the way through the book without crying. Especially after I read an article on how the author Robert Munsch came up with the story.
In the story “On the Oxcart” Xiao Hong has a young girl recount a conversation she heard while on the way to town. The two other people in the cart with her were Sister Wuyun and the carter; all the while the girl pretended to sleep. Sister Wuyun was telling the story of the moment they told her her husband was coming back from war because he became a deserter. She went to the river wharf with her baby to greet him before he received his punishment and a very peculiar and random event happened. While she was waiting for the ship to arrive, Sister Wuyun had thoughts about leaving her baby behind and commit suicide. She explained how at that moment she “felt like putting Little Baldy down on the riverbank and jumping straight to the bottom [of the river]. Just leave that one little life behind; as soon as he started crying, someone would surely come and take him away” (222). To do so she had to make him sleep , but looking at the baby reminded her of her husband who had to arrive at any moment. The second Sister Wuyun set her baby down a “sailing boat came around the riverbed, and when [she] heard
Thirdly, the story also proposes the demonstration of fragility of Jeremy and China’s love. After Jeremy knows that China is pregnant, things have taken a bad turn as “they wrangled and fought and debated, and it was no pleasure [for Jeremy] to see her” (Boyle 141). He also starts debasing her image by thinking that “[s]he was pigheaded, stubborn, irrational” (Boyle 141). After they get carried out of the courthouse, “the last thing he said to her… [was] nothing that had... even the hint of love: ‘you told me to get rid of it’ (Boyle 149). Jeremy’s reactions to China being pregnant are nothing to be expected from a couple who seems to love each other a lot. The arguments between them and Jeremy’s unhappiness when seeing her have shown that their love is now replaced with hatred. Jeremy’s personality also
