I recently saw the movie The Magnificent Seven a western movie that is a remake of a 1960 western movie with the same name. Since I am not your typical western movie fan and did not see the original movie I came into it with a clear mind and enjoyed the movie. After watching it I looked up a review to compare the critics thoughts versus my own.

While searching Google I found a review written on variety.com. The review was written by Owen Gleiberman who is the Chief Film Critic for variety.com. I decided to read this review and see what we found in common and where maybe we differed on our views of The Magnificent Seven. I could see from the beginning that we would have different opinions of this movie as again I have not seen the original. This was apparent when the critic wrote:

When the critic writes about the second hour of the movie basically being an old west martial arts video game(Gleiberman). The writer continues to finish off his review giving the movie a new title “The Adequate Seven”(Gleiberman). I could not disagree more with my thoughts toward the movie. For me it was an enjoyable ride that started off by building up these random cowboys into a team you wouldn’t expect to defeat a man you grow to hate. After reading this review I can appreciate Mr. Gleiberman’s ability to write and describe what he saw while watching this movie. I do feel that Gleiberman’s view on this movie was too affected by the original and was not able to see this movie stand on its own. On the other hand and maybe it is because I have not seen the original The Magnificent Seven or many other Westerns still found this movie to be entertaining, fun, and action packed. I would recommend anyone to watch The Magnificent
