The Maze Runner: An Analysis

The Maze Runner is a book about a society called The Glade, The Glade only gets people and supplies from a metal box in the direct centre of the glade. The Glade is surrounded by a maze that is closes it’s doors at night when the Grievers a creature that is half machine and half animal and the size of a cow comes out at night killing anything it sees. For what the glade was given they have been a good society as most of the time the box doesn't bring up anything but food and water. The Glade has also had to develop rules in the two years that have worked out pretty well to make a system that works everyday. The Glade has lasted through Two years of death, disease, etc.

Journal Entry #1 Chapters 1&2 I chose this book because I thought it would be an interesting read. I have heard good things about the book and how it is one of those titles that will get you hooked. It was recommended to me by a junior who read it for her independent reading book. Text-to-Text: This book makes me think of The Maze Runner because the characters were trapped in a different world from what seems like normal to us.

Thomas, voluntarily saves one of the Glader's who was injured coming back from the maze. Consequently, in the time he saved him, he fails at getting him back home.

Being scared: As you are sent away while you 're young to a mysterious place with no memories of the past. Most things in life cost something, sadly, and in the Gladers case, sometimes the cost they are making is someone 's life. Throughout the story there are examples of people risking their life in order to benefit everyone and the best that can come. Sometimes there are selfish motivations, and sometimes there isn’t, but it 's pretty bad when an innocent person has to die. In the book ”The Maze Runner” by James Dashner, the definition of being scared applies to Thomas as he is being sent away from his family and life to a place called the Glade, through an underground elevator, without any memories of the past. Alby is a dynamic character in the story the Maze Runner. The drastic changes that Alby went through after the Changing are clearly apparent. He is the dynamic character because in the beginning of the story he is nice and also strict and is a leader that manages the Glade. After getting stung by the griever and going through the Changing he becomes very different. He doesn’t want to be the leader and he becomes depressed, crazy and acts differently. It seems like he becomes a whole new person.

The Maze Runner follows Thomas as he finds himself stuck in the Maze. When Thomas first wakes up in the Glade he can’t remember anything from his past, except his name. He is surrounded by a group of boys who quickly fill him in on what they no, which isn’t much. The only thing that is certain is that they have been stuck in the Maze for almost two years, and no one has figured a way out. All of that is about to change when a girl named Teresa arrives.

In the beginning, the main character, Thomas, has his memory wiped so he doesn’t know anything. Over time though, he begins to accept where he is (the Glade) and that the people in the Glade have nothing but each other. Thomas also adapts to the Glade’s slang, and talks like a Glader. He also saves the lives of some Gladers who are his friends, such as Alby. At the end Thomas became a sort of leader, trying to make the best decisions when the rest of the Gladers didn’t know what to do. Thomas talks to the other Gladers like someone would talk to their friends or family, and Thomas does his best to help protect the Gladers. Thomas is hard and cold to the people from WICKED, as at the end one of their workers kills Chuck, one of Thomas’s

Thomas is the narrator and protagonist of the story. He arrives in the maze with no knowledge of who he is or was. He only remembers his name and nothing else about his life. Thomas proves to be brave and clever even though he only has a very limited memory of previous knowledge of the Maze. Since arriving in the maze, Thomas makes both friends and enemies and proves to be a leader among the other boys with him in the maze.

The Maze Runner reflects concerns for our current society because in the movie the creators who have lots of power take control over the teenagers by technology. They wash the memory out of their brains and then send them up into a maze, which is an experiment to find a cure to the flare (a deadly disease). This concerns us because since the higher ranking people have the most power, with the new and improved technology they could take control of everyone to benefit them self.

The famous book The Maze Runner by James Smith Dashner, is the famous story about a young man named Thomas who wakes up in the middle of a metallic box that serves as an elevator with no memory of his past, the box opens up to a place called “the Glade” with 60 other boys staring back at him as he tries to run away pass them. Every thirty days a new boy or supplies arrive from the box and for three years they have lived together trying to find clues through the maze that surrounds them; but as they start losing hope it all changes when something unprecedented happens and a girl along with a note arrive through the box. The book along with amazing imagery and relevance to today’s world manages to attract more than just teenagers but anybody that is up for the challenge of the maze, and that is just the purpose of this paper to demonstrate multiple reason of why this book not only deserves to be read but it should hold a place in the literary canon.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner is about a group of people who are stuck in the Glade and and have to go through a deadly maze to get out. One theme in The Maze Runner is “Working together gets things done faster and better.” The story demonstrated this theme by showing the Gladers working together to escape the Maze. Another theme is, “Sacrifice is worth it in the end.” This theme was demonstrated by showing the Gladers make sacrifices to help each other survive.

The title The Death Cure, seems almost oxymoronic, falsely true. From the first book, The Maze Runner, it seems like WICKED is desperately searching for a cure that could possibly prevent the extinction of the human race from the Flare. Mainly, The Death Cure is focusing on the cure to the disease. But as we read on, it seems like there was never a cure, but death. The cure looks like it could be letting everyone who has been infected, die while the immunes get to start over. WICKED should have been searching for a way to stop the spread of the disease instead of finding a cure for death, which has been their main problem.

The terrifying nature of freedom causes individuals to assimilate into society out of fear. Societies thus take advantage of this by oppressing individuals to maintain stability. In George Orwell’s 1984, which is based on a rundown city called Oceania, the proles always accept everything that the party tells them without any questions. They let the government completely control their lives without hesitation. The Maze Runner by James Dashner also exhibits oppressive environments and individuals who accept these societies. In the Maze Runner, the people in the maze are all trapped in a maze, limiting where they can go and what they can do. Both 1984 and The Maze Runner exhibit the oppressive nature of society and how accepting to be controlled

The Maze Runner can relate to us because it’s a problem within our society today because now days we basically give up so fast without thinking about the solution, The government controls us and lastly technology can take us anywhere in this world. The novel was just trying to inform us that if we have hope it can take us anywhere. I

The Gladers show this by being in a tough situation, but making the most of what they have to exit the maze. Thomas, Theresa, and the rest of the Gladers could have given up when they began being attacked, but they made the most of it to make it out alive. Also this is shown when the rebels come and save the day. On page 361 when the rebels take the opportunity to save the Gladers they say, “Just follow me and run like your life depends on it. Because it does.” This part of the book allows the rebels to take their opportunity and save the Gladers.
