Aides spend many hours standing and walking, and often face heavy workloads. Because they may have to move patients in and out of bed or help them stand or walk, they must guard against back injury. Aides may also face hazards from minor infections and major diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis, but can avoid infections by following proper procedures. Most L.P.N.’s work a 40-hour week, but because patients need around-the-clock care, some work nights, weekends, and holidays. They often stand for long periods and help patients move in bed, stand, or walk. They also face hazards from caustic chemicals, radiation, and infectious diseases and also are subject to back injuries when moving patients. In addition, the patients they care for may be confused, irrational, agitated or uncooperative.

Assisting – At the request of the service user, opening bottles and packets; removing lids; popping pills out of packages when the service user cannot physically do this and has asked the care worker to help with that specific medicine; shaking bottles.

Every year, an estimate of 5.9 million people dies from disease (World Health Organization, 2016). Some of these diseases are caused by bacteria, parasites, virus, trauma, mutations, and environment. Although these diseases can cause death and injury, in many cases, they can be treated by a specialist called a physician. A physician is a person who is qualified to practice medicine. Often, these medical specialists need help in treating large numbers of patients in need of care. In the 1960s, the physician assistant (PA) profession was created.in 1965, there was a noticeable shortage of physicians. Eugene A. Stead Jr., MD, of the Duke University Medical Center assembled the first class to take on the role as physician assistants. These men received medical training in fast track manner to what a physician might learn (Academic Academy of Physician Assistants Organization, 2014).The duties of a physician assistant are similar to what a physician may carry out but differ in some ways. Today, the physician assistant profession is a growing field, but more difficult to achieve. Recently, there has been an increase in the amount of school time and pre requisites to be accepted into a physician assistant graduate program. Specialization of a particular field is even more difficult to achieve. In addition, work environments can be often challenging. However, high salaries and benefits of working in the medical field give reward to the employee.

According to the U.S News & World Reports, physician assistant rank number four on the ranking of best jobs of 2016. Why? It is because the unemployment rate is 0.2 percent. This is very low compared to national unemployment rate of 5.0 percent as of September, 2016 (Bureau of Labor Statistic, 2016). One of the factor accounted in this is because due to the vast population of United States of approximately 300 million people. With a tremendous number of people, there will also be a tremendous amount of health problem related as there are correlation relationship between peoples’ health and jobs. As a result, half of Unites States fastest growing jobs will be in health care. In addition, American life expectancy has increased drastically from 50 to 80; also, advance medical technical to help with serious chronic treatment helped contribute to this job growth (Anne and Victoria, 2012, Pg. 9).

Healthcare assistants (HCAs) work within hospital or community settings under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional. As a healthcare assistant, it would be my duty to look after the patient when they are at the hospitals. My duties would include,

It is my responsibility as your supervisor to ensure you are assisting to be a better assistant but it is also your responsibility. If you are available take the initiative and find a provider to assist. Do not wait to last minute to find out how to assist a provider in endo, prosh, oral surgery or other area within the dental assistant duties. A Soldier that is cross trained in many areas of the clinic sends a positive message to everyone. It makes you a better Soldier and prepare you to be a better future leader.
