The medical field is rapidly growing with so many different careers to choose from. There are many different things that you could specialize in. There are so many opportunities in the medical field for you to grow and become something bigger. A very interesting field to go in is a pediatric nurse. This specific career path interests me because when my little brother was 5 years old he suddenly woke up one morning with his body completely swollen. We immediately rushed him to the hospital. While at the hospital they told us that he had Nephrotic Syndrome. His kidneys weren’t properly working and he was leaking excess protein in his urine. They must always maintain privacy and confidentiality in a nurse/child relationship. They should also differentiate between normal and abnormal physical findings and serve a child advocate. Nurses must also participate in activities to help manage the child’s pain and analyze any situations to anticipate pathophysiological problems and detect any changes in the status. Pediatric nurses may also administer medication while using an age- appropriate guidelines and determine the child’s needs related to pain management. One of the last general tasks is, that a nurse must evaluate a child for signs and symptoms of abuse and provide as much supportive care as possible to dying children. In addition to nursing knowledge and practical skills, pediatric nurses must also have the ability to form rapid connections with their juvenile patients. Most children are often scared to go to the doctor, so the pediatric nurse needs to be able to gain the child’s trust and to be able to dispel the fear that the child might have. You must also be able to remain calm under pressure and be a quick thinker, and also be able to smile through the most stressing situations because children can tell when an adult seems worried. In order to become a pediatric nurse, you must first become a registered nurse (RN) and earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at an accredited-four-year college.
