In the case of the missing microchip, the guiding question was, who stole the microchip? Orin, Anna, and I’s claim was that Doug the coffee man stole the missing microchip. Doug was our man because of a couple reasons. First, near the crime scene, investigators found sugar from the coffee shop that Doug worked at on the floor. Not only that, but Doug had the easiest access to the chip out of all the suspects. Doug’s car was parked right next to the window of the office that held the chip. Lastly, Doug lied about the arrival times of everyone. To justify our evidence, Doug was the only person that could have had the sugar. Also, no one else had access into the building like Doug did. Finally, Doug lied about arrival times stating that no one
On April 13 at approximately 10:00pm Rupert and Rupina Clodhopper returned home to find their back patio door had been broken into. The police questioned them about the $10,000 in jewelry the kept in a wall safe. They said only six of their employees, Mike, Bob, Chris, Mary, Susan, and Jessica, knew about it. The police evidence technician team found broken glass and a glove with blood on it. The glass was from the glass window pane of the patio door. Each employee was then asked about their whereabouts during the time of the robbery and to give blood samples. The purpose of this lab is to find out who broke into the Clodhoppers home by testing the blood samples from the employees and the glove. Analysis:
In furtherance of the conspiracy, the defendants made a series of purchases on the following dates. On November 23rd, 2013, defendant Gonzalez attempted to buy cartons of cigarettes that totaled 128 dollars via counterfeit access devices. On March 6, 2016, Gonzalez and Pierre-Charles drove to a convenience store and bought items totaling 527.26 dollars via the counterfeit access device. Following, on March 20th the defendants Durandis and Gonzalez traveled to another convenience store in Berks County, Pennsylvania making a purchase that totaled roughly 1,915.73 dollars via the use of the access devices (United States of America v. Robert Durandis, et al, 2014). A week later, on March 27th it was discovered that within a vehicle driven by defendants Durandis and Charles it contained a fraudulent New York driver’s licenses, an expired Pennsylvania id card, 80 cartons of Newport cigarettes, and over 250 counterfeit access devices (United States of America v. Robert Durandis, et al,
At nine AM a monday morning, John Lee was discovered dead in the CCA Lab Prep room by Professor Allan. What makes John Lees death even more surprising is that no fingerprints were found, but luckily fiber and biological evidence was found at the crime scene. Other than the fiber and the biological evidence that were found at the crime scene, the license and registration information of the vehicles that were at the CCA campus the night of the murder where determined. At the moment there were five suspects, that could have been the murders of John. These suspects include Brandy Smith, Sergio Jones, Bill Apple, Ann Smith, and Amanda Martinez. Brandy Smith alibis would be the Harkin employee that remembers seeing Brandy crying at the end of the
During the investigation, two cups were sitting on the table. One cup with Ray’s name and another with Max’s name. After testing the pH levels of the beverages it was revealed that Ray’s cup had a regular pH level and Max’s beverage had a high basic level (Forensic Report). There was no blood at the crime scene so it could have been possible one of the suspects tampered with Max’s drink. Since in Ray's testimony states he “found the body at 2:55” and “called to the others at 3:00” (Suspect Case File) there five minutes of time in his alibi for question of what he was doing. After testing the fingerprints on Ray and Max’s cup it was revealed that Ray’s fingerprints were found on Max’s cup (Forensic Report). After careful consideration of both pieces of evidence it is quite clear Ray did in fact touch Max’s cup. Which could have resulted in the cups having different pH levels. In conclusion, there were strong pieces of evidence which are tied to Ray, which makes him guilty of the murder of Max
Lastly we are going to talk about the hard evidence. At the scene the investigators found brown felt pen scribbled all over a napkin. They never really thought anything about it till they found the brown felt pen in his pocket. So it connects him to being at the scene. There was also a letter found in the trash can that was signed by Ray. But the problem with the letter is that I was written in Dez Tenny’s handwriting. So with that letter it could mean that Ray was not in it
People who watch these shows are used to seeing scientists emerging from their lab with concise who, how’s and whys from their collection of evidence. In reality it isn’t this simple. Prosecutors in this case could only make an educated guess or surmise from
Throughout this case, many pieces of evidence came up “missing” and many other people who should have been suspects went without being questioned at all. For example, a problem arose at a local Bojangles, the same night of the murders. The manager working at the time called the police, reporting that a black man had stumbled into the restaurant. He was bleeding and mumbling the manger said, and instead of a report being filed, the working officer found it would be much more convenient for her if she just
Monday not long after arriving at the office SAC Mark Pro received a phone call concerning assistance from the GBI for a death in Adel. CSS Kellyn Wilkes was the CSS on call. The other intern “Olivia” and I rode with CSS Wilkes to the scene. Upon arrival, we were still waiting on a search warrant before entering the house. However, since pictures are always taken before entering a house in death investigations we took pictures from different distances as well as vehicles on the property before entering the residence. Additionally, DNA swabs were taken before entering the home as well. I watched and observed as evidence was obtained and as the residence was searched. Afterward, evidenced was logged into an online database and left with the Adel Sherriff department.
Now a day’s evidence can change a person’s life in the blink of an eye. “People were often punished for crimes based on the word of one or two individuals, with little concern given to sorting out the truth of the affair” (Hunter 12). But today a person must be tried and some physical evidence is needed in order for a person to be convicted of a crime.
When the interview started, Darnel stated that he was just left the court house and he was just walking down Pinelog Road. I asked Darnel did he go to the general direction of Barn Oak Court and he stated no. I exited the room and acquired the finger print cards that were lifted from the scene. I then relocated back to the interview room and asked Darnel were these his finger prints that were left on the window seal. Darnel advised me that they were not his and I left the interview room. When I left the interview room, Darnel took a tissue and wiped the dirt off his shoes and placed it back in the tissue box. Darnel then started to lick his finger and bite on his fingertips. I reentered the room and confronted Darnel about the acquisitions. I collected the tissue box and Darnel shoes. Darnel stated that he would tell me what really
All available physical evidence is handled competently. Evidence will be recorded and processed correctly and inside the law procedures.
Mary Maloney is a pregnant wife of a police officer. Her husband came home one day and told her something sad. She ended up killing him. But for whatever reason got away with it. She came up with a smart alibi that proved she was innocent. And the police officers believed it. Mary was smart “she carried the meat into the kitchen, placed it in a pan, turned the oven on high, and shoved it inside. Then she washed her hands and ran upstairs to the bedroom. She sat down before the mirror, tidied her hair, touched up her lips and face. She tried a smile. It came out rather peculiar, she tried again. She rehearsed it several times more.”(Roald 14) Mary thought fast after she killed him because “as the wife of a detective, she knew quite well what the penalty would be.” (Roald 13) If it wasn’t for Mary’s alibi, none of this would have been believable.
new advancements such as microchip implant for humans and animals can be very controversial. At first, the implants may seem to have benefits but in the long run they will actually cause more trouble than they are worth. These potential "troublemakers" are about the size of an elongated grain of rice and are injected in the skin under the arm or hand (Feder, Zeller 15). The chip is not powered by battery and there is nothing that can possibly leak out into the body (Posada-Swafford 8). An early form of this technology was used to monitor salmon and has been used for other wildlife research (Verhovek 5). The idea of the chips was started from the September 11 tragedy
In recent years, the field of biomedical engineering has been growing and gaining significant importance all across the world. Scientists have been striving to find cures to some of the most potent diseases of this modern world and looking to find methods of assisting the many people struggling with various types of disabilities. A newly rising technology in biomedical engineering is the Human Body on a Chip, or Organ on a Chip. The Organ on a Chip is a multi-channel 3-D microfluidic cell culture chip that stimulates the activities, mechanics and physiological responses of entire organs and organ systems. At first glace these chips don’t look like anything more than very thin pieces of plastic, but when filled with cells from
In my opinion, the investigators must apply the scientific method in every one of the investigations that they do. The investigators must take all the information into their minds and ask themselves what happened, how did it happen, and why did this crime happen. Once the investigator comes up with the answers then will conduct experiments to see if their idea was the ultimate conclusion of what happened.
