The Model Philosophy and Objectives
Learning math skills is critical for establishing a foundation for success in mathematics. The model intends to promote and develop students’ mathematical skills and knowledge. Also, the model is designed to build a strong mathematical foundation for students. As students have individual differences, the model employs several learning theories to meet students’ learning needs and achieve their potential in mathematical skills. Thus, the model relies on the progressivism philosophy and multiple intelligent theories. In addition, there are some goals have been taking into consideration when designing the model which includes the following:
1- Promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills
The model attempts to develop students’ creativity learning which requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Thus, the model emphasizes the use of a hands-on and cooperative learning experience in the process of addition, subtraction, and interpreting data to improve decision-making skills. For instance, students encouraged to use real objects to practice addition and subtraction by adding to, taking from, putting together, and taking apart. Then, they will be
“Proving a child has been adequately educated is manifest through assessments evaluating the recall of facts or the deciphering of codes. How this information is taught and learned is the issue" (Ellis, "Introducing The Creative Learning Principles: Instructional Tasks Used To Promote Rhizomatic Learning Through Creativity"). According to the methods of Bloom’s taxonomy creativity is a higher-order thinking process. The use of technology in a classroom setting allows higher-order thinking processes, such as communication, the ability to synthesize information and creativity, to become the focus of teaching and learning rather than instructional strategies. The opportunity to harness this higher-level thinking will produce a generation with the abilities needed to problem-solve and create a better world for
In this particular class we had been drilling specific type of problems and they teacher wanted us to do it their way. This caused many issues for several if not most of the student in the class, because not everyone’s mind processed and worked things out the same way as the teacher. Thus several students’ had questions on the material. Instead of elaborating upon it in a different way, the teacher explained it again, and again using the same method. Now when the quiz rolled around many kids had deciphered the method and began to understand it. I was fortunate to be one the kids who understood it, but instead I made a hybrid between something that would work for me and method forced upon us; yet despite me showing my work as well as the correct answers I received a D+ why?; because I didn’t follow the method exactly. Even organizations’ that America and even the world hold high in esteem have found a lack of creativity. “NASA and Boeing are finding that recent graduates can technically render in two dimensions but can no longer think in three.” The Creativity Crisis: Why American Schools Need Design, published in The Atlantic, then goes on to state, “Ideal job candidates at these companies must now show they can ””think with their hands”” by having expertise or a second major in a musical instrument, auto repair, or sculpture.”. These passages show the importance of creativity is in the real world, and that
This program is appropriate in a diverse, 4th grade general education classroom. The modules are made up of “Topics” and “Lessons” that are aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Each module provides the foundational standards needed for the lessons (i.e. CCSS from the previous grade), as well as the focus grade level standards. The first module introduces concepts which are then spiraled within the next module’s focus. While the modules are thematic and based on each mathematics domain (base ten numbers, geometry, fractions, data, algebraic thinking), some standards are seen across topics and lessons. Each lesson has allocated time to four major components: fluency practice, concept development, application problems, and student debrief.
Creativity is all about the 21st century skills and the future students. One form of creativity they will use is brainstorming. It includes elaborating, analyzing refining, and evaluating ideas to improve and maximize creative efforts (Syrett, 2002). Creativity involves originality, and working with peers to come up with ideas. It will allow you to fail and work on what went wrong and recreate it. They will have the tools that are needed to be creative. Creativity is an important aspect for every student to
The first idea, “I’m just not a math person," thinking this make you think you 're not capable of doing math. The negative pushes you thinking and your brain creates that idea of you 're not a math person. As example share in the article about Terence Tao, who is really good at math, but he 's good at because he has “ hard work, preparation, and self-confidence” which everyone born with. It all about teach your self discipline about what your capable of doing. As of that are “people’s belief that math ability can’t change becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, ' ' they form an idea that they cant be good at math. Just because on person is good and other is not that doesn 't mean the person who got B on the test isn 't a math person, they just think that. The second idea is “ Incremental orientation believe ability (intelligence) to be malleable” meaning you have the effort to increase your intelligence but “Entity orientation”, which are believe to be nonmalleable who don 't have ability to put effort and increase their intelligence. This creates your smart or you 're not smart at all, theres no middle. But the student are in charge of their intelligence level, its up to them to change how they think and what things influence their decision of that push of hard work. As if someone can learn how to do math but putting in work they can “learn to do anything”.As people don 't see handwork pays they will if you do math, if you math it will show you, if you work hard enough you
In Language Proficiency and Mathematical Learning article explains about how important mathematics is to success for every student. It gives an explanation of how important is language when learning mathematics. It also explains about the achievement gap that exists between native language students, from foreign student due to language barriers. “Finding from recent studies suggest that peoples arithmetic processing in the brain is shaped by
As the focus of math changes students are asked to develop their mathematical thinking rather than their calculating. “While math traditionalist are correct that it is beneficial to memorize formulas, facts, and algorithms, the math reformists emphasize the need for students to have avenues such as journals, portfolios, or projects to demonstrate their understanding” (Kostos & Shin 2010). In math it is difficult to encourage students to think critically when many students, teachers, and administrators are drawn to the idea of right verse wrong. In mathmatics many hold tight to the idea that there is one correct answer and one way to get to the correct answer and that’s it; parents and teachers were taught mathematics just like this. Now with the focus changing we have students who are challenged to look at math differently. The focus of looking at mathematics as critical thinking, number manipulation, reflection and strategy has been hard for many to grasp. It is important that students are challenged to critically think and problem solve so they are capable of transferring their learning to new and different situations. Students must have the ability to problem solve and apply their thinking because as our world changes and technology gets more advanced we can no longer predict the situations our students will be in. Teachers must encourage critical thinking, so students are ready to enter an ever-changing
The MODEL Program will contribute to advance mentoring programs for youth with the most need that: (1) helps these kids in getting support and direction from a guide; (2) enhances the civic and scholastic participation of the youth; (3) enhances interpersonal connections between the youth and their associates, instructors, adults, and relatives; (4) diminishes the youth dropout rate from schools; (5) decreases adolescent misconduct and participation in gangs; (6) and enhances youth career goals and employment through network of computer science education.
Learners need to be cognitively and physically active in the learning of mathematics (Baturo, A ….) which can be achieved through the combination of the use of tools to engage learners and improve their learning out come and the language and discussions had that reinforce and remind students of overarching aim in the discovery of the appropriate methods use in a particular context. The significance in the development and understanding of the links between these two key methods Is also highlighted in the language model, stressing that all pedagogical
Many educators will argue what makes an effective teacher and how that correlates with the function of the classroom. When we talked about how to be an effective teacher we discussed three components, teaching through problem-solving and selecting appropriate tasks, creating appropriate environments and using appropriate interventions. In my field experience, I was able to observe these three effective mathematics teaching components and understand how they apply to the classroom. After leaning about these components, I was then able to use them in my personal experience and see how they
Mathematics widens the mind to think critically. It is more than measuring, counting and computing. It opens up other subjects- sciences. As far as Mathematics teaching is concerned, the major goal is the involvement of the students in the practice of realizing mathematical ideas and framing process. One of the encouraging worries about learning Mathematics is the point that it opens up the mind to solve problems that require radical order rational skills. These complications and puzzles provoked the curiosity and challenge the inventiveness of individuals. Giving problem solving into the class improves students’ skills and their ability to reason prudently, rationally and creatively. Hugar criticizes the things we might consider about a mathematics class are processes, equations, and word problems, of which learning them, a student has to master to solve problem. Therefore, in the last decades there has been a move to approach the teaching of mathematics through solving of problem. In this paper, I have written my autobiography on mathematics.
In today’s society mathematics is a vital part of day-to-day life. No matter what a person is doing at home or at the workplace, he/she is constantly using different mathematics skills to simply function. Then what does this mean for mathematics education? When someone needs to utilize a skill every day then he/she needs a strong background in the skill. Therefore, today’s students need more than a just a working knowledge of mathematics or enough knowledge to pass a test. Today’s students need to understand how mathematics works and how to utilize mathematics skills in the best way possible.

Mathematics is the one of the most important subjects in our daily life and in most human activities the knowledge of mathematics is important. In the rapidly changing world and in the era of technology, mathematics plays an essential role. To understand the mechanized world and match with the newly developing information technology knowledge in mathematics is vital. Mathematics is the mother of all sciences. Without the knowledge of mathematics, nothing is possible in the world. The world cannot progress without mathematics. Mathematics fulfills most of the human needs related to diverse aspects of everyday life. Mathematics has been accepted as significant element of formal education from ancient period to the present day. Mathematics has a very important role in the classroom not only because of the relevance of the syllabus material, but because of the reasoning processes the student can develop.
Second, the present research confirms that students’ subsequent learning goals to correct misunderstandings and to extend learning is important to students’ success in math. This suggest that mathematics teachers need to give students frequent opportunities to set personal goals based on their difficulties. However, it is not enough that the teacher asks students to set goals, but there should be a follow
