Maria Montessori Introduction Maria Montessori left a lasting mark on the education system all over the world (Montessori & Gutek, 2004). Philosophers consider her as one of the most popular as well as accomplished educator of her time. Many universities and schools today study and utilize her philosophies and techniques. Her life involves a story of a remarkable achievement and perseverance. Maria Montessori considered the concept of teaching children to explore the world through the use of the five common senses as well as extending the input to thought to be the most invaluable asset to children's learning. She claimed that it is through manipulation and movement of senses that children can gain knowledge of abstract thought, language, and problem solving skills, critical thinking, independence, math skills, discipline and practical life skills (Montessori & Gutek, 2004). The idea of Montessori regarding sensory education included activities which would require the children to tune into their senses for the purpose of heightening their intellectual abilities (Lillard, 2011). When the children use their five senses, they participate actively in their education making them absorb knowledge through their environment. Through this analysis, language as well as abstract thought developed significantly in children.
