Survival is a thing everyone has and does. You in fact are surviving rightnow and your doing it by using your head and your smarts. This is not much different in The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. Rainsford has to do what we do and survive except it's just harder for him because he is being hunted by a crazed serial killer. The short story “The Most Dangerous Game’ by Richard Connell suggests that no matter what situation your in you need to outwit your opponent. To begin, the main character Sanger Rainsford is being hunted by General Zaroff. In attempt to outsmart Zaroff, Rainsford walked in circles, overlapping his previously made footsteps each time. This scene shows how Rainsford is using his intelligence to stay alive and win. Next, Connell uses thoughtshots to show how nervous Rainsford is and how hard he's trying to not lose his mind. An example of thoughtshots is when Rainsford states “Nerve, I can’t lose my nerve” Rainsford says this to himself many times while being hunted by Zaroff. To follow up, something that is against Rainsford but also for him is the setting. This short story takes place on “Ship-Trap” island, a seemingly deserted island where Zaroff catches all of the human prey he hunts. The island being a jungle helps Rainsford because he can bait Zaroff with traps or muddy footprints to trick Zaroff. All in all Rainsford makes a difficult trail in order to outwit Zaroff.
