I can be characterized as being many things and the three most important being industrious, decisive, and tenacious. All of these characteristics have allowed me to get to where I am and are the drivers in my daily life. They continue to help me grow as a person, in my career, and in my relationships. I believe that the struggles that I have faced have fueled me and made me the industrious, decisive and tenacious person I am today. I am the oldest of five children and have had to take on the many responsibilities that come along with being the first born. I believe that my industriousness started to shape up the minute my first sibling was born. Life isn’t easy for any family with five children, much less for a family with parents that came here from another country. Growing up, the only way I could get the latest and greatest of anything was by working for it. At the age of 15, a year after my parents both our first house, I decided it was time to start helping the household since all of my parents’ money now went to our mortgage. One of my mother’s friends, Dina, owned her own office-cleaning business so for weeks I begged her to let me join her team. She reluctantly agreed and would pick me up, after I finished my homework, and we would head out on our journey from San Jose to Palo Alto. We cleaned private medical offices that were much fancier than anything I had ever been in. We scrubbed the toilets, took out the trash, cleaned dirty coffee mugs and then headed home
As a senior at Red Cloud High School, I’m a member of National Honor Society, captain of the cheer squad, lifeguard, swimming instructor, and part-time employee at the local grocery store. I’ve come to learn from a young age that money doesn’t grow on trees. When growing up, it was just my mother and I. While living on her single parent income, I learned money doesn’t grow on trees. My mother worked a minimum wage job, facing financial struggles at times. Her willpower drove her to get the job she has today. My mother married, and I have a little brother now. As his big sister, I always wanted to be someone he could look up to. At the age of fifteen I became a lifeguard at the community pool. The next year I took classes to be a certified Water Safety Instructor, so I could teach swimming lessons to local children. That same year I applied at the local grocery store, to have a job during the school year.
The one I identified with the most was the tenth characteristic in which Lake and Baeyer talked about time management. I find that this attribute is valuable to me because of how I have used it in the past. Managing
Each of us possess personal characteristic strengths that makes each of us unique. As individuals these strengths allow us to add value to all of our relationships both personally and professionally. For many of us, we can recognize the characteristics and how they add value to lives, unfortunately though many of us will struggle voicing these strengths openly during job interviews, performance evaluations, or team meetings. One of the first challenges is to understand that we are all lifelong learners and it is through these experiences that we develop these strengths which allows us to become an essential part of a relationship whether it is a personal or professional relationship. As within the realm of a Human Resource Professional the ability to recognize these strengths in people we must also recognize them within ourselves so that we may leverage those skills to advocate for both the employee and the organization. Throughout my life, my strengths have tended to gain more clarity and centered on my profession because form many of the majority of our time is spent there. Some of my personal characteristics that will bring value and strength to any organization are: organization, communication, the ability to be discrete and ethical, conflict management/problem solving and change management. As in many organization HR management requires a very orderly approach. Throughout my
One of them being conscientiousness. Conscientious people are very driven and orderly. They set goals and firm plans to achieve these goals. Rarely are they spontaneous or disorganized. My score within the Big Five Personality Profile was moderate for conscientiousness. I would say that I do exhibit some of these characteristics. I can be very organized and reliable. As a weakness, I find that I am not always a self-starter. I will set goals and stick to them, but need that push from others to get started. For instance, I was given the opportunity to work on an exciting new project at work that involves direct feedback from employees that I would personally deliver to upper management. This would be a big responsibility as I would be representing hundreds of employees and voice the current concerns of our group. I was asked to think it over. While processing the position, three others volunteered and I lost out of the opportunity. I took my time and wasn’t as organized in my decision making, therefore I missed out greatly.
Once we moved farther into the country my brothers and me became older and more capable of helping my dad on the farm with chores. So it was in these early years where were learn a work ethic. With having all the cows we did my dad did need help. For me being the youngest I didn’t have to help as much as my brothers. I spent more time helping my mom around the house with things she needed help with. But my dad always made sure I got my hands dirty in the corrals, which I can see helped me with just being able to do manual labor with no problems, and also made me a very observant learner from watching my dad do things
My grandfather had a work burdenedburndoned childhood. He started helping out around the farm when he turned five, which resulted in him valuing work over everything. As a kid, he rarely
I realized from a very young age that hard work would always produce an exuberant reward. While growing up my parents gave me copious opportunities to earn money by doing chores and projects. Every time I earned money for taking out the trash or feeding my dog, my mother would lecture me to save it. I would never listen, and instead I would squander it on the first soda or chocolate bar that crossed my path. One of the most memorable moments in my lifetime was when I got my first job working at Subway®. It wasn’t the best job, but it made me feel self-sufficient. The weekend after I received my first paycheck, with the assistance of my mother, I went and opened a savings and checking account at our local bank. My mother expressed to me that it is important
Have you ever wondered what three character traits would describe you? In our own words would you describe yourself differently they your friends and family. If I had to describe myself in three ways I would say I’m athletic, intelligent, and faithful.
When I was a young child, my parents were both hard working individuals. My mother worked in the custodial department at a center for the developmentally disabled and my father was a self-employed handyman. I frequently spent time with both parents while they were at their jobs and from an early age I had a good understanding of what they did for work. My mother’s work looked hard and dirty, and I hated cleaning as a kid so I knew that line of work probably wasn’t going to be a life dream for me. The one thing I enjoyed about going to my mom’s work was getting to interact with the clients. The interactions with the clients allowed me to learn about disabilities and from a young age, taught me that everyone is different. In regards to my dad’s line of work, I loved going to jobs with him and working on projects in the garage. For that reason, I think that is why I complete tasks with great precision and have creative attributes.

I have to admit that I was skeptical in completing the personality profile. I thought, “How could a few questions determine everything about my management style”. When I received my results, I was astonished at how accurately those results portrayed my personality. While deciding which of my personality traits were advantageous and which were detrimental to my management style, I became conflicted as all of my scores can be portrayed as both positive and negative depending on the situation.
There are many personal characteristics that can affect a person as an individual and his professional success, namely openness, ability to learn and adapt etc. These personal characteristics can sometimes make a person successful and sometimes doesn’t. As I spend more and more time as a professional, I perceive that there are few characteristics that are essential for professional success: namely ambitious, creative and adaptable. These characteristics come out in many different ways. Have you set your goals? Have you decided the path you have to take to pursue your goal? What are the sacrifices you can do to achieve your ambition? How much can you think out of the box to resolve a particular issue or bring new idea to the table? How
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
Over the course, I have learned that all people are unique and have their own personal traits and qualities. One person does not just simply fall into one category, but various categories. What is beautiful about all of us is that we all have diverse personalities, traits and qualities. I have learned that we should be proud of and embrace these unique qualities of ours.
Without being redundant, three of the personality characteristics that I pride myself in possessing are as follows:
