The Motley Crue: A Heavy Metal Band

Phish has inherited the legacy of the Grateful Dead. A responsibility that includes: playing a different set every night, constant jamming and experimenting. Phish is trailed across the country by adoring fans that think their heroes can do no wrong. What makes them so special is that their music winds together. It is full of freedom and happiness. Their lyrics are totally original; they have this weird way of looking at the world and when they express this in their songs it takes you to a whole different level of thinking.

Have you ever turned on the radio in your vehicle and heard an out rageous rock song? Yeah that’s right it’s Def. Leppard. They have been tour and doing shows for twenty five plus year and still jamming as we speak. This band has been through just about everything you could think of and surprisingly they are still together after drug over dose, care accident, and divorcees.

Metallica is considered one of the first metal bands of the early eighties. They are a part of the big four, the other three include Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. The metal genre is proven to have the biggest fan base over any other genre. In this article I will only be talking about their early years and going up to their first four albums. Most diehard Metallica fans will argue that their first four albums are true Metallica and after that they went mainstream to try and branch out to other audiences.

The band members were Steven Adler who was the drummers, Michael Andrew who was the bass, Darren Arthur who was the keyboard, William Axl Rose who was vocals, piano, Matt Sorum was drums, and Jeff Isbell was the guitar. They were an unpredictable band.

Books, movies, paintings, music, and other types of art are connected in various ways, but one connection seems to stand out. After groups paved the way for heavy metal, one band can be the representative of the heavy metal style in the 1980’s. Metallica was formed on October 15, 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. Lars played the drums while James was on vocals and guitar. Kirk Hammett joined the band in 1982 and became the band’s lead guitarist. Metallica’s bass player was Jason Newsted, after their first bassist, Cliff Murton, was killed in a bus crash. It was on March fourteenth that Metallica played their first gig at radio city Anaheim in California. On June fourteenth the Metal Massacre LP was released and it was Metallica's first appearance on an official record. The first release of the LP contained a few mistakes including band’s name being miss spelt Mettallica and Lloyd grants name being misspelled as Loydd Grant.

They are known for possessing exciting and energetic live performances. Throughout the years, The Rolling Stones have accustomed themselves to the popular taste in music without surrendering their known roots in rock and roll music with ties to electric guitar and blues. After forty years of success, there was no end in sight even after selling 250 million albums. The longest performing British band of all time, The Rolling Stones have significantly transformed music, style, and society. Laying the groundwork for the rock era, The Rolling Stones widely populated the incorporation of blues based song writing.

This hit album was held in high regards due to its credits of bringing alternative rock and grunge to the mainstream music. The band was well known because when their performances ended they would destroy their instruments making that what they became famous for. In 1992 the members grew uncomfortable with the success they had built because speculations arose about Kurt Cobain being a heavy heroin user. Despite these speculation their third album, In Utero, came out in 1993 which didn’t meet the same sales expectations from their second album

Def Leppard Def Leppard was a music band of the 20th century, that brought heavy metal music to people all around the world. It all started when five kids came together wanting to play music. Then went on to be the most well known bands in history. Def Leppard has become one of the best bands of the 20th century. Def Leppard was a band that had five kids interested in music in many ways.

Phil Collen and the rest of the band members had first-hand visualizations of how alcohol was slowly taking a toll on their close friend. Clark became an unpredictable and unstable figure, which emotionally affected the band moving forward. Without question Steve Clark was one of the most talented and promising guitarists in the 80s, which was a fact that did not allude Phil Collen. As a result, in 1989: “ Guitarist Phil Collen, along with longtime producer Mutt Lange, bandmates and friends, held an intervention [...] after a doctor warned of the drastic harm Clark was doing to himself (Chris Ford Ultimate Classic Rock). It was a highly emotional and tough experience for everyone involved, especially for Phil Collen after the doctor informed the band of an alarming statistic: “[...] that about 70 percent of alcoholics who get to this level usually end up getting killed either by accident or overuse” (Chris Ford Ultimate Classic Rock). The unintentional foreshadowing was a result of Clark’s unwillingness and stubbornness to get sober; however, he saw how much love and care he was receiving from those closest to him. Consequently, Clark was given a leave of absence from the band; however, was assured his place in the band was waiting for him once his health improved. Eventually, Clark checked into a rehab clinic in Tuscon, Arizona: where he met his future wife and recovering heroin addict Janie Dean.

After reading this novel I now feel compelled to read more about them online and listen to many of their songs. Nikki Sixx, Motley Crues bassist wrote a book following The Dirt by Motley Crue: Confessions of the world's most notorious rock band which I am looking into reading. After hearing about what the band members went through, and reading about their struggle to deal with a sudden influx of fame and fortune, while trying to deal with past events, I feel compelled to do further reading and feel this would be an interesting one to read
