I recall a time back in my childhood where my mother picked my brother and I from school. We jumped with joy carrying our heavy superhero backpacks and Capri-Suns in hand as she made us laugh with her story of the day. In the midst of excitement, we were given a challenge. Smiling, my mother told us that if we could guess who was home that she would tell us what movie she brought for us to watch. But to no avail, our guesses were off. Being the nice person I knew she was, she told us anyway, “Do you know about the movie Rush-hour?” My brother and I looked at each other in disbelief and held our breath. We heard about the movie and looked up the trailer before., but never found the means to watch it. The news made us want to run home as fast as possible and when we arrived our mother gave us the DVD. In front of us laid flat a DVD box of Rush Hour, a Nigerian film. I turned the box over and looked at the actors and plot which I’ve never seen before in my life. Nevertheless, we popped in the DVD in our DVD player and watched it. We did not enjoy it. The unconscious comparison of experiences affects everyone in their life. For the average man, how one values an experience can be affected by preconceived feelings (such as excitement or boredom) about what to expect. These feelings are innate in us people; it is a part of our lives, seemingly inescapable or achievable. In spite of this, true experiences can be found.
