Rock music is one of the most well known genres of music throughout the world. It has survived decades and well known bands have never truly died out. You can ask two different generations and can almost guarantee that both will know the greats. In this genre there have been many bands and artists that have influenced not only music but the world around them. U2 is a rock band that is consistent with their message of love and musical structure of their songs. In this essay I will be talking about three different musical performances by the band U2. Later on, in the mid 80’s they performed many charity shows, again showing their passion for a better world. In 1987, their album “The Joshua Tree” took off and was ranked number one in the U.S. and the U.K. and ever since U2 has been prevalent in Rock and Pop music all around the globe. They have had tours around the whole world,”After the initial European leg, the U.S. portion of its tour will kick off in Chicago”(“U2 Kicks Off World Tour in Spain”). They have even done tours as lately as 2015 and performed 76 shows on the Innocence and Experience tour. U2 has sold more than 170 million records putting them into an elite group with Billy Joel, The Eagles, and other amazing artists. In 2004 Rolling Stone named Bono the 32nd best singer ever and Edge the 38th best guitarist. In 2010 eight of their songs appeared in the top 500 songs of all time. They have a total 22 Grammys which is seventh all time and first all time as group! U2 has been thriving for decades and part of their success is their continual efforts to spread peace through their work. Although they have been around for so long they still love to release songs, “However, last week, Billboard reported that the album the Irish quartet was crafting alongside producer Danger Mouse wouldn’t be ready until next year”(Kennedy). U2 is one of the most successful bands in rock history. First to be analyzed, is the song “Beautiful Day” released in 2000 as part of the album All That You Can’t Leave Behind.
