The crew headed to the lighthouse happily after the cook says there was a house for refuge nearby. But the fact is that no one is there, so they have to row back to sea. Then they saw some people showing up on the beach, so they believed to be rescued this time, but those people thought they were fishing. Then the captain decided that no one was coming to save them, therefore, they had to swim to shore when they still had strength. The oiler swims strongly, but he is the only man who is dead at the end of the story.

After sailing from a port in New York it began its journey across the Atlantic in foul weather. Weeks after it left New York, it was spotted by a ship and it was discovered that the crew was missing.
