In the mystery novel, The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson, the author illustrates the idea that people get second chances and consequences for those who do not utilize it well. When the murderer, the Ripper, gets a second chance at life, he makes poor choices. Johnson demonstrates this by adding the quote, “Then shall the slayer return, and come unto his city, and unto his own house, unto the city whence he fled. -Joshua 20:6” (Johnson 5). In the Bible, during this passage, God asks Joshua to create an asylum for those who have accidentally murdered someone.
