Regional School Unit (RSU) #64 is comprised of an elementary, middle and high school within a small rural community in the town of Corinth, ME. This community is largely supported by agriculture and local business. However, it is about 20 miles from Bangor, ME, the closest city with numerous resources. Unfortunately, this distance restricts Corinth residents with a lack of transportation from having access to these resources. Whether the resource be obtaining a pair of glasses or medication from a pharmacy, even the seemingly effortless tasks can present challenges and go to show that members of this community suffer disparity due to their rural location.

While performing some research on the high school students at Proviso East, I found that most of them come from a low income family backgrounds with majority of the African American population. My school support children to achieve the five outcomes of the ECM framework – be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution to society and achieve economic well-being. They do this with activities such as, encouraging healthy eating, anti-bullying awareness, breakfast, after-school clubs and relevant PSHE lessons. The health promotion practicum course helped me explore around town in finding places to do my internship under a licensed Physical Therapy. I took this course since the class can help me discover my own self and see if I am choosing the right path for myself in the future. I did an internship when I was in the community college with my human services course. I volunteered at the activities stations at Hilo Medical Center and worked with nurses. I knew back than, I did not see myself as a Nurse, and that’s where I noticed a Physical therapist and witness up hand, in what they do. From there, I changed my track and I knew I would rather help people in a difference aspect compared to a nurse.
When people think of health in America, common sicknesses like cardiovascular disease and cancer come to mind. Although these sicknesses are very usual, yet serious diseases, they are definitely not the only health issues prevalent in America today. Organizations such as the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) work to ensure nationwide health promotion of all diseases. With 467 specific objectives clustered into 28 focus areas, the 2010 program was implemented to reach all people and health issues across the United States. Of those 28 areas, 10 were considered 'Leading Health Indicators' which served as reflections of the major health
