The Necessities of Animal Experimentation
Throughout my paper, I felt as though I was able to give a solid and fair representation of the opposing viewpoint on issue of animal testing. However, it was challenging because I strongly oppose animal testing.
The rhetorical analysis played a role in this, because I was required to use the various rhetorical appeals to compose a strong argument. Using the appeals definitely helped in trying to persuade the reader to acknowledge the opposing view.
Writing this paper did not affect my original line of thinking in regards to the topic. I support animal rights in every way, and am extremely against any sort of testing. Observing the “necessities” of animal testing did not, in any way,

These vaccines would not exist if animal experimentation were not allowed. Delmas Luedke, a writer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, expands on the benefits of animal experimentation, including the purpose to develop vaccines:
Among the gains are many antibiotics, vaccines, erythropoietin for the treatment of renal failure and certain anemias, the development of chemotherapies that have become standard treatment for combating or in some cases eradicating cancer and many of the procedures that have paved the way for organ transplants in human beings (Luedke).
To produce a vaccine, researchers and scientists must find a way to effectively infect the animal, test whether a specific vaccine works to prevent infection. By doing so, they anticipate the production of a “killed vaccine,” which is a vaccine that uses a dead version of the virus. Animal research is vital to numerous infected individuals who require a vaccine to eliminate the ailment, and also to millions of uninfected people since they have already been vaccinated against various diseases, such as tetanus. Chances are that you or someone you know has survived strep throat, ear infections, bronchitis and pneumonia, which is because of antibiotics that were previously tested on animals. Even though a majority of people obviously care for animals, they also care for their health and the health of
Thesis: Animal testing is a heavy topic that usually goes unnoticed. To many scientists, animal testing is beneficial and to society it is morally wrong.
To support or not support animal testing practices has been a long debated topic. Animals have been used in medical and cosmetic tests since the 1900s leading to numerous medical treatment breakthroughs and ensuring the safety of everyday products we use. Recently animal advocate groups have called for the abolishment of animal testing, causing a divide on whether or not to continue animal testing. In order to keep innovating new solutions for diseases that plague our communities and loved ones, allowing the use of animal testing to end preventable tragedies must occur.
First, we are going to talk about animal testing for vaccines. For vaccines they find a cure for the animal they are using to test, then they try to find a working vaccine for people. In 1796, Edward Jenner’s found a working smallpox vaccine. Scientists continue to search for vaccines for HIV/ AIDs, West Nile fever, and more. “A vaccine for the West Nile virus has been developed for horses, and scientists working with mice reported in 2003 that progress had been
In today's world, more than 100 million animals are killed each year in the name of animal testing. Now as some might say that sacrifice is needed for the common good, it is safe to say that animal testing may be taking it over the top to get such test results for the "common good". Animal testing has been a common practice for many years to get results and side effects for food, drugs, pesticides, beauty products, and just about everything one uses in an average day. But now, in the modern world where ethics and animals rights come into the light, the subject of animal testing has become quite a spectacle to be fought over. In an interesting way, the debate over animals questions the humanity of the people of the world, and how far they
To conclude, I feel that animal testing is not right and I am against the current animal testing system, which is mandatory by law. I think the fact that the animals don’t have a choice and are being forced to be tested, which puts their life in danger, is wrong. I also believe that animal testing is the wrong thing to do when there are many alternatives that would cause no harm to animals (or humans). Jeremy Bentham once said, “The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but "Can they suffer?” – The answer is
Animal testing is still necessary because it is the quickest way to test vaccines for deadly diseases. Many people think scientists should just test on people instead of helpless animals. If they did that there could be chance the person dying during the experiment. Also, animals have shorter life spans, so long-term side effects would appear faster than a humans side effects would.
Thesis Statement: Animal testing is a debatable issue in modern society. Some people argue that animal testing should be kept due to medical benefits and research study conveniences. However, I think animal experimentation should be banned by refuting supporters’ arguments.
While many people think we are using animals to benefit ourselves, these experiments are also benefiting animals. When we use animals for research, people should know that it is not just benefitting us but it is really helping improve the life expectancy of an an animal and future as well. Animals are living better because of animal research. Pets and livestocks are living more comfortable. More than 90 medications developed for humans are used to treat pets, farm animals and wildlife. A number of medical treatments and vaccines used to treat animals were originally developed for humans through animal research. If vaccines were not tested on animals, animals could have died from rabies, feline leukemia, infectious hepatitis virus, tetanus, anthrax, and canine parvovirus.
Most scientist do not believe that animals are indispensable, and their argument for which is that many medical breakthroughs were established based on animal testing. An example of a medical breakthrough are the therapies used for the controlling of AIDS, established by injecting animals with the virus, and using their post-mortem organs to identify the exact cause of the virus. Most surgical techniques were also first perfected on animals, such as hip replacement and blood transfusions which save millions of lives every day. Smallpox, once an extremely deadly virus, was eradicated from our planet by the rise of vaccines discovered by animal testing. Not only do scientists argue that the evolvement of vaccines were aided by animals, but they
Within few months of the vaccine being introduced there has been a rapid decrease of infections by 70 percent. (www.indiana.edu) Therefore, animal experiments are a vital role in the research of medication.
In a Lone Star College article “save the animals: stop animal testing”, the author asserts that animal testing exploits animals, the pain and suffering that experimental animals are subject to is not worth any possible benefits to humans; followed by that the animals are virtually tortured to death, and all of these tests are done in the interest of human welfare,
White’s article summarizes the recent changes in animal testing and the alternatives that are being researched. Introducing the change, the increase in humane research, and the reasons for the changes, then seamlessly leading to the alternatives that researchers have that almost completely remove the need for animals in testing. In the process, White gives indepth explanations of the options, with the advantages and disadvantages of each. She cites many reliable sources; papers and other articles used to write her article, therefore the information she offers is reputable. White offers points on how much more humane current animal experimentation is, however the number of animal tests is still increasing for a number of reasons that she does
Since the early BC’s, many people, scientists, researchers, and companies have been forcing live animals to be used to test their products on, to study behavior effects, etc. However, in today’s times, people are questioning whether or not animal testing should even be allowed. This query of whether or not to allow animal testing or not is essentially related to how humane it is, and how well it works. As a result, this matter is an extremely contentious one and has allured a lot of discussion. This essay will examine a couple of the discussions on why animal testing is not alright for companies to do, and will profile any of the problems along this situation. It will then state the reasons I think animal testing should be legal, which would be, we eat more than we test, animals have a shorter life cycle than humans, and animal research has helped scientists develop modern vaccines.
Have you ever thought about the effects of animal testing? Well, some critics may argue that it has many positive effects, such as, providing the drugs and medicines we need to live healthy lives. But, although this may be true, I challenge this. To continue, animal testing is cruel to animals and does not produce enough and/or strong enough medicines to be necessary for humans. This is because, when animals are seized for animal testing, they are not only locked in cages, but they are also treated menacingly and very poorly. Also, animal testing has shown to be wasting our lives and resources. In addition, not only is animal testing unnecessary, but there are also other alternatives.
Scientists and researchers around the world claim that many people owe their health to animal research. Several noteworthy medical advancements, such as the polio vaccine, insulin for diabetes, and antibiotics for pneumonia, have been said to have not been possible without the use of
