Vu Quang Viet indicates that only 1.6% of Vietnamese citizens can pursue their tertiary study (“Chi tieâu cho gíao duïc: Nhöõng con soá “giaät mình!””. VietNamNet. 13 Feb. 2006), which means that the number of seats in colleges and universities are limited, and admission, thus, is extremely selective. Therefore, conducting the university entrance exams is the most logical and impartial way to decide whom to pursue higher study. As we can see, in every aspect, people have to compete to get what fulfills their needs when there is insufficient source of supplies. In ancient eras, when people lived in caves, they fought for food when there was shortage of food. In modern history, big countries fought for colonies, which caused World War II. In other words, when everyone wants their needs to be met while there is shortage of supplies, they have to compete for it. None can be exempted from this fact. Similarly, in this case, every student wants to get admission when there are few available seats, they have to compete for those seats. It is logical. The third point is that the national university examination will encourage students to study. Thus, the qualification of admitted students will be enhanced. How could we be sure that those who admitted into universities are able to pursue their study? The answer is that, if they are able to pass the entrance tests, their levels are high enough to follow their academic path. In order to pass the entrance exams, they have to
1. For some students attending college, high school grades may be an issue for admittance
In today’s world, young people think that if they continue their tertiary education, they can access a better job, no matter which subject they take. This situation indirectly causes a huge enrollment of students into universities and colleges, which may drop off the quality of education. As the author says, “quantity trumps quality” (pg. 168) which certify that the environment is skipped from education to jobs; meanwhile, the knowledge part is ignored by the students. In detail, they do not expect to learn something but just to get a degree which acts as “a passport to consideration for a job”. (pg. 164) This condition gradually turns credentialing into the norm. Everyone only cares about the degree that they will receive rather than concerning about what they will learn and develop through their subject’s material.
Nice to be admitted but that does not matter if students do not have the funds to attend
In his essay “Frank Bruni” which appear Rethinking College Admissions, where he was insistent that college admissions process should change, and this essay published in New York Times. The college admissions process look for many things that hard for the students to have. In sated of accepting the student how come from poor society and develop there knowledge so they can have better live, they accept the students who come from the best school. Moreover, they emphasize on the student who have high grade on standardized tests, the AP classes and extracurricular activities without looking for the students who cannot do this things. All this requirements are for pacific class of people who can have it, even for the sport scholarship they look for
Higher education has a vast history; beginning in the early colonial period and spanning ten generations. With its wide range of history, aspects of higher education have changed as the ideals and reforms of society adjusted. Albeit, the missions and purposes of college have remained the same. In this paper, I will clarify the three main missions and purposes of higher education. Then, I will shift the focus of the paper to the area I would like to pursue in higher education and how it reflects those purposes.
The article of “ In the Basement of the Ivory Tower” really remind me to considered plenty of things that I have never been thinking about before. In my mind, pursuing and accomplishing a higher level of education is always good for people. However, the view that the Professor X raised is a very sharp phenomenon buy it does exists in our society. In the article he questioned whether it is necessary for everyone to get higher education or not. It seems that as far as Professor X concerned, some of those students who are just waste of time and money by taking college education. He exposed that many colleges nowadays are bend to financial profits rather than to provide a high quality education. What is more, some of the students are not that well prepared for their college study and many of them cannot pass his class.
Pharinet, the author of Is College for Everyone, explains an important factor in today’s society about college. He talks about how everyone cannot attend college like today’s society expects us to do so. Many are not able because they cannot maintain the grades and are not financially stabled. Money is a huge problem when it comes to attending college. Books expense, living situation and receiving student loans are examples of some of the issues students never think about, but endure. They only know about attending because it sounds and looks good after high school. Some high schools do not give their students the proper education to meet the requirements to attend. That is why ACT and SAT scores and high school transcripts are needed to meet college credentials.
This constitutes a full burden on the university to show how their admission policy meets the government interest of educational benefits that stem from a diverse student body. The third requirement states that the policy must be the least restrictive means of satisfying the government interest at play. The consequence of university admission policy being scrutinized under this combination of factors means universities must now go to great lengths to show through research, progression of students, and testimony that this policy is actually distributing educational benefits. Furthermore, universities must show any and all less racially restrictive policies would not accomplish this diverse student body goal at

Exams have caused a lack of enthusiasm in the mindset of scholars and encouraged students to have superficial knowledge which doesn’t last long. At the cost of writing exams are many individuals who do not succeed in a certain profession because they performed poorly on a particular exam. A change needs to be made to the system of education by creating a scheme which encourages students to work consistently and enthusiastically, and offers greater opportunity for each and every student to
Education in Vietnam I feel like it focus about theory more than practical and education in Vietnam have 9 subject and when the test coming is really stressful to study 9 subject and it more difficult each year . But education in America is more practical and more effective. Student in America just study 4 or 5 subject and student can focus more about each subject when school have test, quiz, ... But student in America must study by their own and voluntarily and when they are not in school they have to do a lot of problem sets, reading assignment and paper, … It helpful to makeup sure the they can understand all the lesson. And that is why student in Vietnam are study abroad to different country to study, they want to learn and know about education in other
