The world that we live in changes daily, as does our climate. The Earth's temperature has drastically changed throughout history. Over the last 650,000 years, there have been several different cycles of glacial advances and meltings. Around 7,000 years ago, the most recent ice age occured, which marked the ride of the current climate era. Despite the fact people are ignorant to just how significant climate is, the topic is especially important to all humans and animals, as it causes extreme weather changes, natural disasters and other crucial, harmful effects on both our community and health. Extreme weather is among the main and worst effects of climate change. Some examples of extreme weather that scientists have seen increasing as a result of climate change are heat waves and droughts. The number of heat waves have been increasing during recent years and, in 2011, heat waves have tripled compared to the years prior. In addition, higher temperatures which have resulted from climate change have led to the increase of evaporation, ultimately causing droughts. In the state of Oklahoma, citizens experienced more than one hundred days with temperatures over one hundred degrees. Evidently, extreme weather has an effect on all animals and humans. Furthermore, according to Global Change, “Over the last fifty years, much of the U.S. has seen increases in prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures, heavy downpours, and in some regions, severe floods and droughts.” (Global
We all see the weather change from day to day and it is just a normal occurrence. Seasons change from warm to cold and we all just go about our business. But what most people don’t see change is the climate. Climate changes over a long period of time and it has shown a warming trend in the past few decades. Many people attribute this warming trend to the alarming rate that humans are burning fossil fuels and pumping Co2 into the atmosphere, however some people think that climate change is merely a myth or that global temperatures have always risen and fallen during Earth’s lifetime.
The Earth's climate has changed throughout history. According to the findings of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the change of the earth’s climate has evolved through time. The global sea level rose about eight inches in the last century; the planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit since the last 19th century; the oceans have absorbed much of this increased heat of 0.302 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969; the increasing number of record high temperature and intense rainfall events since 1950; and the overall increase of ocean acidification by about 30 percent. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives. The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century. There is no question that increased levels of greenhouse gases cause the Earth to warm in response.
Studies held in Svalbard have shown that the reindeer population has been decreasing it’s body mass. Reindeer born in the 1990’s weighed about 121 pounds, and those born in 2010 weighed about 106 pounds. This issue is a direct result of climate change, which is the expansion of the greenhouse effect, that is being caused by the doings of humans. Climate change indicates warmer winters means more rain. When the rain freezes, it creates a thick layer of ice above their food, which prevents the reindeer from eating, and creating serious competition for other food. The hungry females either aren’t able to give birth or produce babies that are much tinier.
Our planet is experiencing a level of climate changes previously unreached. Through the analysis of ice cores, tree rings, glacier lengths, pollen remains and ocean sediments (EPA, 2016), scientists have been able to piece together the Earth’s climate for roughly the last million years (some claim several millions of years). Through this research and the study of historic environmental events, it has been determined that the Earth’s climate changes from warmer to cooler over thousands of years due to natural reasons such as changes in solar energy, volcanic eruptions, and natural changes in the emission of greenhouse gases (EPA, 2016). However, in the last ~150 years or so, this trend has deviated severely due to human causes.
In a world filled with seven billion people minding their own business, very few will take a second and look at the world around them and how it has been ravaged, even damaged beyond repair since our first evolutionary ancestors took their first few steps in this planet from being mere apes. Whole ecosystems, which used to flourish, are now nonexistent. Entire species of plants and animals, who used to dot the various landscapes of the world, are now nearly extinct if not already extinct. Greenhouse gases emitted from human activity has also resulted in a higher likelihood of extreme weather anomalies to occur due to the side effects of climate change on the planet (Buhaug, 2016). If drastic measures are not taken in due time,
Though the center of much debate, one undeniable fact is that climate change is occurring and affects every part of planet Earth. Some effects are actually positive, such as higher rates of photosynthesis in trees due to absorption of more abundant CO2 and warmer temperatures. However, most of the negative effects of climate change outweigh or counteract positive growth. Negative effects of climate change are affecting the land, water, plants, and animal life on planet Earth.
In the twenty-first century, climate change has proved to be a major disaster affecting every country across the world. The adverse effects of the climatic change will continue to influence the next generation if adequate measures are not implemented (George 86). Climate change is a controversial topic. Scientific evidence shows clearly that future generation is at risk though the government and the public responses to this threat are moderately weak. Several corporations admit that climate change is happening yet are waiting for indications from governments to strategies long-term investments procedures to address the risk (Fung, Ana and Mark 43). In the meantime influential forces, mainly the polluting factories as well as fossil energy sector, have bestowed benefits in sustaining their businesses without caring if they are polluting the environment or not. In the developed nations the rate of environmental pollution is very high due to a high number of industries that emits harmful substances in the environment. Several people in industrialized countries wish that climatic change was not real for them not to incur extra cost to mitigate its effects (Ruth, Matthias and María 26). In less developed nations most individuals think that no one can alter the climate because it is under control by divine power. Increasing human activities in areas like transport, industry, energy explorations as well as deforestation all have caused the greenhouse
Climate change is a change of our Earth’s climate throughout a long period of time. An example of climate change is the glaciers melting in the Arctic. When the glaciers it signals that our Earth is warming. This is a very serious issue because if the Earth is warming it can cause more intense storms or make it easier for natural disasters. Natural disasters are already a big enough problem as they are. Climate change is something we can not throw to the side. This is something that will eventually have very negative effects of life. In this century the Earth’s temperature has raised about 1 degree Fahrenheit. Even the littlest change such as this makes a very big difference.
“There’s one issue that will define the contours of this century more dramatically than any other, and that is the urgent threat of a changing climate.” (Barack Obama). Climate change has been a popular topic of discussion for years now, due to its crucial threat to our environment. The world will forever be altered if climate change isn’t taken into serious consideration and not in a good way. Climate change is happening now and immediate action should be taken to stop it. The damage to our earth cannot always be undone. Climate change has had many negative effects from damaging coral reefs or the increase of wildfires, but most importantly rising sea levels.
Climate change is happening and it's is devastating. For example, is is affecting glaciers, the Southwest region, oceans, and agriculture. People know that climate change is happening because of studies shown in multiple places. For example, studies show that temperatures in the southwest have increased by almost two degrees Fahrenheit. This shows that climate change is devastating because increasing temperatures can cause damage to the environment. Also glaciers are melting consistently because of climate change and less snow. According to “National Snow and Ice Data Center” The amount of land, sea ice that is covered in snow has decreased between 1966 and 2010, over many Northern Hemisphere Regions. From this you can see that climate change is affecting the world by temperature increases and glaciers melting. All in all climate change is affecting the environment and humans in negative ways.
The global climate is changing. It is most likely that it will continue changing throughout the century. It is the greatest challenge today in the 21st century. Climate change puts more stress on the survival of the poor developing countries. There is nowhere does climate change impact more than on the Africa’s fragile ecosystems. The scope and severity of the impacts of the change in the global climate have made the international community to galvanize into action in an attempt to reverse the trend.
Climate change is an issue that is becoming more and more evident in today’s society. “Climate change is a variation in the unusual weather found in a place.’’ According to NASA researchers; People who study earth have noticed the Earth is getting warmer. “Earth’s temperature has increased by 1 degree Fahrenheit in the last one hundred years. This may not seem like much, but small changes in the Earth’s temperature can have big effects.” (NASA). After many researches, scientist have come to believe there will be more snow and ice to melt and the ocean level will rise, get hotter, and other places will have colder winters with a lot of snow while other places have more rain than others. For example, Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Hurricane Irma in Florida. This climate change will have a significant impact on the environment, biodiversity, and on human health.
Global warming is one of the major problems that the human race face in this modern world. This problem is threatening the humanity and the life of our planet. Even though global warming is an inevitable natural slow process, since the mid 1900’s with the start of the industrialization era, global warming increased its rate. We have to start taking preventions to improve the situation before the global warming many negative effects start becoming more catastrophic. In this paper I am going to explain the causes and the consequences of global warming and how it will impact the life of humanity in a long term perspective.
“If international climate policy is to prove effective, government policy-makers will unavoidably need to take all business actors on board, not the least of them the multinational oil corporations. The oil industry is one of the most powerful and global business sectors today and its activities and products are directly linked with rising greenhouse gas emissions. Understanding its climate change strategies and actions is of utmost importance to those policy-makers aiming at constructive participation of the oil industry in the shift to a climate-friendly world.” (Van den Hove, Le Menestrel and De Bettignies, 2002)
Over the years, the complication and problem of climate change has been causing dramatic and negative effects on the planet and the human/animal population. Although some people believe that climate change is nothing but a hoax, three editors wrote articles proving that climate change is indeed real, and has serious consequences on the environment. It may seem like a small change in the weather cannot change everyday lives in a great way, but each small change creates a bigger problem for the future. Not only does the dramatic changes within the climate affect the human population, but it also affects plants and animals, and the habitats in which they grow and live. Three different articles show three different issues on how the constant change in climate can affect the way pollination and crop production continues, the uncertain future of Ontarian Caribou, and the negative effects on hydroelectric power in Southern countries.
