Ending Animal Cruelty In today’s society makeup is becoming more and more popular. Makeup brands are constantly coming out with new products made of different ingredients that they think will pull people in. Where do these ingredients come from? How do they know they’re safe for people? Makeup brands are using innocent animals to make sure that these products aren’t going to be harmful to people. But of course they don’t know if they are harmful before they test them on animals. Many high end makeup brands test on animals without anyone even knowing. Lush cosmetics does not test on animals, this ad is part of the campaign they have to get people involved in trying to end or replace animal testing. In my first ad Lush uses a cute little bunny to get to appeal to the viewers pathos. Seeing a small animal with makeup that is harmful to it isn’t going to make people want to buy a brand’s products. That is the message Lush is trying to get across by this ad. If the makeup is harmful to animals it would be harmful to you. Not to mention these animals don’t deserve this at all. The people testing these products on these animals don’t know the effect it will have on them, hence the reason why it is a test. The pathos in this ad is going to make you think twice about buying makeup brands that test on animals. The second ad is a commercial starring Angie Hill. In the commercial Hill is using makeup on her face, perfume on her neck and also showing the effects of it. As she is
Millions of animals every year are being used in labs to test cosmetics. This problem has become a worldwide issue and the U.S. needs to make a change by prohibiting the use of animals in testing cosmetics for safe use.
While some have heard stories of animal testing, many are oblivious to how harsh the effects of the testing are. Ensuring the safety of makeup and other beauty products is definitely important, but the tests used today are inhumane and ineffective, but it is in the hands of the beauty industry to make the changes necessary to end it. Cosmetic companies should refrain from testing on animals because the tests are no longer necessary and they inflict unneeded pain on animals.
Imagine being born, only to live a life of torture. You are brought to a lab, and cruelly tested on against your will. Toxins poured into your eyes, painful injections to your skin, then left to die when you’re no longer useful. Although many do not realize it, people use products tested on animals in their everyday lives. For girls, many of your favorite makeup brands, such as Estee Lauder, Makeup Forever, and Maybelline take part in animal testing. Products such as toothpaste, cologne, deodorant, laundry detergent, razors, and even band-aids aren’t tested innocently, either. As a makeup enthusiast, I am passionate about how the products I use daily are tested. Today I will help you understand what animal testing is and how it started, how it’s currently affecting animals around the world, and what organizations are doing to help make a difference in the future. To begin, I will explain the history of animal testing. An animal test is any scientific experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo something that is likely to cause them pain, suffering, distress, or lasting harm.(https://www.crueltyfreeinternational.org/why-we-do-it/what-animal-testing) Animal experiments are not the same as taking your animal to the vet. Animals used in laboratories are harmed, not for their own good, and usually killed at the end of an experiment. Animal experiments include injecting or force feeding animals with potentially harmful substances, exposing animals to radiation,
Hunting is not a form of animal cruelty because its serves a purpose to the population of certain animals. Animal cruelty is when people force pain on animals which lead them to suffer a slow agonizing death. This is a large moral issue today that just keeps growing into a nationwide problem. For instance, morally humans believe it is okay to harm non-domesticated animals rather than domesticated animals such as our pets. Domesticated animals and non-domesticated animals still have behavioral instincts. A domesticated dog will attack if threatened and a non-domesticated wolf would do the same. Thinking of ourselves as the dominate species is untrue in the state that animals kill other animals for food, just as we as hunters do and anyone who eats animal products. Many will ask what the differences are between hunting, poaching, and true animal cruelty.
Everyday cosmetic products that many people use, such as lipsticks, shampoo, face wash, etcetera, are verified to be safe using animal testing. Chemical burns and other short term ailments are very serious concerns that plague Americans and the knowledge that the products they use will not harm them and their families is possible because of animal testing. Also long term effects, such as cancer, have been discovered through animal product testing and promptly stopped saving countless lives. “NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS YOU’RE THE GUINEA PIG” (Source C). Living day to day with the risk that the products trusted to use on your children and yourself is enough to validate
When was the last time you bought makeup? Or even more specifically when was the last time you bought makeup that was tested on animals? Each year in Australia alone, over 100 million animals will die from exposure to commercial animal testing or in simpler terms, animal cruelty that is commonly disregarded as it is just ‘’science’’. However, product testing on animal is extremely unethical and is pure cruelty. Here is why we need to stop this mistreatment immediately.
A rabbit lives its life trapped in a laboratory. It doesn’t get fresh air and has different products tested on it every day. The product can make the rabbit go blind or cause its skin to burn, but there is nothing the rabbit can do about it. This is what happens to animals every day from cosmetic companies who test their products on animals. According to Cruelty Free Kitty (2017), over 30 cosmetic companies continue to use animal testing to improve their products. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (2017), “the agency has consistently advised cosmetic manufactures to employ whatever testing is appropriate and effective for substantiating the safety of their products.” This means that if the company believes animal testing is the best option for their product they are allowed to do it. Testing cosmetics on animals is cruel and inhumane, and people should avoid using products that test on animals.
This is an upsetting topic but everyone should be aware of animals being used when purchasing a product. Some products say – no animal testing involved in its development. Product testing is commonly performed on animals in order to measure the effects of the substances used in the making of cosmetics. In performing these tests, substances are placed in the eyes of conscious rabbits to assess damage to sensitive eye tissues. This is very painful for the rabbits, who often scream when the substances are applied and sometimes break their necks or backs trying to escape the restraints.
Animal Cruelty is described as “the deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal” (Miller, 2016). The maltreatment of animals in society today is an issue that is continuously addressed without much actual change. Laws are established but not fully implemented to those who break the law. Some of the most common forms of animal cruelty include dog fighting, puppy mills, horse slaughtering, neglect, and animal experimentation. Dog fighting is a common form of gambling in the United States where dogs are forced to fight each other for the entertainment and profit of the spectators. It is considered a felony in all 50 states; however, it continues to be an ongoing issue in the U.S. and internationally. Behind the actual dog
Many people might say that animal testing has proven results for the safety of beauty products and cosmetics. Although, in some cases it is helpful, why would you want to use such an old outdated method of research in 2017 many more methods have opened up due to advanced technology. Animal testing dates back to the 1900’s and yet in the 21st-century companies are still doing this even though it is more costly than alternative methods.
Many of America’s favorite go-to skin care products and cosmetics are tested on animals. Despite that, there are products on the market that use alternative testing procedures yet are still considered safe and effective. In the article titled Animal Testing on Cosmetics written by author Ian Murnaghan, the controversy of animal testing in cosmetics is referred to when he says, “The practice is particularly controversial because animals may experience discomfort, suffering and ultimately die, all in the name of aesthetics and 'looking good.’”. Much of what he says in this quote can be applied to extremely popular cosmetic brands like Sephora , Almay, and Revlon who all use animal testing to build their products to maximum use. Brands that compare to these are ELF, Too Faced, and Physicians Formula who all claim to using alternative procedures to show the importance of being
Alas, as a frequently ignored and disguised problem, it isn’t often we look at our makeup bag and think to ourselves how many innocent animals have actually been harmed in the production of our favourite cosmetic products. However, it is sad to say that there is still a major problem in regards to animal testing in 2017; ‘why?’ you may wonder, and to put it simply, for the release of your newest, highly anticipated mascara or lipstick – when put into perspective this suffering seems surplus to requirements. The ‘Cruelty-Free International’ have confirmed this year that there are currently over 115 million animals of varying species and breeds being used for animal testing worldwide; and for whose benefit – well, ours, can our own benefit really overshadow the unethical mistreatment of animals.
Over 100 million animals are crippled, burned, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year so people around the world can have red lips and winged eyeliner (“11 Facts About”). Cosmetic testing on living animals has become an outdated and cruel method of determining which products seem safe for the use of humans. This being said, animal testing is still prominent in the United States even though it is not mandatory to develop or sell products (“Cosmetic Testing”). Though better methods have been proven, other countries still require animal testing on any cosmetics being shipped into them. Their argument? Animals have been found to be the closest living beings to humans and, therefore, the most efficient
Every year millions of animals are tested on and poisoned. “The term "animal testing" refers to procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new medicinal products, and testing the human health and/or environmental safety of consumer and industry products such as cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, pharmaceuticals and industrial/agro-chemicals.” (Humane Society International, 2016). Many animals are forced to inhale toxic fumes and take harmful chemicals in hope for scientists to know the outcome those products will have on humans. This is now proven that even though it may not be harmful for an animal it still may be for humans so it is a pointless attempt to help us, in the long run and killing many of helpless animals in the meantime. Makeup, cosmetics, household products and many more are the harmful things we test on animals to make sure it is “safe” for our use. More animals than you think are being tested by these terrible chemicals such as mice, fish, rats,
One of the leading industries in the United States is the cosmetics business. When cosmetics started up people were applying all different types of product to their bodies. While using the products, people were starting to acquire serious injuries to their skin and hair. This forced make-up producers to figure out a way to test the products before it hit the market. In the 1940s, scientists started to use animals for testing purposes. In recent years, testing on animals has decreased because producers use safer ingredients in their products. Even though there are safe ingredients, people continue to experiment with new chemicals and dyes. To avoid major lawsuits, companies still experiment on animals to prove the product is safe. With all these new products, the Food and Drug
