All while be activie, and playing with friends. ("Screen time takes a mental and physical toll on kids.") Watching too much TV can lead to laziness, and weight gain. In 'Kids and screen time: What does the research say?' Juana Summers explains the negative effect on children spending so much time in front of T.V screens. In doing so knocks down their ability to recognize emotions in accordance to the new research from the University of California Angeles. She mentioned that the study published in the journal 'Computers in human behavior' spoke about how five days without exposure to technology sixth graders were more likely to read human emotions then the children who had access to different means of technology. The difference between kids who are not regularly around technology seem to be more intuitive then those who are to wrapped up in electronic devices. Although I lean towards children without, the question really is are children really better off with, or without and what are the downfalls and benefits?
Some people say that too much screen time for children is bad for their health. Others argue that it's perfectly fine for children to enjoy some time with the TV. I personally believe that in moderation, TV isn't that bad. In the article, It's Time to Let Go of Screen Fears, it states that kids who watched telvison with parent showed signs of decreased anger and fear. In my own experience, I've seen the positive affects that TV has on children. Although it can be a good thing, if you don't limit your time with the TV it can be harmful.
Screen time cuases alot of issues. Many issues can be physical and metnal. Both mental and physical takes a toll on kids. Why? Because according to a scientific journal artical, the light
Experts have it that kids are under two years should not watch TV at all for two hours a day. It is advised that you apply the same rules for children who are older, as too much TV can prevent children from doing physical activities like doing homework, reading, playing outside, and interacting with family and friends.
Finally, in article It's Time to Let Go of Screen Fears, I don't agree with the article either when they state, some studies show watching too much TV lead to weak executive function, lower test score, and obesity in children. From my own life experences, I have a 4 year old son, and he gets on YouTube and practice his numbers. He's 4 and know all his numbers from one to twenty. He also have a word game on his tablet, and he knows how to spell basic words at his age. I think that's
Would you as a parent, limit your child's amount of screen time or gaming? Some people will argue that screen time for kids is not good for their still developing brains. They say that video games and television will “rot” their brains and that they will grow to be more violent and hostile (Scholastic). Some studies show that this isn't necessarily true. Research shows that people who play video games are actually more outgoing and physically active(McGonigal). Scientists and researchers Sy Mukherjee, Christopher Bergland and Peter Grey, say that with technology and gaming in our kids lives, then they can develop essential learning skills, and strengthen important traits like common sense(McGonigal). The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
Screen time limits are vital for children today. Children should be restricted, even for only short periods of time, from spending time in front of media screens. Studies show television viewing by preschoolers lowers executive functions. Time on media screeens can also take tolls on kids mentally and phisically. However, acoording to a new study, helps toddlers improve their vocabulary. Let me further explain.
It is proven that kids who watch television with their parent's it reduces fear, anger, and increased learning. Honestly, the main reason i know that is true is because when I watch television with my parents, it reduces anger and fear. There is a catch to watching too much television. It disrupts sleep, saps mental energy, and it also can give you depression. It also can affect you at a young age, preschoolers lower their ability to complete a given task.
Screen time can create a positive influence on children all ages, but needs a time limit. Time limits will provide a time to learn and be social at the same time. The AAP states that teenagers should have up to two hours of screen time. Teens should have and do have more hours of screen time throughout the day.
More than 30 years of research has shown that excessive TV watching by children can interfere with the development of intelligence, thinking skills, an imagination; it can slow down the development of reading and speaking skills; it can slow down the development of reading and speaking skills; it can cultivate violent or aggressive behavior; and may even contribute to ADD/ADHD. Television can be a powerful entertainment and education tool for children given the right programming. However, studies have shown that television, and media in general, can also have a very negative influence. Some studies indicate it can shorten attention span, distort body image, work in conjunction with other factors to escalate obesity, create fear, and increase aggressive and anti-social behaviors if exposure is unmonitored and unlimited.
According to the A.C. Nielsen Co. (2009), children spend an average of 28 hours a week hooked up to the TV. That number adds up to 1,456 hours of television a year, which means that children spend an average of 2 months out of the year watching nonstop TV! Though these figures are shocking, even more shocking is the scientific evidence that confirms the detrimental effect watching the television is having on today’s children.
In addition, television provides us with perfect entertainment for every person’s taste, starting with cartoons and ending with adult movies.Even the parents begin to teach their children to watch television in their early childhood because of the thought of itis a good way to develop their children. Sometimes people forget that watching television does not always carries only positive aspects. A negative relationship exists between the amount of time spent watching television, children and adolescent’s health status, including overweight, school and verbal performance, perceived cognitive and attention abilities, violence or bullying. Negative effects of this activity becomesa quite obvious fact. As the consequences, it affects human physical, mental and social health in a very destructive ways. In an average lifetime, someone will spend about fifteen percent of their life in school; fifteen percent of their life spent sitting in desks, reading books, doing homework, and watching lectures. School is one of the biggest parts of a child’s life, and cannot afford to be distracted from by media. Children today will often spend more time interacting with media on a weekly basis more than anything else, save sleep. This can have serious repercussions on a child’s physical and mental condition (Canadian par. 4). A substantial number of children begin watching television at an earlier age and in greater amounts than what experts recommend. Television viewing frequently limits children’s time for vital activities such as reading, playing, or learning to talk, spending time with peers and family, storytelling, participating in regular exercise, and developing other necessary physical, mental and social skills. Watching television
Television is a huge part of American lives. Our society today is very strongly based on the media especially television. We are not only always on our phones but the television is usually running in the background. However what most people do not realize is the effects of simply sitting and watching television can have the human brain. More specifically the effects it can have on the developing brain of young children. Television effects the three domains of development: social emotional, physical, and cognitive. Although a few experts disagree, the vast majority believe that television is harmful to the three domains of development in the growing brain in young children. Understanding the effects parents and care takers can prevent the exposure to kids and help find a healthy balance of “tv time.”
