Placing the interests of the entire world above those of an individual nation became the new model for art in the contemporary world and this movement was known as globalism. With the increases in digital technology, global integration of art and culture became significantly easier and more prominent. Although, globalism brought a new knowledge of culture from other nations and allowed certain countries to emerge as super powers not everything was beneficial. Terrorism rocked western civilizations such as Britain and the Unites States with attacks from the extremist group knows as Al-Qaeda that brought a devastating and sense of urgency for moral change through art and literature. Also, the threat of our dying ecosystem was brought up as …show more content…
505). Although terrorism was not developed recently but rather has been around for a while, the rapid and new forms of technology and communication as well as the availability of weapons made the issue more prominent and devastating. Especially after the devastating 9-11 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon. Since then the war on terror has spread too much of the Middle East, and the already tense atmosphere was made worse with Sunni and Shi’ite civil wars, terrorism was a fear that was all too real and possible. With such a devastating lost after 9-11 and over 3000 civilians killed, many artists commemorated those who died in the tragic attack with paintings or eulogies, such as Johns Adams, “On the Transmigration of Souls”(p.505) or paintings of people leaping to their death just moments before the towers collapsed. It wasn’t until years later where literary reflections of the incident were starting to be created that a stronger voice spoke up regarding what was seen as a moral urgency as terrorist attacks were beginning to occur in other parts of the world and were unfortunately becoming a common thing. Seamus Heaney, an Irish author, wrote the most controversial piece, called “The Terrorist, He Watched” after the bombings in London on the metro. Heaney wrote how people go through there everyday life, and talk with friends, go to the restaurants and use public transportation but little do they
The events of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 changed not just the American way of life, but the way in which terrorism will forever be viewed. Moments after the first plane changed our way of life by crashing into the first tower, it also changed the way people will live their lives for many generations from that point forward. For the first time on Continental United States soil, America was under siege.
Many can recall exactly what they were doing at the times of the attacks, and remember how chaotic that day on September 11, 2001 truly was. It changed the American way of life, and the way many people would come to view the world today. Today, the effects of 9/11 are still present in the world in several ways. The attack changed American citizen’s standpoints and views on life forever, and helped America “wake up” to the topic of terrorism. While the attacks have helped America and its citizens to become more aware, they have also affected the way that many view other cultures and groups of people. In today's world, it is more often than not to see the news or read an article about a Muslim who was mistreated due to their beliefs and where they come from. With this, the attacks have also generated a great sense of uneasiness in citizens as to what is coming next in terms of terrorism. While living in a post-9/11 world, it is clear to see that the changes being made worldwide after the attacks are quite altering and severe. However, are these changes being made for the better, or for the
Throughout the world many terrorist attacks happen in the different communities. Looking into the suprise everyone got on septemeber 2001, the twin towers in NYC got attacked. The attacks caused major devastating results leaving most residents with fear for their lives friends, and loved ones. Gary Lafree, who is from maryland and is “the national consortium for the study of terrorism. As Gary Lafree once said, “because 9/11 has become the very symbol for terrorism, we tend to think of all terrorist attacks as being similar. Some of the effects of 9/11 are the emotional effect which changed economics and the view on terrorism.
Jazz started in New Orleans in the late 19th Century when the combination of European horns ran into the loud rumble of African drums. Local folk took that sound and put it together with the music they heard in churches and the music they heard in bars and saloons and they played a new music, wild and euphoric. It is said to have grown from a combination of African folk music and rhythms, Caribbean and African-American music. (Hennessey, 1973) Jazz spans a period of over 100 years and encompasses a range of music from ragtime to the present day. It makes heavy use of improvisation,
The movie industry is for entertainment purposes. For many people, going to the movies is an escape; time to sit back and become someone else. However, once in a rare moment then a movie comes out that is not just foe entertainment and dares to address a controversial issue. “The Blind Side” and “Precious” are two movies that I was very surprised at my reaction to them. My reasons for wanting to see both movies were as different as night and day. I went to see the “Blind Side” because it is based on a true story and Sandra Bullock is the leading lady. Yet, “Precious” doesn’t have a famous leading lady, but the previews were so intense and so realistic that it pulled me in. “The Blind Side” and “Precious” are
This weeks reading concentrated largely on the discovery of the “new world” and how Europe came to understand the peoples from these newly discovered lands. Of course since this discovery was long before the advent of camera or telecommunications, artists were commissioned to interpret logs and accounts of those who experienced the Americas first hand. This made way for a great deal of artistic interpretation as the artist translated these descriptions in pictographic form. The three assigned readings each concentrated on an artist and their approach to depicting the Americas. Of course each had their own positive and negative aspects, but one thing that remained common between the three ( Stradando’s, de Bry’s, and Burgkmair’s) was the comparison
Burlesque is a form of art, which provides charming versions of the past through erotic parodies. However, throughout time the face of burlesque has changed due to economical, political and social factors. Today, we observe this art form in a modern context regarded as neoburlesque. Neoburlesque blends “comic eroticism with a diverse range of performance styles, from pantomime and clowning to ballet and performance art” (Mansbridge, 98) to create nostalgic engagement with the past. Many neo burlesque performers consider their work an art form that encourages self-confidence and self–awareness, where as the traditional performers viewed their work as a way to make ends meet. Through the research conducted and my personal experience at The
Art Has changed a lot over time. Art concepts such as the portrait still exist, however they are much more abstract than they have been in the past. Paintings like the Mona Lisa were great for their time and can be respected as a part of history. But new art of that style would likely bore people. Why might this be? One reason might be because we have seen it before. There is plenty of art of similar styles throughout history so why make more? Over time artist adjust and mix up their style of creating art, leading to new abstract art.
Sculpture in the Expanded Field discusses the sculpture had become through historical timeline. Category of sculpture, which classify the genre of genre by defining visible and invisible evidence. “a motley of effort the right to lay claim to whatever one might mean by the category of sculpture. Unless, that is, the category can be made to become almost infinitely malleable.” She said. After postwar in American, criticism frequently comes along with the category, which kneaded, stretched, and twisted in domestication of flexibility, which also can be stretched to include anything.
The Modern Art Era is a pretty large expanse of time. It ranges from the 1860’s to the 1960’s and presents itself in a variety of techniques and styles. I myself am a photographer so I thought it was fitting to focus on something I am interested in. I chose to research Imogen Cunningham and her contributions to the modern era as a female photographer. I mainly chose Imogen because a lot of her work reminded me of things that I want to attempt to create as well as things that I have photographed.
Art is important in the real world. Analyzing art can connect to everyday life because you can use the same skills and apply them to the real world. When we analyze art, we study, scrutinize, and investigate every aspect about it. In the real world we do the same, we study the things around us and translate what's going on. For example, a doctor has to study a medical illness , examine what to do, be able to articulate their idea, and formulate the outcome. Through art analysis we learn skills, which help us in the real world. These skills we can use on the job, at school, or when communicating to others. The study of art also enhances our awareness and ability to communicate, which is essential in the real world. Analyzing art is a way for

If we did not have global media and communication environment, terrorist ideology would not be as strong (Nacos, 2016). Terrorists would not need to do these drastic attacks to try and get coverage for their goals. They also wouldn’t keep pushing and seeing how much more then can do the next time. People would not be exposed to the media displaying horrifying images and causing psychological effects to not only adults but children. It would seem simple enough to not allow the media to cover such acts anymore, however the media plays a public-service role during terrorist situations (Nacos,
Human form for many years has been discussed and always been a common subject of visual art. The earliest known representations of the human body come from Europe and date to between 25,000 and 12,000 years ago.
Humanities is defined as the study and understanding (or interpretation) of “language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts…” (“What Are the Humanities?”). This definition can be used to analyze the African continent; the practices and various cultural aspects that can be found in America, in particular in the African American population; as well as the international relations, and history. Interviewees were asked different questions about Africa, for example, how has Africa influenced American culture and whether Africa is a source of intellectual education and inspiration, among other questions. Some of those interviewed had to admit how little is known about modern day Africa and its extensive history. Some stated they believed everything started with Africa, for example music and dances that are popular in the Western world stemmed from Africa, others thought Africa was an intellectual and inspirational desert, void of any current educational purpose.
