Based on my personal experience, I could not fully grasp the idea when I first hear about the non-profit program called Teach for America. I am originally from a country where one must spend four years in institution specially designed for prospect teachers. After four year education, a person finally qualifies to take notorious teaching certification exam. Not everyone with four year degree in teacher’s university passes the exam. And that is not the end either. After obtain a certification, trainee teacher must serve minimum one year before really start teach. Encountering the teacher’s university itself requires a high high school GPA and College entrance exam score. Since teacher is considered as a government worker, all the benefits comes from the government itself, therefore all tuition and even dormitory are free. After going through all the hardship, a person becomes a teacher and he or she is certified for rest of the life. I know specific step of each stage of becoming teacher because both of my parents were teachers and my aunts are currently working as a teacher. With this background, I simply cannot believe that people are only receiving a five weeks training before actually start teaching children. I would be surprise if it is five months. However, those who accepted as a Teach for America only receives an intensive five weeks training and that are all. It is very true that trainees are all from prestigious schools like Harvard, Yale and many more. The
