The Civil War was one of the most horrific confrontations that Americans have faced, killing close to 620,000 soldiers. Culture is a big influence in the way a society performs. The North and the South had different cultures from the beginning. They came from different economies, social structures, customs and political values. Each side had advantages and disadvantages. The cultures of each side helped them continue going forward during the Civil War. The main issue of accepting slavery became the core conflict between the two sides. My mission in this case study is to explain the different cultures of the North vs the South, and how their beliefs impacted the Civil War.

In time, all four states stayed with the Union just like Lincoln wanted them too. Although, there still remained people who cheered for the confederates in those states and fought for the Confederates. The Union also wanted to build and uphold a naval barrier around 3500 miles of the Confederates coastline as well as keep Europe from assisting the rebels. So Lincoln reevaluated the North’s war strategy and shifted it towards abolishing slavery. The Confederates did not have as many goals as the North. All they wanted to do was defend their ground and keep the North from terminating their military. Nonetheless, they both wanted to break the others’ will to fight.

The Consequences of the Civil War
Both sides fought for their beliefs in politics, thoughts on slavery and cultural way of life. “Southerners enjoyed the initial advantage of morale: The South was fighting to maintain its way of life, whereas the North was fighting to maintain a union” (internet 2). Thousands of men were lost, most dying from diseases. Some towns lost the population of all their young men, leaving behind children and spouses. Even though, so many men were sacrificed for the end to slavery, slaves established little politic, social or economic equality after the war in the United States which included voting rights.
